Grandson really learned how to bat after T-Ball. Improved after each session. We should have started sooner. They know their stuff!!!

Woodmen of the World Camp Tejas

Woodmen of the World Camp Tejas

(1 review)

I never got to go to BAND CAMP like the cool kids - but I did get to go to insurance camp every…read moreyear through our Woodsmen of the World insurance policies.... sounds kind of lame but it was actually a lot of fun and helped mold me into the incredible rugged outdoors girl that I am! A group of kids who had nothing in common other then had the same insurance company loaded up on an old school bus, and headed off for a 2 hour ride to Brownwood Texas! By the time we came back home we were all best friends! The first time going to camp was scary because I didnt know what to expect and I was homesick the minute the bus pulled away, but my older sister was with me so I found some comfort in that till we got to camp and learned we would be in different cabins! It didnt take long to make friends, and all the camp leaders were really nice, and they kept us so busy with activities you really didnt have time to be homesick or even think about anything other then what you were doing! The camp ground was beautiful, the lake was amazing, the cabins were really nice, and the kitchen and dinning hall were great, the food was awesome, and they fed us really good! They had a Nurse on staff also who would come around check us kids for bug bites or poison ivy and she was like the sweetest old Grandma you could ever wish for! Back then there wasnt nothing that a little "monkeys blood" (iodine) and calamine lotion couldnt heal! We got up early every morning and had a flag raising ceremony, said the Pledge, sang the Woodsmen of the World song, then went to breakfast, then started our activities. We had arts and crafts, archery lessons, rifle range shooting, swimming, canoeing, we watched movies, played basketball, threw horseshoes, roasted marshmallows around a camp fire, sang song, and just had FUN! By bedtime everyone was so tired we slept like babies! At the end of the week we had an award ceremony for the people who ranked highest in the different activities. Every year I won 1st place in rifle shooting and archery and it was the ongoing joke among the staff that I could "shoot a fly off a cows butt from 100 yards away" I just seemed to have a talent for shooting, but I was raised shooting BB and pellet guns so it came natural to me! The last night of camp they would have a dance and every year Eric Grimes asked me to the dance! He was my long time boyfriend who I met at camp, and every summer we spent as much time as possible together at camp and always looked forward to the dance! It was fun because it was like a real date, but it was sad too because it meant we were going back home and wouldnt see each other every day! Oh young love!!! p.s. Hey Eric I still have that gold locket you gave me for my 9th Birthday! :-)
