Why are magazines like this still a thing? Our freaking realtor gave everyone a gift subscription to this boring af magazine and they won't let me cancel it online. Don't give magazine subscriptions as gifts, people. Not everyone wants to read a multi-page spread about big hair mixed in with lists of the restaurants that paid to be recommended and a bunch of creepy urbanites standing in formation to advertise law firms and other bs. Isn't it enough that we bought a house? Now they have to saddle us with a glossy packet of waste paper once a month. And they'll probably do it again next year. Ugh. read more

D Magazine has always been one of my sources for entertainment and the social scene around Dallas since I moved here two years ago. I attend quite a few D-hosted events around town, so imagine my delight when, at a recent event, I struck up a conversation with the Audience Development Director who invited me to be a featured subscriber in an upcoming issue! On the day of my "photo shoot" I got a tour of their 21st floor offices in Downtown Dallas. Big open windows everywhere gave an amazing view of some Dallas landmarks (Old Red Museum, Reunion Tower, Margaret Hunt Hill bridge etc.). It was interesting to see a little bit of the process in how they lay out the magazine articles. Everyone I met was very friendly. So what do I LOVE about D Magazine! (Might be a shorter list to say what I do not like. #BlankList) Great articles - well written and witty, Great recommendations on events around town, restaurants, businesses, "The Best" series ... the list goes on and on! I have attended D-Magazine hosted events like restaurant openings (complimentary food and drink provided), Art events (complimentary tix to DIFF films), and looking forward to their NewComer, Welcome to Dallas Happy Hour at the gorgeous Marie Gabrielle Gardens on 5/17/17 (more complimentary food and drinks - review to come on that later!) My FAVE FAVORITE though ... The Best of Big D Party! What is it you ask? So in D Magazine (also their digital mag) you can always find articles on the best of Dallas - The best Dining, the best Bars, the best Shops, Doctors, Lawyers etc. ... you get the drift. Readers get to vote among multiple categories and and once a year (last year it was in August) they celebrate all these businesses with a PARTY!. There is a regular admission and a VIP admission option. I sprang for the VIP (think it was around $50 to $75?) and got a wonderful bag of goodies, including multiple gift certificates to some of the restaurants and entertainment businesses who were in attendance. Additionally there was unlimited food and drinks from all the "best of Big D"spots. Amazing venue, great music, photo booths, and just great people watching. If you live in Dallas and love being social, you should try to attend this event at least once. And grab a copy of D whenever you can, you will not be sorry. read more

I just received the July 2019 issue, the best real estate agents in dallas, and surprisingly, they are 99% Caucasian. I counted exactly FIVE non-caucasian faces in the entire issue, including the illustrations and advertisements. Really D magazine? In 2019, THAT is the best you can do? Its such a shame... I only have 2 issues left on my subscription, but I am truly sickened by your lack of inclusion... I am canceling my subscription immediately. read more

D Magazine presented Dr. Alhadef as "the best" dentist in October 2020. I called the magazine and I was told that only good reviews were taken into consideration. I sent emails, messages , but D magazine didn't respond. How can this dentist be called "the best dentist "? I would NEVER recommend Dr. Alhadef. One of the implants he did failed 3 months later ( he refused to give a refund). The other implant he did has never functioned properly. I was in pain and expressed my concerns multiple times. When I came for an appointment to have it adjusted because it was hitting my bottom tooth too hard, he wanted to charge me again ( I had already paid thousands of dollars for the tooth). I chose see another dentist. I've seen 3 other dentists and they all told me it was not done correctly and it has to be redone. You can see the metal post . It's like a cave where food gets stuck and it's very hard to get it out. Not only has it not functioned properly, but it also looks VERY UGLY. One of the other crowns he did was not placed correctly either and needs to be redone . He was NOT able to help me with my TMJ . I am still in a lot of pain. I would never recommend him as an orthodontist either. When he moved my teeth with braces, he didn't leave enough space for a regular size molar. One of my molars is twice smaller than my natural molars. It functions, but it looks very odd because it's tiny. The day he took my braces off I asked him about my retainers. He told his assistant I was asking too many questions and I needed another appointment . It made me feel like it was only about his monetary interests. To fix the mess he made I need about $10,000. I sent him the diagnosis and the ledgers from the dentists as he requested. Dr. Alhadef offered only $1000, if I take my review down. Unfortunately, $1000 is NOT enough to have this mess fixed. I hope no other person has to go through what I have been going through. Would you like to have a tooth like this and pay thousands of dollars for something that failed and never worked? read more

I bought an Amazon local coupon (like groupon) and promptly signed up because my partner likes this magazine and we just moved to Dallas so are hoping to get more familiar with surroundings etc, What a joke. After 35 days, no magazine and when I called the magazine they told me to call Amazon, which I did. The problem is with D magazine, they never confirmed my subscription and then when I tried to use my voucher code again, it wouldn't work, nor would they make it right. I found out they actually use a third party to make these offers and so they just put the blame on them. Beware because this particular deal comes out all the time in Groupon and Amazon local, but D magazine doesn't care about its readers obviously and feigns any kind of responsibility toward its subscriber services. No wonder print media is going into the toilet. The magazine is actually just a showcase for local realtors anyway. Sometimes doctors or insurance agents. This review is 6 months in the making. Last year I called in to buy a subscription to D Magazine. Gave them all my info promo code and cc#. Was told it would be 4-6 weeks for my first subscription. Fast forward 3 months to January 2016. It dawns on me when I get a new offer in the mail from them that I have not received my subscription? I call back. They show no evidence I placed an order. I tell them I had this special promo deal, and that I gave them my cc# etc. they say no, we don't show that but that was the deal at that time, but they are no longer offering that deal. I asked if my card was charged and she said no way it was charged if I didn't get my subscription. I asked why I didn't get my subscription, she said the lady I spoke to didn't process it correctly. She said I could redo it today but it would cost me more. I said well I have this offer I just got in the mail which is better than that offer she is trying to sell me. She said that isn't a valid offer. I said ma'am I'm reading the card verbatim and just got it today? She leaves to talk to her manager and comes back begrudged and says they will "allow me" to redeem this special offer one time? Lol ok... I place my order and give her my credit card. Fast forward to today. I have yet to receive any issues. I call them and they can now show both times I called in, they can verify the sales lady's notes that my card was charged but can't verify if they have or have not actually charged my card. The only thing they can tell me is that they have not processed my subscription properly again. When I ask why, I get zero response literally dead air and then finally a "I don't know". When I press her, I'm told they would only be able to redo it again and rerun my cc again at today's rate? I added but I already paid and you're admitting that you can't prove to me that you didn't charge my card? She said it was up to me to prove to them they did change my card? Your notes from your sales person says my card was charged! She said that's just the notes, doesn't mean they actually charged it. We went rounds and rounds and according to her the only way they can track a cc purchase is if I give them the actual card #, exp date and code that I used 3 months ago. I explained I was part of that national Target scam so I had to change my card number. When I explained that, she informed me there would be no way to tell if they charged that old card or not. She spoke with her supervisor twice and they mentioned they would have to dumpster dive into the archives and try to pull up the recording of my convo to hear if I gave them my cc#, write it down and then double check that number in their system? Only thing they could do today is recharge my cc again and sign me back up with today's deal which for my troubles they would give me last months subscription for free. Lol... I asked her if she would be satisfied with this solution considering what I've gone through and not knowing if I've already been charged and she said probably not, I understand your frustrations but there is nothing else we can do until we can hopefully pull your recording? I asked if I would hear back from them or just see a credit if they find out they actually miss-charged me? She said I would just see a credit... No call. Lovely lovely lovely service... If ordering from Amazon or McDonald's was this hard, both of those juggernauts would be out of business. read more

Consistently a good pulication with interesting stories and other content. Its evolution over the past few years has been disappointing, with significant portions of the magazine dedicated to the "best" whatever (lawyers, doctors, real estate agents) that are really just glorified advertisements. A loss of other great content that used to exist. I may change my rating. read more
