I had a sweet tooth and thought their cheesecake concept was so cool! I love the idea of being able to have a scoop of cheesecake with a variety of mix ins. There are so many good flavors to choose from, but I kept it pretty simple and tried the cookie dough and the chocolate. Both were amazing. I loved the graham cracker crust on the bottom and the cheesecake is so light and fluffy, and the chocolate was very decadent and rich. Excited to try more flavors! Terrible customer service from the cook he/she was very rude. I paid for extra cheese and the cook got upset when I asked for more. I even stated I will pay for the charge. When I got home I received the incorrect cheesesteak sandwich, I paid for the one with that works and I received the regular one. Originally, we were going for the restaurant next door but due to unexpected closure we ended up coming here. CYOC: create your own cheesecake and/or cheesesteak. Yes, you read that right, cheesecake and cheesesteak in one restaurant. Their menu is pretty straightforward, you have the option of assembling your own cheesecake and/or picking an entree item. Their cheesecake threw me off at first as it looked like cold stone's set up with ice cream flavors on display (here it was cheesecake), a topping display and a counter to mix everything together. I really liked the concept and they even let you sample flavors! I ultimately went with pineapple upside down cake without toppings and they coated the bottom of the cup with graham cracker crumbs. For my entree I decided on a cheesesteak deluxe. They do have other options such as chicken sandwiches, burgers, loaded fries and more if cheesesteaks aren't for you. Let me start off by saying I love deconstructed desserts. It allows me to get the perfect ratio for every bite. I think the thing that impressed me the most about the cheesecake was that the upside pineapple flavor actually had bits of pineapple in it. The cheesesteak deluxe was very standard with bell peppers, onions, mushrooms and was what I would've expected. We ended up with the basics-cheesesteak and chicken and cheese sandwiches and they were the best cheesesteak sandwiches I've ever had! The bread melts in your mouth and the streak melts right after it! The peppers and mushrooms are cooked to perfection by their super-friendly cook. I got a chicken wrap made it a meal, for 10 dollars which was ok not bad but you get a pretty good amount of food. Fries are really good with either the restaurants special seasoning. This is an interesting concept that works fairly well. Can't say that the combination of the two adds anything, individually each is good but not great. There are various options for the cheesesteak. From toppings like onions, peppers, mushrooms to the type of cheeses to various delivery mechanism (bun, tortilla, chips, fries). Went with a more traditional cheesesteak with onions. The roll isn't anything like what you get in Philly. They also add their "special seasoned sauce" which seemed sort of like a garlic aoili. The sauce really didn't fit, next time I would avoid getting it. If you are looking for traditional Philly cheesesteak you will be disappointed but for a north Chicago suburb it does a sufficient job. Also got an order of the cheddar ranch fries. The fries themselves were standard fare. The cheese sauce was more nacho cheese like than cheddar. Now these are far from the best cheese fries I have ever had but I am a sucker for them every time. The cheesecake was a little more interesting. They give free samples and would recommend taking advantage before getting a scoop. Got the carrot cake version. Flavor was good, cream cheese flavor came through pretty clear. There were some pieces of cake in there but not a lot. The texture reminded me more of frosting than anything else. I've never been to Philly, but I'm guessing this is the closest thing we are going to find to the real thing in the Chicago area. Everything was fantastic! CYOC, you can thank Jess A for her raving review, because that's what got me and my husband in here to try the delicious cheesesteaks and cheesecake desserts. This is such a great place. It's in Waukegan and I wouldn't call it the greatest area, but not the worst either, and the food, service, and prices were awesome. It's no joke that the owner Josh is there almost always and is probably cooking your food for you, and he is so friendly and is going to get your business with his confidence in his product- that's why everyone is so willing to let you sample. One taste and you are sold. The cheesesteaks were simply delicious. I'm salivating now just thinking about it. The fries were perfect, hot, fresh, crisp on the outside, tender on the inside- just like I like my men. Haha The house seasoning was good, but we also plan on trying it without it.
