I had a sweet tooth and thought their cheesecake concept was so cool! I love the idea of being able to have a scoop of cheesecake with a variety of mix ins. There are so many good flavors to choose from, but I kept it pretty simple and tried the cookie dough and the chocolate. Both were amazing. I loved the graham cracker crust on the bottom and the cheesecake is so light and fluffy, and the chocolate was very decadent and rich. Excited to try more flavors! Terrible customer service from the cook he/she was very rude. I paid for extra cheese and the cook got upset when I asked for more. I even stated I will pay for the charge. When I got home I received the incorrect cheesesteak sandwich, I paid for the one with that works and I received the regular one. The food was extremely salted, which I think was purposely done by the cook. I was not able to eat my food due to the cook purposely over seasoning my food. I'm 6 months pregnant and I have to watch my sodium intake. I got the Philly cheesesteak deluxe sandwich with provolone cheese (comes with green peppers, onions, mushrooms). The meat was perfectly seasoned and felt like an actual cheesesteak. Bun was lightly toasted as well. My boyfriend got the buffalo chicken sub and it was also very good. The fries are made to order so they came out super hot, which is a major bonus. Having lived in the area for 3 months, I'm ashamed to say I haven't checked out many of the restaurants. Originally, we were going for the restaurant next door but due to unexpected closure we ended up coming here. CYOC: create your own cheesecake and/or cheesesteak. Yes, you read that right, cheesecake and cheesesteak in one restaurant. Their menu is pretty straightforward, you have the option of assembling your own cheesecake and/or picking an entree item. Their cheesecake threw me off at first as it looked like cold stone's set up with ice cream flavors on display (here it was cheesecake), a topping display and a counter to mix everything together. I really liked the concept and they even let you sample flavors! I ultimately went with pineapple upside down cake without toppings and they coated the bottom of the cup with graham cracker crumbs. For my entree I decided on a cheesesteak deluxe. They do have other options such as chicken sandwiches, burgers, loaded fries and more if cheesesteaks aren't for you. Let me start off by saying I love deconstructed desserts. It allows me to get the perfect ratio for every bite. I think the thing that impressed me the most about the cheesecake was that the upside pineapple flavor actually had bits of pineapple in it. The cheesesteak deluxe was very standard with bell peppers, onions, mushrooms and was what I would've expected. Overall: They know what they do well and I appreciate that's what they have on the menu. The service was good, food was good and the wait wasn't long. If you crave thinly sliced steak, that's perfectly seasoned topped with tons of ooey gooey cheesey goodness then let me tell ya, this is THE place in the Chicagoland area! Think Maggie Moo's or Coldstone Creamery, but with reamy delicious cheesecake instead of ice cream. It's scooped out with an ice cream scooper instead of sliced and it is to DIE for. You can even get a "Cheescake Split"! I am already planning how many cheescakes I'm going to be ordering for Thanksgiving and of course I'll be ordering a separate Red Velvet cheesecake to hide in the back of the fridge for when all our company leaves! =D So if you ever feel like stuffing yourself so full that you can barely move and you want to experience absolute food heaven then PLEASE give this place a try. I've never been to Philly, but I'm guessing this is the closest thing we are going to find to the real thing in the Chicago area. Everything was fantastic! CYOC, you can thank Jess A for her raving review, because that's what got me and my husband in here to try the delicious cheesesteaks and cheesecake desserts. This is such a great place. It's in Waukegan and I wouldn't call it the greatest area, but not the worst either, and the food, service, and prices were awesome. It's no joke that the owner Josh is there almost always and is probably cooking your food for you, and he is so friendly and is going to get your business with his confidence in his product- that's why everyone is so willing to let you sample. One taste and you are sold. The cheesesteaks were simply delicious. I'm salivating now just thinking about it. The fries were perfect, hot, fresh, crisp on the outside, tender on the inside- just like I like my men. Haha The house seasoning was good, but we also plan on trying it without it. When we went back up to order our dessert- creamy cheesecake with ingredients blended in and scooped into a cup, with additional toppings if you'd like, just like at a froyo place- Josh gave us our shared strawberry cheesecake complimentary since it was our first time.(Thank you, Josh!) It is an act that will pay off since the taste and texture was phenomenal and it guarantees our return- and our word of mouth. What a find this is! I started working down the street from here almost a year ago and have almost gone here a few times before. I regret all of those times u didn't go here. The staff couldn't be more friendly. They let my family take our time trying to decide what to eat, let us try different flavors of their cheesecake, and recommended they're favorites. We ended up with the basics-cheesesteak and chicken and cheese sandwiches and they were the best cheesesteak sandwiches I've ever had! The bread melts in your mouth and the streak melts right after it! The peppers and mushrooms are cooked to perfection by their super-friendly cook. The fries have a bit of zip to them-salt and a hint of what tasted like Cajun spices. We didn't even get to the cheesecake-that be next time. I found this place on Restaurant.com when browsing new restaurants in the area. As someone who grew up half their life in Philly, I was excited to see a new Cheesesteak in the area. Unfortunately, I am about 35 minutes away from this place but after eating here for the first time a week or so ago, I have been back three times since then. Let's just say this place is unbelievably good. As someone who knows a true cheesesteak, CYOC passes my cheesesteak inspection and that is not easy to do. Their food is to die for. And, I'm dead serious about that. I am actually ready to drive up there today to get a cheesesteak. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Prices are excellent as well. About $6 for a cheesesteak and another $2 for a big side of seasoned french fries and a drink. Their fries are amazing as well. Oh, and so is the cheesecake. I don't think there is anything on their menu that I don't absolutely love. Even their nachos is amazing! Not only is the food and pricing excellent but the service is always friendly and welcoming. This place is absolutely exceptional and I highly recommend CYOC to anyone within the general area. If you are a half hour out like me, I would still recommend you take the drive to experience this for yourself. You will not be disappointed. The sauce is a house special, but I'm pretty darn sure it's a ketchup mayo combo, which don't get me wrong is delish! Philly-loved the mayo sauce on the bun, cheese was decent but needed more melt, and the meat was a tad tough...all around good but the picture I saw made me think it was gonna be really great (the one where it is open faced and fabulous looking). My pic shows a bit of a different story... Drink-fountain coke products, free refills Service: Grilling/line cook guy was very nice, but the counter girl was not so great. We got there about 30 minutes before close and they were already mopping, so we felt awkward...hey, can you drop the mop and make my food? Wait until you are closed to mop.... When I asked if there were any onion or mushrooms for the Philly the girl said "nope, just cheese" Keep in mind I ordered hurriedly after I felt bad about coming in "late" at 8:30....well after I placed the order I read the menu more clearly and there most certainly is an onion /mushroom/ green pepper option, its called the Philly Deluxe. This is an interesting concept that works fairly well. Can't say that the combination of the two adds anything, individually each is good but not great. There are various options for the cheesesteak. From toppings like onions, peppers, mushrooms to the type of cheeses to various delivery mechanism (bun, tortilla, chips, fries). Went with a more traditional cheesesteak with onions. The roll isn't anything like what you get in Philly. They also add their "special seasoned sauce" which seemed sort of like a garlic aoili. The sauce really didn't fit, next time I would avoid getting it. If you are looking for traditional Philly cheesesteak you will be disappointed but for a north Chicago suburb it does a sufficient job. Also got an order of the cheddar ranch fries. The fries themselves were standard fare. The cheese sauce was more nacho cheese like than cheddar. Now these are far from the best cheese fries I have ever had but I am a sucker for them every time. The cheesecake was a little more interesting. They give free samples and would recommend taking advantage before getting a scoop. Got the carrot cake version. Flavor was good, cream cheese flavor came through pretty clear. There were some pieces of cake in there but not a lot. The texture reminded me more of frosting than anything else.
