ATTENTION: due to an equipment failure they are serving out of the bar two doors down (there are signs on their doors to point you there). With that being said, per the bartender there, they will not have cheesecake until they are back in their original building (time unknown). I think the rest of their menu is still available but I'd say call or order on doordash before making the trip. read more

CYOC - Chicken Deluxe with eggs on top. - Cheesesteaks Near Me - Waukegan, Illinois

CYOC is a great place to get cheap and good food in waukegan. Love this place, very inviting staff.

I had a sweet tooth and thought their cheesecake concept was so cool! I love the idea of being able to have a scoop of cheesecake with a variety of mix ins. There are so many good flavors to choose from, but I kept it pretty simple and tried the cookie dough and the chocolate. Both were amazing. I loved the graham cracker crust on the bottom and the cheesecake is so light and fluffy, and the chocolate was very decadent and rich. Excited to try more flavors! Highly recommend if you're in the area. read more

Food was made fresh to order. The service was fast and friendly. The ambience could use an update but I'll definitely be visiting again! Everything was amazing! read more

Their sandwiches and cheesecake are absolutely amazing! The customer service is always good and the food does not disappoint. I've never sat inside to eat - but take it to go and it's always still delicious. read more

I ordered the Philly cheesesteak works. It was so good. I normally get the Philly as a salad for lunch but I needed something with a little more substance for dinner. It did not disappoint. The cheesecake choices were good. Unfortunately they did not have pineapple upside down which is my absolute favorite. I went with carrot cake. Very good. Definitely recommend. read more

Been here a few times. One of the best Philly cheese steak around the area! I ordered Philly Steak Deluxe with habanero jack cheese and side of fries. Real juicy steak the fries were fresh. Good service. Will return and make sure to take pictures before I eat it!!! read more

Excellent Cheesesteaks! Not a restaurant I'd necessarily go out of my way to eat. Perhaps if I'm craving another cheesesteak, I will! To start, the service was good. The cashier was accommodating, generally helpful, and friendly throughout the experience as I was ordering. The wait for the food wasn't long, being around 7-10 minutes, and the cheesesteaks? Delicious! I've gotten the Deluxe Chicken Cheesesteak, and to describe the flavors would be juicy and decadent. While adding raw onions added, some snap the peppers to the mushrooms, and sautéed onions had the sandwich so scrumptious. To reiterate, while being a remarkable establishment, the parking is a bit odd, and the food has been priced relatively. I still wouldn't mind returning, but there are other options in the area I'd go towards first. However, if I want to have a good cheesesteak that's a step above Subway, I'm going to CYOC read more

Salty and not consistent. The workers are semi-pleasant. The cheesecake is disgusting. I'm not sure what their identity is but it's nasty and about the worst idea of old cheesecake sitting out. The fries seemed freezer burnt and although the restaurant was "clean" it had an underlying muggy dirty feeling (floors, walls, ceilings). read more

Terrible customer service from the cook he/she was very rude. I paid for extra cheese and the cook got upset when I asked for more. I even stated I will pay for the charge. When I got home I received the incorrect cheesesteak sandwich, I paid for the one with that works and I received the regular one. The food was extremely salted, which I think was purposely done by the cook. I was not able to eat my food due to the cook purposely over seasoning my food. I'm 6 months pregnant and I have to watch my sodium intake. I'm really upset, I feel like my order was purposely over salted and I was giving the incorrect sandwich that cost less then what I paid for. All because the cook was upset I asked for more cheese on my nachos that I was willing to pay for. read more

Great sandwiches, and their amount of options is truly great. They cheesecake is good too, and I'm not a huge fan of sweets. Hot tip: ask for the sauce on the side. read more

Cheesecake is amazing! A tad expensive but worth it. Sandwiches are pretty good too. Overall A#

This place was recommended to us by locals. Maybe an Astor grow on you. My sandwich was so salty it was barely edible and very greasy. My son sandwich had peppers and onions on it which helped the flavor a lot. The sandwiches had scant meat and cheese on them, nothing like I would expect a cheesesteak sandwich to be. The temperature inside of the restaurant was very warm and stuffy. Not a place I would go back to. read more

This place legit surprised me in the best possible way. We walked in and were immediately greeted and offered free samples of their house made cheesecake (delicious, btw). We ordered and got our food within like 5 minutes, which was awesome because it is made to order. Price was very reasonable too. Solid. Food. I got the Philly cheesesteak deluxe sandwich with provolone cheese (comes with green peppers, onions, mushrooms). The meat was perfectly seasoned and felt like an actual cheesesteak. Bun was lightly toasted as well. My boyfriend got the buffalo chicken sub and it was also very good. The fries are made to order so they came out super hot, which is a major bonus. I would absolutely come back and tell a friend- nice place to get a cheap meal not in a super busy location. read more

I've been coming here for about 3 years. This is a great little fast food joint that doesn't get enough credit. Here is all you need to know: Awesome sandwiches Awesome cheesecake Clean restaurant Friendly staff As I walked in the door on my most recent visit (yesterday) I was greeted with "Hello would you like a free sample of cheesecake?" Of course I said yes. I had the caramel, and it was incredible! For my sandwich I ordered "The Works Philly Steak" with provolone, and it was one of the best steak sandwiches I've had. It was loaded with fresh veggies, and I love the rolls they use. This place is great. It isn't always convenient for me, but it is worth the drive! read more

Stop whatever you are doing and just start driving to cyoc. I would give anything for them to be closer to my house because once you find out the deliciousness of an ice cream scooper full of your favorite cheesecake flavor OR have the tenacity to try to finish their BANANA SPLIT MADE OF CHEESECAKE SCOOPS.... you're hooked. Now just because I brought up dessert first doesn't mean the food isn't fire cause it's all amazing too. I get a Philly cheesesteak with mushrooms and the fries with the fry sauce. Don't forget the fry sauce! Now the best part, the people who work here. They are all solid gold in my book! Always friendly and always giving little things to try. Ps- I also want to add that the cheesecake is extremely smooth and not too thick like regular cheesecake. Plus you can mix any cheesecake flavor with any topping and they put the graham cracker crumble at the bottom. Ugh now I'm drooling. read more

Having lived in the area for 3 months, I'm ashamed to say I haven't checked out many of the restaurants. Originally, we were going for the restaurant next door but due to unexpected closure we ended up coming here. CYOC: create your own cheesecake and/or cheesesteak. Yes, you read that right, cheesecake and cheesesteak in one restaurant. Their menu is pretty straightforward, you have the option of assembling your own cheesecake and/or picking an entree item. Their cheesecake threw me off at first as it looked like cold stone's set up with ice cream flavors on display (here it was cheesecake), a topping display and a counter to mix everything together. I really liked the concept and they even let you sample flavors! I ultimately went with pineapple upside down cake without toppings and they coated the bottom of the cup with graham cracker crumbs. For my entree I decided on a cheesesteak deluxe. They do have other options such as chicken sandwiches, burgers, loaded fries and more if cheesesteaks aren't for you. Let me start off by saying I love deconstructed desserts. It allows me to get the perfect ratio for every bite. I think the thing that impressed me the most about the cheesecake was that the upside pineapple flavor actually had bits of pineapple in it. The cheesesteak deluxe was very standard with bell peppers, onions, mushrooms and was what I would've expected. Overall: They know what they do well and I appreciate that's what they have on the menu. The service was good, food was good and the wait wasn't long. While the counter was spotless, their bathroom could've been a little cleaner but I guess you need a little grunge/grease somewhere to know that you're getting a good cheesesteak. read more

I absolutely LOVE THIS PLACE! Best cheesesteak I have had to date no questions asked!

It's nice to be greeted as you enter a restaurant. We felt so welcome. The Philly cheese sandwiches are consistently delicious.

First let me start by saying I am NOT a yelp'er. I signed up for yelp for the purpose of writing this review. Now, a little back story about me. I am an east coast girl who grew up on cheesesteaks! I met my husband who was in the military at the time while back east and I followed him here to his hometown (Chicago) about 8 years ago. Since then, having gone through 3 pregnancies there were MANY times I craved a cheesesteak. Sometimes to the point of tears (yeah, pregnancy makes ya crazy!) because I knew I could never get that craving satisifed. I've searched high and low for 8 years sampling just about every imposter "cheesesteak" this place had to offer. Luckily for me (and my whole family) I stumbled upon this little gem! First let me start by saying this company prides themselves on customer service! They strive to make sure that each guest has a wonderful experience. They focus on cleanliness, friendliness and over-all experience in addition to serving up fresh, wonderful "slap yo momma" kinda food! So, let me move on to that... If you crave thinly sliced steak, that's perfectly seasoned topped with tons of ooey gooey cheesey goodness then let me tell ya, this is THE place in the Chicagoland area! The steak is always juicy and tender, the cheese is always gooey and the fries always hot and crispy and perfectly seasoned! That's right everything is made FRESH after you order it is always hot and super delicious! I think my husband I may agree that a cheesesteak with Josh's secret recipe mayo only comes second to sex.... YES, it's THAT good! Now, let's move on to the cheeseCAKE! There's tons of different flavors, some of our favorites being the Red Velvet (come early if you want some or it may be gone!), Carrot Cake, Tres Leches, and the Lemon. Now, not only are these flavors AMAZING on their own but then if you choose you can add toppings/ mix-in's. Think Maggie Moo's or Coldstone Creamery, but with reamy delicious cheesecake instead of ice cream. It's scooped out with an ice cream scooper instead of sliced and it is to DIE for. You can even get a "Cheescake Split"! I am already planning how many cheescakes I'm going to be ordering for Thanksgiving and of course I'll be ordering a separate Red Velvet cheesecake to hide in the back of the fridge for when all our company leaves! =D So if you ever feel like stuffing yourself so full that you can barely move and you want to experience absolute food heaven then PLEASE give this place a try. I garauntee you will NOT regret it! read more

I've never been to Philly, but I'm guessing this is the closest thing we are going to find to the real thing in the Chicago area. Everything was fantastic! CYOC, you can thank Jess A for her raving review, because that's what got me and my husband in here to try the delicious cheesesteaks and cheesecake desserts. This is such a great place. It's in Waukegan and I wouldn't call it the greatest area, but not the worst either, and the food, service, and prices were awesome. It's no joke that the owner Josh is there almost always and is probably cooking your food for you, and he is so friendly and is going to get your business with his confidence in his product- that's why everyone is so willing to let you sample. One taste and you are sold. The cheesesteaks were simply delicious. I'm salivating now just thinking about it. The fries were perfect, hot, fresh, crisp on the outside, tender on the inside- just like I like my men. Haha The house seasoning was good, but we also plan on trying it without it. When we went back up to order our dessert- creamy cheesecake with ingredients blended in and scooped into a cup, with additional toppings if you'd like, just like at a froyo place- Josh gave us our shared strawberry cheesecake complimentary since it was our first time.(Thank you, Josh!) It is an act that will pay off since the taste and texture was phenomenal and it guarantees our return- and our word of mouth. You may not want to drive out of your way to try CYOC, although we actually do, but it is without a doubt some great food, at a great price with even greater service. The dining room is extremely low key and casual, it's nothing fancy, but the food will surely win you over. read more

I found this place on Restaurant.com when browsing new restaurants in the area. As someone who grew up half their life in Philly, I was excited to see a new Cheesesteak in the area. Unfortunately, I am about 35 minutes away from this place but after eating here for the first time a week or so ago, I have been back three times since then. Let's just say this place is unbelievably good. As someone who knows a true cheesesteak, CYOC passes my cheesesteak inspection and that is not easy to do. Their food is to die for. And, I'm dead serious about that. I am actually ready to drive up there today to get a cheesesteak. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Prices are excellent as well. About $6 for a cheesesteak and another $2 for a big side of seasoned french fries and a drink. Their fries are amazing as well. Oh, and so is the cheesecake. I don't think there is anything on their menu that I don't absolutely love. Even their nachos is amazing! Not only is the food and pricing excellent but the service is always friendly and welcoming. This place is absolutely exceptional and I highly recommend CYOC to anyone within the general area. If you are a half hour out like me, I would still recommend you take the drive to experience this for yourself. You will not be disappointed. If I could, I would give this place a 6th star. read more

Torn on how many starts to give this place.... Food first: Fries- hot and fresh, made to order yummie. The sauce is a house special, but I'm pretty darn sure it's a ketchup mayo combo, which don't get me wrong is delish! Philly-loved the mayo sauce on the bun, cheese was decent but needed more melt, and the meat was a tad tough...all around good but the picture I saw made me think it was gonna be really great (the one where it is open faced and fabulous looking). My pic shows a bit of a different story... Drink-fountain coke products, free refills Service: Grilling/line cook guy was very nice, but the counter girl was not so great. We got there about 30 minutes before close and they were already mopping, so we felt awkward...hey, can you drop the mop and make my food? Wait until you are closed to mop.... When I asked if there were any onion or mushrooms for the Philly the girl said "nope, just cheese" Keep in mind I ordered hurriedly after I felt bad about coming in "late" at 8:30....well after I placed the order I read the menu more clearly and there most certainly is an onion /mushroom/ green pepper option, its called the Philly Deluxe. Thanks for nothing chic. Would maybe return for the cheesecake which I did sample and was amazing.... read more

This is an interesting concept that works fairly well. Can't say that the combination of the two adds anything, individually each is good but not great. There are various options for the cheesesteak. From toppings like onions, peppers, mushrooms to the type of cheeses to various delivery mechanism (bun, tortilla, chips, fries). Went with a more traditional cheesesteak with onions. The roll isn't anything like what you get in Philly. They also add their "special seasoned sauce" which seemed sort of like a garlic aoili. The sauce really didn't fit, next time I would avoid getting it. If you are looking for traditional Philly cheesesteak you will be disappointed but for a north Chicago suburb it does a sufficient job. Also got an order of the cheddar ranch fries. The fries themselves were standard fare. The cheese sauce was more nacho cheese like than cheddar. Now these are far from the best cheese fries I have ever had but I am a sucker for them every time. The cheesecake was a little more interesting. They give free samples and would recommend taking advantage before getting a scoop. Got the carrot cake version. Flavor was good, cream cheese flavor came through pretty clear. There were some pieces of cake in there but not a lot. The texture reminded me more of frosting than anything else. Again, far from traditional cheesecake but I would recommend getting a scoop. This is not a destination place at all. Food is good, service was good. It is different than most of the other fast food options which is nice to work in. read more

This the most delicious, delightful, tasteful, flavorful, meaty, creative place hands down!

What a find this is! I started working down the street from here almost a year ago and have almost gone here a few times before. I regret all of those times u didn't go here. The staff couldn't be more friendly. They let my family take our time trying to decide what to eat, let us try different flavors of their cheesecake, and recommended they're favorites. We ended up with the basics-cheesesteak and chicken and cheese sandwiches and they were the best cheesesteak sandwiches I've ever had! The bread melts in your mouth and the streak melts right after it! The peppers and mushrooms are cooked to perfection by their super-friendly cook. The fries have a bit of zip to them-salt and a hint of what tasted like Cajun spices. We didn't even get to the cheesecake-that be next time. If you're looking for fast, friendly service and a great tasting sandwich, you will not be disappointed by going here! read more
