A male staff…read moremember Chris Yates has repeatedly crossed boundaries with female members in ways that are deeply inappropriate and predatory. His behavior is not isolated or accidental; it reflects a troubling pattern that makes the space feel unsafe and uncomfortable. Even more disturbing is the gym's response: management has been informed and has taken no meaningful action. Instead of protecting its members, the leadership appears more interested in protecting its own image. This is not only negligent but sends a clear message that the safety and well-being of members--especially women--are not a priority. If you're considering joining this gym, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere. There are many fitness centers that take member safety seriously and foster an atmosphere of respect and accountability. This is not one of them. Until real changes are made and accountability is enforced, I cannot recommend this gym to anyone. Sad they have to ask yelp to take down the review instead of letting people be aware of how certain employees are. Still no action.

When I tried to speak with a young lady for help, I asked her to wait a moment while I pulled up my gym card. At that point, she turned away from me during the interaction and began ignoring me. I found this behavior extremely unprofessional. I asked for her name, but she refused to provide it. I then asked employee Ron for assistance, and although he was nice; he also refused to give me her name and told me I would need to speak with a manager on Monday. I informed him that I would be doing so. Her behavior was unprofessional, and I hope that members are treated better in the future.

I'm extremely unsatisfied with Planet Fitness. For a place that brands itself as a "Judgment Free…read moreZone," the experience feels anything but. The rules are enforced in a way that comes off judgmental, nitpicky, and unnecessary. Being told you can't even have a gym bag with you in a gym is completely ridiculous. This is a fitness facility -- people bring belts, wraps, straps, towels, water, supplements, and personal items. Expecting members to run back and forth to lockers or leave their belongings unattended just to satisfy an arbitrary rule is inconvenient and impractical. What's most frustrating is the contradiction. Planet Fitness claims to welcome everyone, yet constantly polices members over minor things that have nothing to do with safety or respect. Instead of feeling comfortable and focused on working out, you're made to feel watched and corrected. If you're serious about training or value common sense, this may not be the gym for you. The "Judgment Free Zone" slogan feels more like marketing than reality.

Back in Dec 2012, my girlfriend and I were both thinking "We really need to start doing something…read moreabout working out." We had become aware of BFit b/c I had been doing serious web research into gyms in the area. We had already been to check out Oak Park Tennis Club, and I had previously been a member at FFC, and we were considering some other things like an independent spinning class. We were trying to find something that would be not only affordable, but effective at keeping us on track. We decided to walk by BFit on one of our walks, to see what it's like. When we walk by they were finishing a class, so we didn't want to walk in necessarily, just peek at the services they offered on the door, but one of the staff there saw us looking and invited us in. That was the beginning of a wonderful 8 months of Personal Training with Darryl. We only went once a week, which is too little to actually lose a lot of weight without doing anything else, but we still went from huffin-and-puffin after no-more than 20 situps at the start, to working through 2-3 sets of 70 situps, not to mention all the squats, squat kicks, TRX, and crazy-things-Darryl-would-invent-on-the-fly-that-we-never-could-have-conceived-of-on-our-own that we did. Darryl was always very positive, cheerful, inventive, motivating, real, and funny. As Darryl will tell you, "he's got jokes" :). Darryl regularly pushed our limits, but also respected them - if i mentioned that something didn't feel right, he changed up the exercise, and could always take into account my bad knees. We moved away from Oak Park back in April, we have kept going to Darryl for over 4 months, but eventually, distance and scheduling has just gotten to be too much of a hassle for my girlfriend and me (not Darryl's fault, he was always super accomodating with our schedules). And so, alas, we are left to find something else nearer to us that's as good. In addition to Darryl, with whom we built a strong relationship, all the staff at BFit is awesome. My girlfriend took a couple group classes as well, and it is just such a wonderfully friendly place to truly workout, and get your butt kicked. We credit Darryl with kickstarting our fitness and being a wonderful human being in the process. We'll miss you Darryl! - T&G

I've been attending the Saturday morning bootcamp - 7:45AM for $9 cash - and I see and feel a difference in my body and my spirit. They encourage you to push yourself while being respectful of your limitations and instructing you to listen to what your body is telling you. There are ALL age ranges, ALL fitness levels, ALL body types and EVERYONE is made to feel welcome and part of the party. It's inclusive, diverse and fun! And this is a serious bootcamp, so you will sweat and work hard and get your work-out money's worth, so make sure to bring a little towel and a bottle of water (or you can buy one there). I really like that you don't have to make a long-term commitment with a membership and can pay by the class. They do have package-deals that offer savings, but I haven't taken advantage of them. If there's any drawback it would be that the space is a bit smallish, so the bootcamp experience may seem a little chaotic to someone more accustomed to Bally's, YMCA or Fitness Formula Club, but Lynette and her team make the space work. I have been a member at all of the places mentioned above and I will say that BFit is by far and away the most fun, most challenging, most positive work out I've ever had. Honestly, this is a fantastic place with great people and positive energy! If you want to get beach-body ready or just need to move a bit more and want to have fun while you're doing it, this is the place to go!

    Wright's Traditional Kung Fu

    Wright's Traditional Kung Fu

    (6 reviews)

Wright's Traditional Kung Fu and Kickboxing is THE place for all of your workout needs…read more Below I will try to explain why I think that, and more importantly why you should exercise properly - with a dedicated, patient and experienced teacher- 'Shifu' Timothy Wright. When modern society was invented it also changed the basic model for stress, and its usefulness. 40,000 years ago, the "fight or flight" response which is an innate part of every human being, and resides within our autonomic nervous system - was used to escape dangerous situations. For example by fleeing from a lion, we would escape it - thereby effectively solving the stressor. In today's world we can take flight from let's say a social issue, by avoiding something or someone. This will lessen our level of anxiety and its physical symptoms - but it will not solve the problem, in fact it may make it worse. Today's society is just too complicated and inter-tangled with rules which make the release of stress and its closure hard if not impossible. Stress, and its proper release, is just one of many reasons why you should exercise, and do it properly. Master Tim (Apache) Wright's classes will make you a better human being, and even more importantly your evolutionary propensities shall be resolved. If you're not convinced yet, you should definitely keep on reading. Since our lives are busier then ever - we deal with more stress today than ever before. Because of today's society's specific rules of conduct which we must follow in order to be considered "normal", we are unable to properly release the pent up tension. This hectic modern sedentary lifestyle is one of the causes of this distress, as are biopsychosocial reasons. Chronic stressors are associated with measurable hormonal and cardiac changes, as are genetic (inherited) predisposition, biological malfunctioning, environmental stressors, conditioning and social learning, and even the excepted medical model are all partially to blame. Since stress is the prevalent trigger of most non-genetic related psyche issues, psychological disorders run amok among our society. It almost seems like there is really no "normal" people left in the world today. We add fuel to the fire with improper diet and lack of exercise. Therein lays your answer. Exercise is definitely relaxing and extremely healthy. It increases the body's supply of endorphins, or opioid peptides, chemicals that mimic the effects of opium-based drugs such as morphine--they elevate mood and reduce pain. They also affect memory, learning, blood pressure, appetite, and sexual activity. In reality, proper exercise does even more than that. It increases your stamina, strength, reflexes, improves memory and concentration. Your heart gets stronger, and beats more rhythmically, bed cholesterol disappears, and you become more self-aware and confident. Proper exercise can even help with addictions, such as tobacco or alcohol, as it is physically impossible to use them while concurrently doing Martial Arts and or Kickboxing training. As with everything in life - you get out of it, precisely what you put into it. I am not going to lie to you however; it takes countless hours of practice, and extremely hard work. As a result it strengthens your personality, as well as your physical prowess. You have to make a commitment and stick to it, no matter the obstacles. Finally, adaptation is organism's reaction to CHANGE in the Environment. I emphasized word change, because I feel that is the core of the issue. That very ability is extremely important to our evolution and survival. Our bodies alert us to both bad and good change. They give us distress in time of duress, and pleasure in tranquility. Without the ability to adapt to changes in the surrounding environment, none of our most basic everyday activities would be possible. May I suggest than - that you adapt, and contact Master 'Apache' (Timothy Wright) at Wright"s Kung Fu. He is a true champion, and he will help you adapt to our amazing, ever changing world, while altering you in ways you cannot possibly even fathom. And that is why I think, Master Tim and Wright's Traditional Kung Fu can help you on your road to success. Who am I? My name is Victor and I am a student of Master Tim "Apache" Wright.
