Antiques meet coffee (and everything that comes along with it). It's a bit of an old world style café with "antiques" crammed into it, which you can also buy, if you have cash left. Not all of the items here are in fact antique -some are just made to look old- which makes it also a bit pretentious. It's so hip to mix worn-looking beach-themed tables with a weekend coffee. I feel set back into 1960s Bondi more than 2016 Thornleigh next to a railroad. Mind you, I wasn't around in neither 1960s, nor in Bondi.
That then also sets the theme for the menu (granola yogurt in a jar anyone?) and the prices on it. No doubt the items on the menu are nice and enjoyable, yet value (read prices) suffers a bit here. Coffee prices are segregated into blacks and whites, but no racism here! Your regular take away coffee sets you back $3.80, even your macchiato! The large ones (coffee that is!) is a proud $4.30.
Here you're being served Campos coffee. It's got their typical tangy taste and unfortunately is not as characteristic as some of the other roasters, so it's not this café's fault.
This place is run by a team of friendly Koreans (I think, but "" if not) who know something about managing a busy café with almost no room to spare.
Your eyes definitely won't get bored here. There's as much stuff put in here as is just permissible by health and safety regulations (just kidding, it's safe). If you bring younger kids, make sure you don't end up buying more than your breakfast. No doubt it's a cozy place, with an appetising and varied menu. Curl The Whisker is definitely a highlight of a café in the Thornleigh area, hip, but luckily not too hip. No tattooed and bearded barista here. Phew! Go, check it out! read more
