Rude and defensive responses when problems arise or questions are asked Low opportunity for meaningful parent involvement which decreased over years. "We know best" attitude toward parent (handbook touts "partnership"...this is NOT a partnership) One grade per class is typical. In lieu of hiring 2nd teacher they will create a big class. Curriculum is Abeka. The teachers do not use all components. Extracurricular offerings vary year to year and also mid-year - seem to struggle with staffing. Sports are limited and begin in middle school. No science labs. No library. Teachers rely on youtube videos for "brain breaks", "down-time" and "enrichment". The admin has no real concept of how often this is happening.

This school is ok but I feel some of the staff could be more professional and ethical in their…read moreprocedures and how they communicate with parents/guardians as well as students. I know its a small town and everyone seems to know everyone's whole family but many new people are moving to the area that are not from here and SOMETIMES the lack of professionalism is very noticeable. I have had to complain about unprofessionalism from the school nurse, a few teachers and other faculty. They also need a better bullying policy that is actually enforced. This may be a statewide problem & I'm not really sure, but it seems this school has a "one size fits" all procedure when dealing with different situations, different children and circumstances. They aren't horrible by far, but these are some of the things that could be tweaked a little to improve the school. If my work schedule didn't conflict I would join the PTA and contribute more ideas to improve but for now this is all I can do. We have a little time left with Culpeper Middle School so perhaps this review will change into more of a positive one soon. The principal is good though.
