I've visited here twice, both times ordering the spiral croissants, their so called and playfully named "escargot", one with chocolate and pistachio, the other with raisins. I loved both. The croissants, while perfectly flaky, had a soft, moist interior where the filling nestled. The bottom was sticky with syrup. Of the two, my favorite was the pistachio-filled escargot, with chocolate chips that were neither too rich nor too dark, just right. If only I could be there again!

Improving the lamination with a Pan Suisse, basic but satisfying, Du Pain et des Idées best bites come from an elongated baton dubbed Sacristain that crunches before giving way to layers of Butter, Sugar and delicate Pastry Cream.

All these were delicious - and they heated up the cheese pastry for me, which was a perfect more savory but very slightly sweet start to this decadent meal. I do my best to order and communicate in French, and I appreciated that the lady helping me spoke back to me in French as well, and was patient with my poor language skills. I was extremely surprised and very appreciative that she actually gifted me an extra slice of tart aux pommes!! I didn't expect that and I felt very welcomed by such a exchange. I ended bringing that slice all the way home to NYC with me where I shared it with my partner. He usually doesn't like sweets like this, but said this one was a really good balance of sweet and tart. However, compared to any pastries from home, everything at Pains et Saveurs was amazing! I had the best croissants and other pastries. I stopped by most of the mornings and grabbed a bag of different things to try out while walking around Paris. I bookmarked this place after just finding it here on Yelp so I can stop in again the next time I'm in town!
