If I could give Tyson, the owner of Titan Landscaping, a zero, I would! While we waited for my…read morelandscape designer to create a drawing, Tyson asked me for a deposit to secure a spot for the job. I agreed, although I thought $1,000 was steep for a deposit and felt I should have been given a quote first. I felt pressured because he said they were filling up spots quickly and that, without the $1,000 deposit, he couldn't guarantee me a spot in his schedule. Tyson finally gave me a quote after I paid the deposit: $6,450 to install sod, despite the fact that I had already prepped the ground. So, $6,450 was just for him to bring in topsoil and lay sod on approximately 650 sq. ft. (which we had measured ourselves). For some reason, though, he quoted 1,075 sq. ft. Maybe his measuring tape was broken, or he doesn't know how to use it, or maybe he was just straight up being dishonest--either way, it was an inaccurate measurement. The middle section of the yard was supposed to be flagstone, which was quoted at a more accurate price of $10,100. Typically, most landscaping companies would: 1. Give you a quote first. 2. If you agree, then ask for a deposit. 3. And finally, schedule the job. That was not the case with Tyson at Titan Landscaping. I understand things change--as I had an unforeseen roof replacement during this process that prevented me from continuing. I also had received a few other quotes just for laying sod across my entire backyard, all of which were much cheaper than Tyson's quote, which was based on an incorrect measurement. One company quoted me $3,000 to install the sod. I even called Western Turf Farm, which sells premium sod, and was quoted just over $800 to deliver 1,000 sq. ft. of sod to my door. So, I guess Tyson charges about $5,000 for labor to install it? After telling Tyson I couldn't proceed with the larger project but wanted him to clean up my garden beds and add some soil, he refused. He also refused to return any of my deposit. I understand the purpose of deposits, but for him to not even work with me to simply clean up some garden beds for $1000 was a huge disappointment because, according to him, that would be basically doing it for free. He also complained that it cost him $400 in gas to come to the property (twice) to take measurements, which I have a hard time believing since I live in Poco, and he's in Maple Ridge. Again, his inaccuracy seems to extend to fuel costs too. I suggested he keep $400 for his time (which was far more than fair) and return $600 to me so I could at least feel slightly satisfied, as well as pay someone else to do the garden bed clean-up, but he refused. Clearly, customer satisfaction is at the bottom of his priority list. Interestingly, he's not on Google, so no one can review his company. I wonder why? All in all, if anyone is looking for a landscaping company, I strongly advise staying far away from Titan Landscaping and choosing a reputable company with better communication and an understanding of situations that may arise.
