I would like to provide more context for those searching for a pelvic floor PT that might relate to…read moremy post. I was a patient here for around 18 months and saw 2 different providers, both of which failed to demonstrate trauma informed practice. After thousands of dollars spent, I would like you to learn from my experience. Dr. Caroline recommended a book for further information. I was told each chapter started with a story, and before purchasing, I wanted to know if there was a trigger warning as I could not handle any content related to sexual violence or a traumatizing pap smear. Even after repeatedly discussing what trigger warnings are and why they are so valuable, Dr. Caroline did not investigate the book for such warnings. I mentioned this to Dr. Lauryn later, but she had stated that she would not advise on or investigate reference material trigger warnings for future patients. Her reasons are unknown to me but researching those would be invaluable to patients like me and contribute to trauma-informed practice. Before one session my partner and I were rear-ended on our way to the clinic. Dr. Caroline did not account for this going into or check in with me during the appointment, resulting in me experiencing a pain level that was much greater than what we had agreed to. My partner was there with me and on our way home stated: "Dr. Caroline was different today, should I have said something? She was really pressuring you." It is important to recognize the ways trauma history and current mental state can impair communication. This, along with the power imbalance within the appointment, can easily lead to harm if providers are not trauma informed. Dr. Caroline and I set up a communication plan afterwards, but she was inconsistent in following through on it. Furthermore, Dr. Caroline, encouraged disassociation between my mind and body to complete hands-on homework assignments. This setback my progress and I spent several sessions with Dr. Lauryn trying to overcome this ill-informed treatment plan. After I switched to Dr. Lauryn, a clear indicator that this too was not a good fit was when she did not respect my "no" during a conversation. That stuck with me because if she can't respect my "no" during a conversation, how can I expect her to respect my "no" during a hands-on situation. My goal for my final conversation with Dr. Lauryn was to get reassurance that no one else will have the same negative experiences I have had. I did not get this reassurance and, unfortunately, that is why I am posting this. Dr. Caroline and Dr, Lauryn, I mean no ill-intent. You just have a lot more trauma informed education needed to call yourselves trauma informed. One resource I highly recommend is the School of Consent.

Went in for abdominal pain and other GI issues for months, he says its muscular and the GI stuff was unrelated and gives me pain killers and muscle relaxers, and tells me I am too young to have IBS. Well its months later and I am still in pain, so I go to a doctor now who will actually test me and investigate. He only ever talked to me with a prescription pad in hand ready to prescribe me some new pills to take. It never seemed like he put much thought into any of my cases since in his opinion I was too young to have any problems. Tell that to the kids who are living in hospitals around the country with cancer or other serious illnesses. I told my new doctor that, and they laughed at how ridiculous those comments are. On one occasion he did not even show up to his office for my appointment time, so I had to reschedule. If you are looking for a primary care doctor, then keep looking because you will be underwhelmed by both the level of of service and bedside manner you receive with him. Several members of my family are Dr. Brown's patients and they all leave their appointments beyond impressed with Dr. Brown's knowledge, compassion, and dedication to each patient. She is well worth the price and any potential wait. The fact that she doesn't accept insurance, while unfortunate for personal finances, is actually a good thing. Because Dr. Brown doesn't work with insurance, she's not ruled by them. This is why she can care for patients as they need, not as the insurance companies deem "the cheapest approach". If you look at your last co-pay bill from a doctor's visit, you'll see those appointments are billed at THOUSANDS of dollars. Dr. Brown isn't paid by insurance, so her prices of $895 for a new patient and an average of $350 for follow-up appointments (based on complexity), are incredibly reasonable. This is also why she can spend more time with her patients-- without insurance setting their typical limits (see X amount of patients daily and each appointment can only be 15 minutes max), Dr. Brown can dedicate the amount of time the patient needs for each appointment. This is why Dr. Brown's shortest appointment is an hour long, with some scheduled for as long as 90 minutes. Dr. Brown is so dedicated to her patients and ensuring the highest possible care that if a patient's needs exceed the scheduled appointment time, Dr. Brown stays until their needs are met. Dr. Brown prioritizes the patient in front of her. She looks at the whole person: life experiences, each system of the body, and their daily quality of life. Abrupt discontinuation of this medication is known to cause seizures. I had to find a doctor who cares, after wasting over $500 on my last appointment. It all seems to be about making money, and not about the best interest for the patient anymore. I am very disappointed. I am thinking that I may report this incident to the State of Wisconsin, as this incident could have been life threatening. They never offered my $500 back after not refilling my restriction, even though they said they filled it. I am elderly, and really feel that I was mistreated and disrespected. I am on my third week of treatment for shoulder pain and am now sleeping through the night and only once in three weeks have I taken Ibuprophen. A past treatment: back pain on and off since I was 20 (over 50 years), had constant low level pain and severe annual episodes. I woke up one morning to find my knee in such pain that I could barely move it off the bed, much…read moreless walk. I needed help to get up and get to a chiropractor who helped get things moving again and somewhat reduce the pain to where I could at least hobble or use a wheel chair on my own, but after a month the pain had not gone away. I was told to see my primary care doctor who took some X-rays and told me there was nothing they could do, that I had a degenerative condition that would only get worse and all they could do is put me on pain medication. That medication actually doubled my pain though and so I quit taking it after a week. Then I found Patrick at Fastback Physical Therapy. Within 15 minutes of a free examination Patrick assessed the issue, came up with a treatment plan and declared he could fix it within 6 weeks without drugs or surgery. I was pretty skeptical, but he was dead on. Six weeks later my pain was complete gone with no drugs and no surgery. My range of motion was restored and I was back to hiking in the woods for miles and miles with my family again completely pain free. Incredible. There is a saying that goes something like, 'Any technology sufficiently advanced will appear to be magic to those who have never experienced it'. Truth be told, Patrick and his team understand and apply the science of motion and how the body's ability to heal itself works at a level much higher than any other Doctor that I saw, but to me it just felt like magic.
