The selection of newspapers and magazines is very good. I've noticed newspapers from all over the world, reflecting the wealth of ethnic backrounds of local customers. There is also a large stand with greeting cards for all occasions. This shop is really a mix of newsagents and corner shop, selling all sorts of convenience foods. The prices are slightly higher than the local supermarkets, but the convenience of buying a pint of milk almost right on your doorstep is worth paying extra for, in my opinion. You can also get you tube/bus passes here. the bus stop is right in front of this shop, so a quick top-up of the Oyster card is more than convenient here.

I always see the same man working alone in the store and this little store can become quite busy. They have a huge selection of magazines and newspapers as well as all the basic items you might need. Their shelves are always fully stocked which is a plus. I am not exactly sure if they accept credit cards, never tried due to so many people coming in and out and I don't want to inconvenience everyone else for the sake of £5 or so. They sell bus passes and travel cards and you can top up Oyster. I am almost sure that they open at 7 in the mornings, so if you ran out of credit, tada! There is no cash point in the area, so be prepared. Oh and they do sell scratch cards and the National Lotto.

It is well stocked, reasonable prices for the items it sells, and yes the same man always works there! Sometimes he has an assistant, but not often. They do open about 7am, and stay until about 7-8pm 7 days a week. It does get very busy as it is the only local shop to offer Oyster top-ups, bus passes and sell Oyster cards, otherwise you have to travel to a shop near Sainsbury's to get Oysters. If the newspaper you want is out of stock, come back in the evening and a fresh stack will be waiting. It is very clean there, and very well run. Odd times it is closed until later in the morning, but as the one man runs it, of course this can happen due to delays etc. However this is rare, and he will always be open each day in the end. They do take bank debit cards at a 50p standard charge, not sure about credit cards. They even sell batteries!

It's your classic 'emergency purchase' location, but the range of cards isn't half bad, actually, and prices seem average for the area - about £2 for a nice birthday card. As you'd expect for somewhere with passing 'tube' trade, service is super quick and efficient (three of us were served in about 8 seconds flat). If you are looking for food and you've a little more time, there are several excellent sandwich shops in the same complex.

This location is super convenient to The British Museum, the service is honestly very reasonably priced and the owners were lovely. There's a lot of competition in the crowded book/newsagent/stationery market but good old WH Smith…read morehas been around since I was a nipper(it's a wonder it still survives;-) I remember getting very excited about choosing my reading treat there when I was a kid The chain has experienced tough times and has had to adapt. Their Kingston upon Thames branch is sizeable: on two levels - newspapers, magazines, cards, confectionery and soft drinks upstairs - along with some books on promotion. Downstairs there's a decent-sized 'branch' of Costa Coffee, books for all ages, and most tastes; DVDs, stationery supplies and lottery tickets. It's usually clean, orderly and pretty well-arranged. There are some great, friendly, helpful staff there too and an 'intriguing' range of book signings. Today, I chanced upon the Fonz himself beside his collection of Hank Zipzer children's books. He looked, happy, healthy and elegantly middle-aged. An eager queue (from tiny to tall) had formed waiting to meet him; the event was well-organised. Henry Winkler was on excellent form, enjoying repartee and a laugh with his fans new and old. Not sure about leading the queue for their next celeb event, later in July, with lovely Katie Price (aka Jordan); readers please note: the occasion permits a maximum purchase of three of her books.
