First year of club is coming to an end. We have had a great experience here. Micha and Christine…read moreare coaching and have done well. The season started with tryouts and all parents (from what we noticed) received one on one time with the coaching staff. I assume so we could all get to know the staff and start to open lines of communication. Micha also shared his expectations for this team so that all parents could know what we were getting our families into. Back office stuff was smooth. Brittany was on top of payments and merch that we asked for. Calendars, uniforms and group chats were all communicated without prompting by us. Interpersonal dynamics between girls was positive and pleasant. Coaching and goal setting was set from the beginning, as a parent I appreciated this as our goals aligned. During practice and tournaments the coaching staff was always professional and coached the players with development in mind. U14 is almost done. Stay tuned next spring for the U15 review as the best reviews have follow ups.

Small neighborhood park serves its purpose well…read more We got a new basketball and excited to test it out the park. There are a good amount of trees to absorb the noise pollution from the traffic on Knott Avenue. Small picnic area is available for a little lunch rendez vous. There is a play area for children - jungle gym, swings. There is also a nice grassy area for you dog lovers and great for t-ball or soccer practice. Basketball court is available for a quick game of horse, one-on-one or larger team play. And there are nets in the basket, for all your nothing-but-net shots. It's always good to get some fresh air and spend time at the park.

This is the most kind and understanding owner around. He teaches all the meta in jiu jitsu while still being a good person. The gym feels like home and everyone in it is extremely kind and accommodating for people of all level. Oh, and the level of instruction is top notch. Edwin has a great explanation of every question or idea you have. I came back to the gym despite moving further away. You will definitely LEARN jiu jitsu while also being in a very good environment. The environment part is also extremely hard to find, especially in combat sports.

I like that Edwin spends a bit of extra time giving detailed explanations and answering questions, explaining WHY you do or don't do something and not just how to do it. He's great at breaking down complex movements into digestible pieces and suggesting tweaks to improve your technique. He tailors advice for every student depending on many things - different body types, personal goals, current injuries, whatever you can think of. I feel like I have made quicker progress at this gym compared to other places because of this. It's a small gym at this point in time; a lot of the classes feel almost like private sessions. It's a hidden gem! Definitely drop by if you're in the area, whether you've been doing bjj your whole life or if you're interested in trying out for the first time! I felt comfortable to roll during the trial class as a small woman. The people at The Grappling Lab make sure all students feel safe. Also offers best pricing in the area :)
