Wow, just wow. Blew my expectations out of the water. Delectable. Gourmet. Flavorful. I loved the intimate but high-end ambience whilst still being affordable. The staff were kind and attentive. Five out of five.

Traditional Northern Indian cuisine housed in a good location ~ 652 St Andrew's Boulevard in West Ashley. You won't find buffet set up with all you can eat, so food is presented, freshly prepared. The brightly lit dining room has curtained windows at every table. There is also an outdoor area to dine in front of the restaurant. Parking is convenient and steps from the door. I went in on a Sunday at noon and got the lunch box special, which is complete with rice, dal and naan. A side of Kheer ( Indian rice pudding) is also included. I ordered the hot chai tea to combine with the flavors of the meal. The service is friendly and efficient as well as attentive. You are able to order online for pick up or reserve your table for lunch and dinner. We welcome Curry Palace to the neighborhood!

We had an excellent "day one" dinner at the freshly opened (read: today) Curry Palace in the previous Le Bonne Franquette space on St Andrew's Blvd. We've had our fingers crossed ever since we saw the sign go up. The space, while looking familiar, was given a fresh coat of paint and changed just enough to lose the French cafe vibe while maintaining the quaintness of the space. The outdoor patio looked freshened up and seemed bigger than it was but actually isn't. We ordered our goto test dished when trying out a new Indian spot: Butter Naan Garlic Chili Naan Chicken Tikka Masala (mild) Lamb Vindaloo (spicy) Basmati Rice (included with entrees) Mango Lassi Hot Chai The Naans were both good and fresh and a great vehicle for all sauce from the entrees The Chicken Tikka was beautifully tender and the sauce was rich with warm spices. The Lamb Vindaloo was also very tender and I was happy to see that there was a little bit of fat left on the meat because fat is flavor and a lot of places over trim in my opinion to the point where the meat can be dry from lack of fat. I ordered it spicy but I'm a heat freak so I will ask for a little extra heat next time. But the sauce was savory and not overly sweet which is exactly what I look for in Vindaloo. The rice was perfectly cooked, each grain separate and light. The chai was hand made and the Mango Lassi was also not overly sweet. A great pairing with the spicy naan and vindaloo. They do have a full bar with Cocktails, Beer, Wine, and zero proof options. We will definitely be going back to Curry Palace. It is so smooth and flavorful-and too easy to drink! We then shared veggie samosas that were absolutely delicious. We both had the lunch special, which I highly recommend. It's the perfect amount of 2 dishes with rice and naan. We enjoyed sitting at the bar and Abhi was our server/bartender. He kept us great company and answered our many questions:) Rivayat is a lovely spot for a nice lunch, happy hour or dinner.

The waiter only gave us three rice bowls for 4 entrees and we had to ask for another later since we never received it. The dinner entrees only came with rice and we had to order naan separately. One of the lamb dish was good but the one with pistachios was bland. The tandoori chicken was good and the fish curry was probably the most tasteful. As far as the naan, we couldn't really taste the garlic and it was bland overall. The two appetizers were okay, the tandoori oysters and the fried chicken. The oysters were tiny and flavor was bland. The ambiance was nice. The tables don't have white linens, the light on the table ran out of battery so we had to tell the bus boy to replace it. The silverware were wrapped around a napkin, so not as high end as you would imagine. Since they charge so much, I would expect higher end table setting. We ordered 9 cocktails total amongst our party of four. All were $16 each except one IPA which was $12. On the pricier side. Honestly the best part of the dinner. As far as service, I would give it 2 stars. The waiter wasn't that attentive and we had to get his attention to order more drinks. The naan was priced at $10 on the menu but the bill showed $12. At the end of the meal, the bus boy asked for our utensils so he can clean the table. Normally they will pick them up themselves or wait until we leave. He came back and made us lift our cocktail drinks so he can wipe the table down, which was odd to us. Finally, the restaurant is quite pricey. For a party of four, we paid $450 dollars. If you want to try this place, go during lunch for cheaper options. Honestly, we will opt to go somewhere else next time if we are going out for Indian food.

Cardamom whispering secrets in the corner. Menu too big. Brain too small. Butter chicken staring at me like it KNOWS me. Vindaloo threatening my future. Saag paneer glowing green like it's radioactive but in a comforting way. I order too much. Always too much. Curry math is fake anyway. Food arrives. Time stops. Sauce everywhere. Rice soaking it up like a sponge that trained for this moment its entire life. First bite: boom--warm, rich, spiced, comforting, slightly aggressive. Second bite: why am I sweating? Third bite: I would defend this curry in court. Naan shows up late but forgivable because it's soft, pillowy, and clearly designed to shovel curry into my face faster. Garlic naan specifically--because I respect myself. Curry on the naan. Curry on the plate. Curry on my soul. Everything is curry now. I am curry-adjacent. By the end I'm full, euphoric, mildly confused, and absolutely convinced I could eat here twice a week and never emotionally recover--but in a good way. Taste of India isn't subtle. It's not quiet. It's curry curry curry lots of curry and I would like more, please.

I have suspected for a while that most Indian restaurants are getting their food premade from somewhere else and are just hearing it up. Bombay did not give me that impression. The food actually tasted different from most Indian restaurants and I really liked it! We started with the lamb samosas which had a bit of spiciness to them that liked. I had a lamb vindaloo, medium spice, and it was just right (I usually get "Indian hot" but wasn't in the mood for that tonight). Two of my kids had chicken curry, a third had butter chicken. We shared butter naan and Kashmiri naan. Mango lassis around the table. Everything was really good and tasted fresh, and didn't come off as pre-made. Food was a little slow to come out but I can tell it's a family place with only two people there tonight so I don't mind. My kids really liked the food here, it was the first time my youngest had Indian food and he is a big fan now. There is also a small Indian grocery attached which is worth checking out as well. J.Ja
