Dr Hoffman is the best. After about 5 yrs... ok maybe longer... of not going to the dentist, my teeth needed some extra care. Dr Hoffman took his time and went through the entire treatment plan, and made sure I knew exactly what was going on every step of the way. One of the reasons I hadn't been to the dentist, is the absolutely horrible sound of the drill. Knowing that, one of the headphones wasn't working, so he actually moved us rooms so I could find something to watch on TV. Thank goodness they had some awesome MMA on! Anyways, the staff, the assistant and Dr Hoffman are amazing. I wish I could give them 6 stars. Will be recommending to everyone.

So I decided to go and get my teeth professionally whitened for the first time! I was a little nervous but couldn't have had a better experience. The bleaching system is called Zoom! It's a series of 3-4 15 minute sessions. Your comfort level is assessed between each session based on your sensitivity to the bleach. I was able to get through 3 comfortably and the sensitivity after was very manageable. They just ask you to avoid coffee, red wine and any dark liquids or foods for 24 hours. The results are supposed to last up to 4 months. My teeth have never been whiter! I will definitely be back for another treatment in the future. The office is in a great location in La Jolla and all the staff I interacted with were extremely friendly.

Nothing but nice things to say about this office. They do quality dental work and have a great staff/front office. I had a cleaning done with their hygienist Taylor and three fillings done by Dr. Hoffman. Both Taylor and Dr. Hoffman were kind and informative. They really took the time to explain my treatment plan and overall oral health. The fillings match my teeth perfectly both in form and color. They also did a really good job getting my bite dialed-in. Great experience and espresso!

BEWARE. This office practices some very shady tactics with billing and insurance. Fair warning,…read morecheck all your claims because even if you don't technically pay out of pocket, it'll eat into your maximum coverage and benefits. I came for a free invisalign consultation after seeing an ad for "Align Your Teeth" day last year. It promised a free consultation and free scan and I was in the process of screening offices for treatment. At first this seemed okay, but I wasn't feeling their "vibe" even before going in. They sent me way too many emails and texts before going into my appointment to the point where it was suffocating. Walking in, the office was well maintained but had a sort of gimmicky vibe that I can't place my finger on. The appointment was fine and I started to rethink my prior opinion. I was considering even switching to them for my regular dental cleanings/treatment as the staff was friendly. Although I will note that the assistant/hygenist who was helping me during the consultation was strangely more involved with planning my treatment than the actual dentist. No offense to her because she was very kind, but I think it was weird that she was trying to diagnose me which she wasn't qualified to do, while the dentist seemed a little disinterested. Can't blame her since it was a "free" consultation, but something to note. Weeks later, I go to check my dental claims and noticed that this office billed me for 2 services equalling to $650 which was outrageous. The first claim was for a panoramic xray that I thought was included in the consultation. Upon calling the office, I was told "the consulation is free, but we bill the insurance for whatever we can". I told her, lucky for me I haven't gotten an xray done in the last 60 months or else I would have had to pay out of pocket. I told her that I was never notified that this would be an additional charge and she told me it was my fault for not asking and essentially trying to make me feel like I was stupid/crazy. Even though it happened to be covered this time, this is an issue of highly unethical behavior. I wouldn't trust them with my health if they're like this on the billing side of things just because I didn't proceed with treatment. The second charge according to the charge code was for diagnostic study models. The insurance rejected it and it ended up falling under my name and could have potentially made me delinquent to a creditor or collector. If it had gone through and billed to ortho like they intended, it would have eaten 30% of my lifetime orthodontia coverage, which is even worse. The person I spoke with was very dismissive with me in her tone and language until she realized that I had conference called her with my insurance on the line and she quickly changed her tune. All of a sudden she was more than happy to remove the second charge from my account and offer to send me my xrays. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR CLAIMS. I was actually impressed that they hadn't tried to upsell me for treatments like I've experienced at many other dental offices, but now I realize that it's because they try to fly under the radar and charge insurances directly. Just because they're charging a corporation and not an individual doesn't make it ethically or morally ok to go behind a patient's back. I am so glad I went with my gut and decided to go with another provider. This office is super shady and untrustworthy. They may seem sickly sweet & nice while they are trying to reel you in, but that can very quickly turn when they know that you're on to their facade of corrupt ethical practices. Moral of the story, shop around for the provider you're most comfortable with and don't get pressured by anyone!!!

Before finding her, I had consultations with a couple other new dentists and always left feeling like they didn't fully understand how much anxiety I had surrounding dental work, especially with the nerve issues in my face. A lot of the conversations felt very worst-case-scenario and honestly just made me more afraid. I was even told during some of these consultations that I needed 10+ restorations, only to see Dr. Winter and find out the number I actually needed was about half of that. I can't say enough how much I appreciate how conservative she is with treatment, especially because avoiding unnecessary dental work is really important to me with my nerve issues. She listens, takes my concerns seriously, and somehow manages to be reassuring without ever making me feel dismissed. She has truly been such a breath of fresh air. Also, if you're someone who is terrified of numbing shots like I am, they are AMAZING at this. I barely feel a thing when they numb me, which I never thought I'd be able to say about going to the dentist lol. I used to prioritize finding a dentist close to our house, and now we drive almost an hour to see Dr. Winter and I would honestly drive even farther if I needed to. That alone probably says everything. I originally found her for regular dental work, not cosmetic dentistry, but after seeing her work (and noticing how gorgeous everyone's teeth are in her office ), she now has me intrigued about possibly doing veneers someday too. So grateful for Dr. Winter and her entire team. Everyone has been incredibly sweet, patient, + accommodating, and for someone who has spent most of my life genuinely afraid of the dentist, that means so much.

I used to be super fearful of the dentist because of trauma from when I was a child; I wouldn't even be able to sit still while getting my teeth cleaned because I would be so nervous of anything even touching my teeth! The office is stunning and the staff is awesome. I recently got my cleaning done by Mandy and she did such a great job. My teeth feel so nice and clean and it didn't hurt at all. I had stains on my teeth from drinking so much green tea and matcha and she was able to remove all the stains without having to do any bleaching. I'm still in awe of how white and stain-free my teeth are. She did this quick and painless procedure called "sand-blasting" to help get rid of the stains. Her assistant Jessica was really nice and gentle as well. I highly recommend coming here if you are looking for a new dental home!

After the trauma, I had a big black triangle near my front teeth and incisors. Every periodontist from Dr. Pasquinelli in SF to a famous one in NYC said it's impossible to fix the papilla. It's one of the hardest thing to do as a periodontist. Then I found Dr. Nordland's website and flew in for a consultation. He said he could do it. I was skeptical at first. Some of the reviews were daunting and made me doubt Dr. Nordland. I went on my gut and did the surgery. Right after the surgery, it looked like it worked, but it slowly started retracting. I was so angry that I even wrote an email saying how dissatisfied I was with the surgery after 3 months. Little did I know the healing is a 2 yr process. After 2 yrs, my dentist said my gums looks really good and it's amazing what the surgery did. What Dr. Norland did was place a graft and over time that graft will grow towards the teeth. I'm here to apologize to Dr. Nordland and hoping this review will help others find him. The office and staff are awesome!
