"Torn curtain giving me the glance Torn curtain is bringing on the trance Torn curtain reveals another play Torn curtain, such an exposé" (Television) If you're heading to a show at Curtain Call and pop "1349 Newfield Avenue" into your phone or GPS, don't freak out when the Sterling Farms Golf Course appears to be your destination. That's because the Curtain Call Theater Complex lies within the golf course. Curtain Call has two indoor theaters and an annual free 'Shakespeare on the Green' summer program. They entertain over 30,000 theater lovers every year. I attended last night's 7:30 performance of The Taming of the Shrew. The gate opened at 6:00, and yes, admission is free, but $20 donations ($10 for seniors) are suggested. After I checked in, I was escorted to the lawn seating in front of the stage. There are a few seating options. If you wanted primo seats, you could bring a blanket or "low chair" right up to the front of the stage. If you want to sit in the next tier of close proximity to the stage in a traditional height lawn chair (behind the blanket crowd), you can reserve a spot for $28, and they'll put a big sign on the lawn with your name on it. If you don't choose to have your spot reserved, you'll set up your chair right behind the reserveds. I didn't reserve and ended up with a great location -center stage in the third row of chairs. I saw a lot of patrons with some pretty fancy food spreads -salads and charcuterie and sandwiches, etc. BYOB is NOT allowed. If you want a freshly made burger or hot dog, a short walk to The Stillery restaurant will get the job done. The Taming of the Shrew is a Shakespeare comedy about courtship, gender roles, and marriage. Curtin Call is a non-profit theater with volunteer actors and staff. The Taming of the Shrew's cast was phenomenal, they all had strong voices and commanding stage presence. In my untrained opinion, I thought Miranda Falk in the role of Biondello stood out. Her comic touch, body language, and mastery of long rapid-fire monologues were outstanding. I thought she deserved a standing ovation after one of her very funny scenes. And in case you're thinking of checking out Curtain Call, you might be intrigued by a December offering called "The Three Scrooges". Imagine Charles Dickens meets Moe, Larry and Curly!! read more

The Kweskin theater space is a very sophisticated production space. I wish I could say the same for the Curtain Call cabaret theater space. This is not a good venue for theatrical productions. Poor sound and poor lighting and awful seating sets a difficult mood for seeing any performance. No matter how good the acting might be, the space just makes any production that I have seen there a disappointment. read more

As one who knows Curtain on stage backstage and from the house, I can say this theater is top notch in every way. Larger productions (usually musicals) are performed at the Kweskin Theater while smaller productions (usually straight plays and comedies) are performed at the intimate Dressing Room Theater right across the road on the same grounds. In both theaters, productions are top notch, with professional production team leading the non-pro but highly talented performers. Even if this place were not my theater home in Fairfield County, I would still rate it 5 stars! read more

Curtain Call is a true gem. It is one of the best parts of living in Fairfield county. The selection of shows each year is always excellent, which is why I get season tickets every year. Best local live theater in Fairfield County. Two theaters (Kweskin, beautiful traditional house with great sight-lines and The Dressing Room, an intimate cabaret style black-box space). That doesn't count their summertime Theater on the Green for Shakespeare. They have fresh productions year round with local and Broadway talent. Tickets are very affordable and we have never been disappointed by the quality of the shows. read more

Outstanding theatre. We love going here, both in the main theater and in the dressing room, where you get to bring your own everything...what a great way to watch a show. I'm currently in my 5th show here. They do one show a month with a 4-5 week run usually. each experience gets better. Although right now I'm sitting here at curtain call writing a yelp review. Every show I see and do here is incredible. I love how it's community theatre which means all ages and they really try to get a lot of people as possible in the cast. I've never been rejected. And if you are, you can still help out with the show. Weather i's ushering, working up in the spotlights, etc... they always want people in and part of their show supporting the theatre. I've seen just about 15 Broadway shows, and yes Broadway is better (being broadway) but gotta say, sometimes it's pretty close. read more

It's Broadway in your backyard. Shows are fantastic, in either theater. The musicals in the Kweskin have been full of talent and almost make me wish I could get up on stage and join them. The energy levels are high and the talent seems to raise the bar with each performance. The DRT has shows that have moved us to tears and have made us laugh so hard we cried. The price is more than fair for the value of entertainment. If you are looking for a great evening of theater, look no further. read more

I've only seen two shows here, Les Miserables and the Wizard of Oz. I don't know if there's been a decline in quality in recent yeas, but I was a bit disappointed. The orchestra for Les Mis was awful, and while there were a few great performers, overall it was nothing spectacular. The Wizard of Oz was painful. Again, a couple of VERY talented performers, but the overall production was barely on par with your typical community theater. Most of the supporting roles were weak and the choreography was awkward and difficult to watch. read more

Broadway in my own backyard! The shows here just keep getting better. The talent is amazing and this is all by volunteer! Hard to remember when you are hearing those beautiful songs, and seeing the antics on stage. Have been here many times and never a disappointment. Well worth the price of the ticket and the facility is great! Musicals, family shows, they have it all. Last show was there for was Jesus Christ, Superstar and it was AWESOME! read more
