I visited most of the stations in the Bristol area and surrounding countryside when I was doing my extensive traveling here and because I love visiting Rail stations. It's a cute example of a little British station with an amazing urban flair. This tiny little station is especially amazing because of its little Station House on the only platform which is covered in murals and graffiti and that makes it extremely unusual and notable and honestly gives it so much flavour that it's probably one of my favourites in the country.

This is such a fun dinky little train station to use. It's not that easy to find and, once there,…read moreit feels very unlikely that a train will ever arrive! It's usually very quiet, and there's no ticket machine or information booth, or anything to help you at all, bar a small notice advertising potential changes to the timetable - but not the current timetable! It's all very surreal: just one track serving both directions. Make sure you aim for a specific train when using this line; check on the First Great Western website for the Temple Meads-Severn Beach line. With two trains an hour in each direction, it really is a very bad idea to turn up and hope for the best! And be warned: there is no service at all on Sundays! You pay the fare (£2 single for the whole line) once you're on the train. When it's really busy, it's unlikely the conductor will get round everyone with the ancient little ticket machine, so, though I hate to say it so baldly, you can often ride this train for nothing. At rush hour times, morning and evening, quite a few people use this line for commuting around Bristol and I would recommend leaving it to them at those times of day.

It was originally a house built in 1878 and is now a locally owned hotel. The grounds are well landscaped and maintained. It is next to a golf course. My room was on the smaller side overlooking the central fountain. The age of the hotel is evident and a remodel is due. There is no air conditioning and no screens on the windows, so if you open the windows you can expect insect roommates. The TV was small and channel selection standard for this area, don't expect complete sports coverage or American cable selections. There was a hot beverage tray and I had to juggle the outlet use between the TV, hot pot and my chargers frequently. Same for the lamp, fragrance ball and laptop at the desk. The shower flow was low and needs maintenance, but it worked. There is complimentary WiFi which worked very well. Since it wasn't very warm during my stay in late July, the room was comfortable and functional. The room rate was moderate. I had breakfast every morning. The continental selections were limited with a fruit bowl, baked goods, yogurt, boxed cereals and juice. There is no breakfast buffet and I ordered the same cooked breakfast which was fine with me. The restaurant is open for dinner from Wednesday through the weekend. It is a French themed menu, very good and reasonably priced. There is an adjoining leisure center with pool, spa, etc. which I did not use.

Quaint, local, on a country club with all brand new health gym and spa, this place was quite a find! A little far from the center of town, say 5 miles, we found this homey, comfortable, with large "family rooms" with 3+ beds. Wonderful filling and perfectly cooked breakfast, late night snacks, and I think, even drinks at the bar were included in our 79 BSPs per night. The staff were helpful and kind. The lobby, seating areas and restaurant spacious and relaxing. I don't know if i'll ever been in Wales again, but the pleasant location would bring me there first. ~ Ms. ali

As the name implies, this serves the well-known Somerset holiday resort of Weston-super-Mare…read more The station itself is on a loop off the main Bristol-Taunton-Exeter main line, thanks to the backward nature of its residents in the 1840s, who resisted proposals for the route of the original main line to run closer to the town. Instead, on 14 June 1841, Weston was connected to the main line by a branch, just over a mile long, and worked initially by horse-drawn carriages. Horse traction remained until 1851, by which time the town had begun to regret being on the end of a branch. This was rectified in 1884 with the construction of the present loop and a handsome station built in the local stone, with large glass canopies over two through platforms and a bay platform. A separate station for summer excursion trains was built just to the north, but closed in 1964. The loop line was singled in 1972, which has since become something of a bottleneck. The station now has a regular service of trains from Weston to Bristol Parkway and from Taunton to Cardiff, providing a half-hourly service to Bristol and an hourly service south to Taunton. This is supplemented by a handful of trains to and from London, and a small number of Cross-Country trains from Plymouth or Paignton to Newcastle. Cross-Country would like to operate more services to Weston, but the timetable is constrained by the single track. The station buffet has been turned into a pub, named 'Off the Rails', known for its changing selection of real ales and cider, and it also does food. There are entrances both to the station approach and the platform, so it's easy to pop in for a pint while you are waiting! The station has level access throughout, a taxi rank, cycle storage and a large car park. They both are open early but close early so if leaving Chepstow you'll most likely be buying on the train - 2 platforms available There aren't many connections at Chepstow unfortunately which places the town in a strange position as being close to Bristol by car but ages away by train. Trains going deeper into England will take you to Cheltenham Spa via Lydney and trains going deeper into Wales will take you to Cardiff and/or Maesteg. The station is kept in decently good shape with an overpass to get you between the two platforms. It's also in a really convenient location only minutes walking from Tesco and the town centre. There's also some limited seating available under cover from rain. My only complaint is that on the side of the station that gets you to Cardiff has a back area that is overgrown with weeds looking out into a dirt patch. It can get really creepy there at night and sometimes when I'm waiting for the train late I always have in mind that no one would be able to hear me scream!

They do serve a full breakfast from 0700 to 0900 and have their own on site pub that is everything you expect of a traditional pub. The drinks are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is quite jovial. There's even a inflated jump house out back for the children plus picnic tables if you want to drink, smoke, or just enjoy the fresh air. The television is a bit small but you do get SKY television channels so that's a plus but the most impressive thing is the staff. They are always polite, courteous, and cheerful and always checking to make sure you have everything you need.

The downsides were: Demanding a swipe of your credit card before signing in even though my company pays. This is a pet hate of mine. The food, although very pretty, was expensive and tiny in the restaurant if you need to walk anywhere, which I did, there are no footpaths outside the hotel leading to the nearest major road. I had to walk in the road or on the wet grass, neither very satisfactory will dragging a wheelie case. The remote for the telly didn't turn it on, just off. The wifi in the room was almost non existent. Other than that fine :-)

The staff a quite friendly and helpful. The hotel hosts quite a few parties and events at Christmas time.

You can park in a private car park for 15 pounds a day. The building from the outside is very pretty and regal. The decor in the communal area is very nice, colourful and Arty with lots of art dotted on the walls. The breakfast was also very nice, tasty n beautifully presented. The staff were helpful and friendly. I would give four stars for this alone, however our room disappointed me. The room was a little tired, too small and the bed was also very narrow and small. There were also a few stains on the bed spread which is not acceptable. So for these additional reasons I lowered my grade to three stars. Overall a pleasant stay.
