Mid-century modern refers to a design…read moreand architectural style that emerged in the mid-20th century, roughly from the 1930s to the 1960s. This design movement is characterized by a focus on clean lines, functionality, and a seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. This design is also characterized by bold colors and geometric patterns with atomic age influence. Mid-century modern design has had a lasting influence on various aspects of art, architecture, furniture, and interior design. Mid-century modern design continues to be popular and influential today, with many contemporary designers drawing inspiration from its principles. The timeless and versatile nature of mid-century modern aesthetics has made it an enduring and widely appreciated design style. There is a whole neighborhood I enjoy visiting in Miami dedicate to mid century modern design. Once you know the style of design it is easy to spot it. I discovered Previewmod after attending a Yelp event that was held a few doors down. As soon as I came in I was greeted a friendly hello. I loved exploring the small but carefully curated store. They had so many interesting furniture pieces, art, home decor, and even clothing and jewelry. My favorite piece was a marshmallow sofa by Herman Miller in bright red from 1956. It was selling for $3,895 which seems quite expensive but mid century modern is very popular today. Like in all things it is always best to do your research before buying. I did like that they had a lot of things I had never seen before anywhere else and would be very much at home on the set of I Love Lucy. As a fan of history and architecture, this store was a fun discovery.

It's a furniture design I love and know a little bit about, but being only slightly knowledgeable about such things is akin to have no knowledge at all, since it is so unique, somewhat specialized and only attracts a small but avid following. Since Previewmod is in the process of remodeling, I'm hesitant to rate it but some of the pieces they had on display were real gems but, of course, at gem prices such as a Charles Eames (circa mid 1960's) chair. Though listed at a price of $4,200 which one might at first blush consider high, it along with the condition of it actually represents a price I would consider to be somewhere around $600 below the prevailing retail market; hence, a pretty good deal. Beyond their store front, Previewmod also has one of the better such web sites I've seen. If you're really into furnishings of this type, and really only if you're into them, it's a pretty good store in comparison to other stores I've visited that specialize in similar such furnishings.

In business for over a decade, owner Jeffrey Chaffi has a knack for selecting the kind of items people actually still want to buy. This is the main Decades store located off of Federal Highway but they also have a second store about a mile away south of Wilton Drive on NE 4th Ave. This store has 4,000 feet of consigned furniture, accessories, and art. As I walked around I couldn't help but notice how many items had hold or sold signs on them. Prices seemed very reasonable and things were moving fast. I only came in to browse but a mermaid Art Deco style lamp sang her siren song to me and next thing I know I had her in hand. I tried to bargain for a discount but apparently she just swam in. I guess if things linger there may be a further markdown but I doubt if anything here lasts that long. Now I am excited to check out their other location. There are so many beautiful and unique items here and they are always turning over making this such a fun store to explore. Just be prepared to buy on the spot if you fall in love with something as I did.

We were drawn to the nicely lite large windows off the road. My friend is a designer and we were both intrigued. So we decided to make a quick stop to check it out. From the moment we walked in, we were blown away. The space, the furniture, the greenery. The design consultant who greeted us and was such a pleasure to interact with, Johnny, gave us a tour of the space while he filled us in on the details of the store. The story is originally from Naples, and they recently expanded to open their first showroom on the east coast. So happy they ventured close to us! To my surprise I was informed that they focused on high-end outdoor furniture. In my life have I ever seen such beautiful patio furniture. He explained that they carried some of the best brands from Brown Jordan to Tuucci umbrellas to Vondom, and a few interior design companies that are now doing outdoor like Palechek and Bernhardt. Also, I happy to learn of a company called Pollywood that specialize in patio furniture made of 100% recycled milk jugs. Imagine yourself at home on your deck, backyard, poolside, or high rise balcony with beautiful outdoor furniture! What an awesome way to create a gorgeous outdoor space! What beautiful memories you can create with your friends and families with an awesome outdoor sanctuary! If you are in the market for outdoor patio furniture or even interior decor pieces (their artificial plants are amazing too!). KB Patio & Home Decor is an ABSOLUTE MUST!!

They are located in a street mall, which will be destroyed, and in the same location will be two five-story buildings (the City of Oakland Park is approving the construction). Finally, too little space packed with too many things that should be thrown in the garbage. I wish I could give no stars!
