My husband and I had such a great experience at this store, thanks to Ronan. He was welcoming, attentive, genuinely helpful and just cool to talk to. He listened to what I was looking for and made thoughtful, well-informed suggestions. He took the time to answer my questions without pressuring me to buy anything I didn't want /need. You could tell he rides, but he didn't act like a "know-it-all" which I really appreciated. Went in with my daughter's bike, thinking they might carry bicycle parts like the name, Cycle Gear, implies. Received a terse, "no," from the employee. A customer then made a very rude joke about the bike, which my husband was carrying and several employees laughed along with the customer. It was not friendly banter. Idk if I'm writing a review for the store or the store rep that I been dealing with for a few years. Every time I go into the store and Rascals there I get the best of the best. If I need help finding something or if I'm there just to pick something up I get exactly what I need. My whole family gets treated the same and feels the same about their interactions with Rascal. i have a lot of respect for what Cycle Gear does. They manage to combine the purchasing power of a national chain, the selection of an Internet business, and employ local people with solid knowledge. Cycle gear is a great place for a novice rider to gear up. They have inexpensive house brands, which are OK quality, and can guide you to good choices for your style of riding. If you have deep pockets, they have brands such as Shoei, Arai, and Dianese. They can match the price and selection of any Internet business, and if they don't have the size or color that you want, they can order it in for you. I've bought a couple of helmets from Chris, he really knows helmets and is very patient. I've got a hard to fit head, and we went through a lot of options before we arrived at (I hope) my dream helmet. Pro tip: don't buy a helmet on the Internet, you need to try it on. You can waste a lot of time and money Internet purchasing helmets. They have a good selection of tires, lubricants, dirt bike bits (sprockets, plugs). They have all of the popular intercom systems. They don't play dopey juvenile music, so you don't feel like you're in a high school lounge. I see lots of women customers in there, which also says they're doing it right. As a fairly new rider, overall I've been pretty happy with my experiences at Cycle Gear. Staff are usually pretty helpful, and didn't talk down to me when I was new and asking "stupid" questions. My reason for leaving 4 stars instead of 5 is they often don't have many options in store for my size as I'm a bit shorter of a rider. Sometimes they only will have one jacket, and rarely a shoe size that fits. I know space is limited but it would be nice to have at least a couple of options to try on without having to order special and see if it then works out. Otherwise pretty happy. read more

Bought a phone mount (techgripper) and it destroyed my phone. Huge issue with the mounts is that the vibrations will destroy the gyroscope in the cameras of droids/iPhone. One google search and you'll find hundreds of people with the same issues on basically every model of phone mount. I unfortunately didn't do any research on the mounts prior to purchasing went ahead and installed it and rolled to a restaurant. Held the phone in place fine but I soon realized that the rear camera was completely destroyed. I left a review on their website about it and the company hits your review with the auto reply about how they are so sorry blah blah ... after about 3 emails back n forth over the course of 2.5 weeks they informed me I could return the mount if I'm not satisfied.... Idk bout you all but I'm pretty sure you can return just about anything u buy from a store if it's within 30-90 days. They pretend to care but you're just a few bucks to this guy Brian complete douche imho. 1000-1200$ IPhone destroyed by a product they sell and this loser offers a refund of my phone mount which is industry standard for any product that's sold. Hope Brian's pillow stays warm no matter how many times he flips it for the rest of life. read more

I was given a late 60s Honda CT90 to rebuild as my first project and have been going to Cycle Gear for certain parts, tools and fluids for a few weeks now. Other than this particular location, time, and day being like Black Friday at Macy's for men, this was a really good experience. (No, I have no idea why it was so slammed for a Friday other than it was nice and sunny and it is the season to start riding again). I had one young gentleman help me with my awesome jacket and reflective vest, and an older gentleman assist me with helmet sizing and options. I managed to pick out gloves and a $180 uClear Bluetooth helmet music/phone system on my very own. I just want to toss out there that that uClear is the most awesome thing ever. With my full face helmet it sounds like freaking Dolby surround for music and phone calls are clear as using a regular phone. After about 10 helmets I settled on a very unique Seven Zero Seven matte black. Never seen one like it and it fits me just perfectly. The fiberglass construction makes it just as light as the much more expensive Shoeis. Was $230 regularly, but it happened to be on sale. I think I walked out spending about $700, but it was well worth it. read more

Portland's motorcycle community isn't as big as they bay area's and it reflects it in Cycle Gear. It's a smaller store, with not as deep in selection of products. The pro of this store is that it tries to cover all aspects of motorcycles. the con, they aren't able to cover everything. they didn't have my air filter, no Arai helmets, i couldn't even get a pair of gloves for myself. I do appreciate that they try to have everything, it's just unfortunate that they didn't have the stuff i needed. read more

A huge thank you to the team at Cycle Gear and to Falcon specifically. I was on a one week motorcycle trip and my friend picked up a screw in his front tire just outside of Portland. It was late Sunday and we found Cycle Gear open. We called, found they had the exact tire we needed and their service associate, Falcon, did an outstanding job of getting us back on the road. Picked up a screw in my rear tire had to leave the bike out on Hwy. 84 at mile post 26. Cycle Gear had the tire I brought the wheel off the bike but they weren't able to mount it for two days. Sorry but we have to leave you stranded on the freeway. Really? In my book that's weak. read more

I've gone to Cycle Gear twice in the past two weeks for various racing needs and both times the staff went above and beyond normal customer service to help me. Apparently I am an oddly-sized woman which makes it hard to find a one-piece suit that fits. Evan helped me for close to an hour trying on tons of different suits to finally find one that fit properly which had an abnormal back protector pocket, so he spent even more time helping me find a back protector that would fit the suit. I went in later for gloves and there was only one single medium sized glove in the style I like. Instead of telling me I was out of luck, Matt went to the back and dug through boxes until he found it's match for me. Always nice to comeback here but today it was even better so decided to write you guys. All my motorbike gears are from that specific store, they always willing to help. Today I went there to ask about a leather vest I got a year ago that lost the top button, also a small hole in the right Pocket. So I asked one of the guys if they can send it back to fix it and I will pay what's needed on the service the guy said - no warry, go find a new vest and we swap it for you. So walk in , nice ambience and other than the front cashier (looks tired with bags under his eyes) the others were helpful and nice. Unfortunately i couldn't find the stryker vest myself so seeing how the other store employees were on the floor with other customers i figured i would go wait in line to simply ask if they had any in stock ,so finally im up next and someone cuts in front of the line using a conversation starter to make it subtle none the less i waited and notice the guy looking at me but completely ignores the situation and proceeds to ask the cutter about his friend he helped out last time , now i h derstand relationships are important but why not kindly let me know you will be right with me instead of looking over at me and right after ask another question to the customer (almlst as if he was trying to last longer on purpose) the customer tried to leave with closing the conversation about 3 times before the cashier would ask another series of questions so after 16 min wait (started a timer on my phone AFTER already waiting some time) i left unattended and without my 280$ stryker vest so thank you but no thank you OREGON CYCLE GEAR read more

I used to really like CycleGear until one of their employees (a man heretofore unknown to me) was incredibly rude to me for reasons known only to him. I don't know why he verbally abused me; however, when I contacted his district manager regarding my poor experience, the district manager accused me of having an externally motivated agenda against his employee and was quite defensive as a whole. I remain incensed with both parties. I'd rather just order online and not get publicly admonished for mispronouncing "Shoei" or being called a novice rider for waving at others. When I confronted the employee for talking to me as such, he was amazed that I was offended! I don't need to be defecated on by those rude jerks, thank you. I recommend you shop with a "real" local bike store and not give your money to this soulless corporation where no one takes ownership of their employees' wrongdoing. As another yelper has stated....terrible to non existent service. Spent the better part of twenty minutes standing in a line while one employee asks if any of us need something other than for them to ring us up while two employees are busy helping the chick with the boyfriend who is just there to try on Jackets and says he isn't buying and the other guy sells tires to a guy who doesn't even know what size he needs. They need to stand at the registers though to conduct these non-sales things to make sure that those of us who actually KNOW what we need are kept captive for the longest time apparently in an effort to devalue our business. Congratulations! It worked! Stopped by the dealership by my house, found what I needed, got an inventory slip made up and was out the door in less than the 20-30 minutes of my life wasted at Cycle Gear. My advice? Avoid like the plague unless you want to buy cheap "Bilt" brand stuff and don't mind spending half of the day here with people blissfully ignoring you. Most of what they show online isn't available there so there's that to factor in as well. read more

I've been to this Cycle Gear a few times now, and usually walk out the door with what I went looking for. They sell a ton of stuff. Honestly, maybe a bit too much for their floorplan. It's pretty cramped in there and can be difficult to navigate if there's more than 3-4 other customers. The staff is fantastic. They've always been very helpful, pleasant to deal with, and they seem to know their gear well. I don't feel rushed or like I'm a burden to them; wish I could say that of more retail establishments. Bilt. Lots and lots and lots of Bilt. I get that it's their house brand, but I'd like to see a bit more inventory of something other than Bilt stuff. This is especially true with helmets, where it seems to be about 75% of their inventory. Their parts section isn't all-encompassing, but I'd say it's better than I'd expected given the size of the shop they have to work with. If you're looking for a universal-fit part, you'll likely find it there. Something specific to your bike? Probably not. Overall, I'm very glad to at least have them as an option when I'm looking for motorcycle gear. I do think they could use a few more square feet and a few more parking spots, though. read more

Ok, I don't know what the hell happened to cycle gear but this place has turned into a pain in the ass. The salesmen don't usually know what they're talking about unless its something basic like a helmet or gloves and the high pressure sales doesn't really seem right in a motorcycle shop. I ride a motorcycle, i know what I want, I don't get how they think they're going to talk me into buying stupid crap at the counter. If i wanted high pressure from a salesperson I'll go to Bobs used cars down the street. the prices are good but other than that it can be an annoying experience. read more
