History
Established in 1990.
We started Custom Cartridge, Inc. in 1990 in Goleta, CA. We focused on combining precision accuracy with superior ballistics to build superior ammunition. The company uses proprietary processes, trade secrets, and advanced ballistics knowledge to create superior long range hunting and self defense ammunition. We operate under a wide utility patent for our unique frangible self defense ammunition, serving agencies like the LAPD bomb squad. Our hunting ammo has been used for non-lead depredation by the US Forest service, as well as by thousand of enthusiastic hunters throughout the country.
We almost single-handedly saved the hunting season in CA in 2008 when non-lead ammo was suddenly mandated for a third of the state. When CA made it virtually impossible to continue profitably there (due to hostile legislation and regulations), we moved the business to Montana. We continue to innovate as we serve our thousands of happy customers throughout the USA.
Meet the Business Owner: Bill J.
Our owner, Bill Jopson, was shooting by age 8, and building his own ammo by 12. He qualified for Olympic trails in skeet shooting in the 1980s. He successfully started and grew a number of industry related businesses in his 20s & 30s, culminating in the formation of Custom Cartridge, Inc. He holds US Patent 6,694,888, governing the programmability of frangible projectiles and ammunition for self defense purposes, along with his business partner and wife, Becky, and her father, Howard Davis.
Becky was managing computer and network systems for the University of California since the days of the ARPAnet, and through the beginning of the internet. She joined Bill in the ammo business just before 9/11/2001, where together, with her father and husband, they worked on frangible ammo for self defense. Bill and Becky continue the business, and are happy to help any new or existing customers achieve better results. Becky focuses on treating customers as she'd like to be treated.
