On Friday, January 11th, my shift shaft broke on my car and required a tow from my residence to a car dealership near my house. I reached out to D & L Towing Services to perform the services of my vehicle being towed. D & L Towing Services picked up my vehicle on Saturday, January 12th from my house and dropped it off at the dealership. On Monday morning, January 14th the dealership's mechanic pulled the car out, which was parked directly against a large snow pile on the parking lot that was plowed from the several inches of snow that fell on Friday night. When the mechanic pulled the vehicle out of the parking spot, the front bumper was torn off due to the impact of the vehicle being removed from the tow truck and slammed into the snow plow. Attached are the pictures of the vehicle leaving my house in good/fair condition with the bumper perfectly intact, as well as the pictures of the bumper torn off at the dealership after being handled by D & L Towing Services. In initial conversations with D & L Towing Services Manager, Chris Hollenberg; he took accountability for the damage done and verbally indicated that they would get the vehicle fixed and was taking ownership of addressing the damage his driver did to my vehicle. Chris Hollenberg asked me to get a quote to access the damage. After I received a quote from the body shop, I shared the quote with Chris Hollenberg and he felt it was too high, which is where the conversations between us began to turn. Chris Hollenberg asked that I bring the vehicle to D & L Towing Services' shop (45 minutes away) as he felt one of their mechanics could fix it, which I did on Tuesday, January 15th after having the shift shaft repaired. The mechanic at D & L Towing Services reviewed the damage with me and stated that a body shop would need to handle the damage, and he would speak to Chris Hollenberg when he got back into the office on how he wanted to handle the situation. Chris Hollenberg spoke to his team and stated there was no damage underneath the bumper as a result of scraping the parking lot ground when unloading the vehicle and that there was no way the damage was caused by his team, but the damage was done when the driver at D & L Towing Services unloaded the vehicle right into the large snow plow. Chris Hollenberg reached out to me on Wednesday, January 23rd claiming that the damage to the vehicle was not due to their driver, and stated they would not fix the bumper as he previously committed to doing. In an attempt to reach out to D & L Towing Services' owner, there was no follow up. In several attempts in reaching out to Chris Hollenberg after his decision, there was no follow up. In summary, I would never recommend D & L Towing Services to anybody. D & L Towing Services lacks customer service and does not take accountability on a problem that was created by their employees. Good luck to anyone that decides to have D & L Towing Services tow your vehicle, because if there is one issue from the time they pick up your vehicle to the time they drop it off, the issue becomes your problem. read more

We were involved in an accident, and the police called D & L which towed our truck and a rented tow dolly (U-haul) to their yard. Our insurance company wanted the damaged vehicles brought to another location on Monday since the accident occurred on a Saturday and the collision center was closed. Instead of keeping the tow dolly with the truck, D & L KEPT the dolly and basically no one knew where it was. It was finally located a month later. D & L charged us $1770 in storage costs even though it was their fault for not following our instructions. Not once did they tell us they were going to do this, and not once did they call or let anyone know they had the tow dolly. I tried to get them to work with me on the cost, and so did U-haul, but they refused. This is the worst case of extortion I have ever had the misfortune to have to deal with. I should only have been charged 2-3 days. The fact they kept it against instructions is entirely their fault, but we had no recourse because U-haul needed to get the tow dolly to asses it for damages, so they paid the extortion cost and have charged it to us. read more

For some reason they have 2 Yelp pages. I want to make sure to spread the word about these fools. I give them 1 star because negative stars is not an option. Words can't describe how incompetent they are. If they show up to tow your car, send them away immediately and just wait another hour for the next truck. They were dispatched by my roadside assistance insurance to pick up my BMW M6 which had a flat tire. Driver Tony proceeded to try to drive the car onto the flat bed and scratched the bejeezus out of both the front and rear bumpers, as well as the left tail pipes. He plowed into the pavement multiple times. After unsuccessfully trying to load the car twice, he left my car with thousands of dollars worth of damage and just high-tailed it out of there. He tried blaming me that my cars suspension settings must have been set really low (lies because you cannot change the suspension height on my car) and that he had moved some Lamborghini or something without a problem (I suspect also a lie). As he was leaving, he shouted something about another truck being dispatched and on the way (another lie because I had to call my insurance to dispatch another truck). I ended up using Big Boys Towing. When they came, there were no problems loading the car, and it never even came closer than 3 inches of hitting the pavement unlike the way the other moron crashed into it. I have a video of the incident and they better pay for new front and rear bumpers, along with new tail pipes. Ridiculous. read more

One of these trucks parked in my work parking lot for 10 minutes, blocking my customers from parking in the lot. He was not even there for one of our patrons. He was there for the business next door. The driver thought it was funny when he finally came out to leave with his truck. He laughed as he watched my customers trying to get into our lot and park to do business in my store. D & L Rideout has some of the nicest, most accommodating customer service representatives I've ever had to talk to. After my vehicle died while driving it, I called for roadside assistance through my insurance provider. They assigned D & L to my claim. D & L called me every step of the way to explain what was going on and where they were at. The accommodated a last minute drop off change and honored my request to call me when they picked up my car and when they dropped it off. The only reason I give 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the pick up time. They were assigned my claim at 6:15 and my car didn't get picked up until 9. However, they did call me an explain that they received a lot of accident claims right before me that evening. Overall, I'd recommend them! read more

2013 started out with a tow! A slow tow! OK, it is New Year's day and the repair facility is closed. I can understand taking it to the tow yard until the next day when the designated repair shop is open. It is now 2 days later, and the car is still sitting at the tow shop. Thinking that the car was towed the next day to the car repair shop, I called to inquire on the car status. They told me they did not have this vehicle. WHAT?? The owner told me this is common practice with some towing companies. They take a normal $150 tow and pump it up to $700-$800 by the time they add storage fees and special extraction fees. I did not know the name of the towing company so I called USAA (our insurance carrier who arranged the tow) to get that info and move things along. If I had not called I do not know how long the car would have sat. I called back the repair shop and told them that the car was going to be towed in today and gave him the name of the tow, D&L. He laughed, and said, " Yup, they are the ones". He told me he will let me know what the tow charge is when it comes in. We have tow coverage, but it infuriates me when companies inflate charges. I am angry that they have left the car sit 2 days. That is 2 days of unneccessary delays in repair time along with the inconvience of not having the car. This company has two poor Google reviews, and now one poor Yelp review. How low can a tow go? read more

I've used D & L Towing in the past and will probably only use them from here on out when I need something towed in the area. I had a vehicle breakdown after midnight and every place I called was very very rude to me on the phone and gave me an estimated 3+ hour wait time. But D&L had the only dispatcher that actually seemed like she wanted to help me. Super super friendly and kind. I was stuck in a lane with heavy traffic due to an accident, was trying to get over, but tow truck driver started screaming profanities at me and frightened me almost to the point of getting me into an accident. His behavior was unacceptable. I realize he has a dangerous job, but he could have handled it much better instead of exhibiting such tremendous anger and hostility. I used to work for them. I know the tow rates. I also know the contract. Joe, the operations manager, started to scream profanities at me when I went to go pick up my belongings from the truck from an accident when my girlfriend was driving it. This included my $600 GPS unit, a $300 cb radio, $1100 computer, and about $400 in clothes. Was overcharging for the tow bill and told me I could not get my stuff out until the tow bill was paid. Joe also was the owner of MoJos towing in Kirkwood. He is a crook and I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy to them. The people in their call center have horrible attitudes. their driver kept my car keys that had my house keys attached to them. when called a thousand times for them to give them back. They refuse to give them back and tried to blame me the customer for them loosing or keeping my keys. This was after they towed my car after a car accident to my home. DON'T USE THESE MORONS. Truck arrived within the time window given. Driver was polite and professional. Roadside assistance gave the them the Dobbs address it was to be towed to. The driver called en route to confirm the Dobbs location. Called Dobbs the next morning and they said the car wasn't there. I spoke with a women (twice) at D & L that was literally laughing because their systems were down and could not locate my vehicle. That's great you think it's funny you find my car. Turns out they took it to the wrong shop. It went to a Firestone. They wouldn't even go get it to make it right. They told me to go through my roadside assistance to "avoid being charged." Bad news for this company. There are many honest, legitimate tow companies, but this is not one of them. They gouged many victims of the New Years tornado in Sunset Hills. Everyone I talked to was charged a minimum of $830 and up to $980 to have cars towed 5.4 miles from parking lots on S. Lindbergh, to their Valley Park storage yard. They would not accept responsibility for the damage they caused to my vehicle when towing. The driver of the vehicle even told me he was not told about the small rock my car skidded into. My vehicle was pulled over the rock without lifting. Tow trucks have winches. They also have insurance just like I do. The driver of the vehicle was very respectful but the owner wasn't. So I was forced in to using their service as they are contracted to tow and impound vehicles for St. Louis County Police. I do NOT and would not EVER recommend their service. The driver dispatched was highly unprofessional (he decided to rev my engine quite a few times while it was still in park and I was sitting right behind him in the police cruiser) and he could NOT drive. When you are driving a flat bed, or any tow truck for that matter, it should be understood that you NEED extra room for maneuvering your truck. Instead, with my car "secured" on the back of his flat bed, he decided his best route was to go up over a ridiculously high curb and smash the back of his truck busting up the concrete. Curb closest to the street but right by the first pump to your left as you pull on to the lot) Even the attendant came out to snap pictures of the damage to their lot. I had the misfortune of needing a tow because the power steering went out on my car. I had no way to get home so called Allstate (I have roadside assistance through them), who called D&L. When the truck pulled into my office parking lot, I saw that it was parked on the other side of the lot from my car, so I walked from the warm lobby into the cold to tell the driver where I was parked. He ignored me while I stood by the side of the car trying to get his attention. Finally I opened the passenger door and he said, "Did I call you? I'm doing paperwork. Wait til I call you." I was shocked at his attitude, but walked back to stand in the lobby. When he drove the truck to the front of the building, I walked to my car and got in it. He came over and said, "What was that? Why did you drive your car over here?" I didn't know what he meant. He continued, "You were over there (pointing to where he had first parked the truck) and flashed your lights at me." I told him that the power steering was out and I couldn't have driven the car. Instead of apologizing, he said, "I guess I might have made a mistake." Might have?! Obviously he did, and his arrogance and unprofessional behavior added to an already stressful evening. He was ready to leave me there in the parking lot when I told him I had no way home. He said he couldn't drive me home. I said I live 1/2 mile from the Firestone and he could drop me there. He didn't say another word until we got on the highway. It was obvious to me that he was going to miss the exit, so I told him so, and he said not to worry, he had the address in his GPS. He spoke to me as if I was a child, saying that it is controlled by satellite. Duh! I KNOW where I live. Stop acting like a robot and listen to the customer in your car! Turns out Allstate had given him the wrong address (not his fault) but if he had listened to me earlier, we wouldn't have gone so far out of our way (definitely his fault). When he called his dispatch to get the correct address, he said, "This woman is freaking out." Excuse me, but you ignored me when I told you where to turn. Should I let you drive all over St. Louis without saying something? When we finally got to the correct destination he said I didn't have to sign any papers, even though the Allstate rep told me I should sign. If I get a bill, there will be hell to pay. All in all a terrible experience. Maybe the driver was having a bad day, but nothing justifies his rude behavior, not to mention the total LACK of customer service he showed to someone in an already stressful situation. This place is extremely expensive for towing and completely unprofessional!! The guy that runs this lot is just flat out rude. Not only did he scream and curse at me and my little sister over a mishap that we were not present for nor involved in but he threatened to not release the car until i shut the **** up all because I asked him to stop screaming and cursing at my 17 year old sister (who by then was just sitting there crying) for something she was not present nor AWARE of this mishap between one of the drivers and her father the previous day. I was in the far right lane, as far right as I could go, on the Murdoch Cutoff at Laclede Station Rd, a very busy intersection at a red light. All of a sudden I see flashing red and blue lights behind me, a siren and loud horn honking. Not know if it was fire or police I was forced to drive into that busy intersection at a red light potentially causing me to get hit! I was so frightening by the repeated honking and siren I felt I had no choice. Once the vehicle got in front of me I saw that it was a D&L tow truck, NOT a fire or police vehicle. He went about two blocks ahead to the intersection of Murdoch Cutoff and Big Bend. At that point the driver turned off his lights and siren. Since I was headed the same direction I remained behind the truck who was now traveling at a regular speed, no lights, siren or horn. The driver pulled down the same residential street I was headed, Selma at the intersection of Big Bend. Once again no lights or sirens. Once I reached my destination I decided to make a call to this company and their "dispatcher" told me they have a right to do what this driver did "if there is an emergency." If there really was an emergency occurring the driver was sure not in a hurry to get to it once they clearing that busy intersection. I was extremely frightened to be put into such a dangerous situation that could have caused me to get hit. I understand this is a dangerous business, towing, but there is no reason to cause a second emergency in order to reach another so called "emergency." read more
