I recently purchased an RV with the intention of full-time RV living. The people I purchased it…read morefrom paid to have it checked out here to make sure everything was working and in order before I bought it. They paid a pretty penny to have these people walk me through all the systems in the RV too. Unfortunately, they didn't really know much about my RV. The man showed me what was readily available, but couldn't show me everything. He claimed some things were broken or missing that were not. He also was not aware that the switch for the generator was, in fact, inside. He insisted I had to go outside to turn it on. He was nice enough to drive it home for me so I didn't have to find a ride back for my car. They do have some items to purchase for RVs at this location, but you had better know exactly what you are looking for, because they won't have a clue. There are definitely more knowledgeable places in Helena, Montana if you need something for your RV.

We rented a 2002 Sunseeker motor home from Montana RV Center. This was a first time RV experience…read morefor us. We made the assumption that renting from an RV Center would be a wise choice thinking the unit would be fully maintained and road worthy. That was a mistake. Once on the road within the first 90 minutes we had our first tire blowout. Unfortunately the tire shops were closed and no one answered the phones for Montana RV. We had to find someone to open up for us to put on the spare - 10 miles out of our way. It would have been helpful to have a jack, tire wrench, and instructions included with the RV. As we proceeded to Yellowstone on narrow roads the sway of the vehicle and the looseness of the steering made for adventurous travels. We arrived 4 hours late in a very dirty RV. The cleanliness policy of the Montana RV Center appears to be "clean it as best you can," which means you are at the mercy of the previous renter. We weren't so fortunate. We spent a lot of time with Clorox wipes and cleaning spray going over the interior of the RV. Not exactly how we were hoping to start our Yellowstone vacation. The linens were too dubious to consider using so we bagged everything and strapped it to the roof. The next leg of our trip was to a family reunion in the center of Montana. We had our second tire blowout. This time both tires of the same duel went out. We heard lots of noise and felt lots of motion but this was consistent with the ride so we didn't realize there was a problem until someone flagged us down. We made it to a pullout and abandoned the vehicle to the side of the road. Fortunately for us we were traveling with another family and were able to ride with them to the family reunion 40 miles away. The blowout did cause us to be hours late as well as loss of use of the vehicle, our clothes and groceries for 24 hours. It got to be a joke as our kids spent their time compiling a list of things wrong with the motorhome. They got up to 43 on the list by the time we were done. Some were hazardous others just an annoyance. Here's a sample from that list. 1. No jack or tire wrench 2. No windshield washer fluid. 3. The ladder to the roof was seriously damaged and bent. 4. Kitchen sink handle comes off in your hand because it was not attached to the faucet. 5. One large cargo door not accessible to us because the handle was broken. 6. Most of the cargo door latches that keep it in the open position were broken off. 7. The bathroom door would not stay closed. 8. The shower door slammed around at every corner. 9. A roof vent wouldn't open or close without pushing and holding the handle to make contact. 10. The power windows worked intermittently. The list goes on. . . . In my mind Montana RV Center is that only in name. They don't appear to have any type of checklist or maintenance regime in place at all other than a quick visual. We rented at the end of July. The license tabs had expired at the end of June. Just that fact added stress to the trip knowing the vehicle wasn't current with the State of Montana. If you think you are saving money by using Montana RV Center than a national company - think again. You will have inferior equipment that you will need to clean and maintain along with the frustration of undependable equipment. Your family's safety isn't worth the risk. The tires were replaced for us at no charge, but we were compensated for less than one night rental as the second tire replacement took almost 24 hours. We discussed compensation for the lost use and costs incurred, agreed on a minimal discount that did not make us happy at all. When we finished loading and returned to pick up the check Jim had deducted $250 from the agreed upon reimbursement in fees he had previously agreed to waive. Jim, the person we rented from claimed that he has never received complaints like ours. I'm not going to speculate on this. . .but I will warn you. Don't let what happened to us happen to you. Stay away from Montana RV Center in Helena, Montana.
