Nothing about the job changed, and no hidden damage was discovered. Their explanation for the increase did not align with standard industry practice and should have been accounted for before the bid was given.A contractor should honor the price they put in writing. Raising the cost after taking a deposit is not acceptable business practice, and I would advise others to proceed with caution. We are currently attempting to have our $1700 deposit refunded.

Five Stars - Trusted, Thorough, and Professional…read more We've worked with Matthews Home Inspections for over five years, and he has inspected every single home for our clients, as well as two of our own personal homes. Phil is consistently professional, thorough, and extremely knowledgeable. A home inspection is meant to be an objective, factual report--not an opinion piece designed to make everyone happy. When an inspector reports findings honestly, that's called doing the job correctly, even if someone doesn't like what's in the report. Disagreeing with the results of an inspection does not mean the inspector did poor business. It's also important to note that some recent negative reviews appear to be written by individuals who did not actually hire Phil as a customer, which does not reflect the true experience of working with him. Phil's reports are detailed, clear, and rooted in protecting the buyer's best interest. That level of integrity is exactly why we continue to trust him year after year. We confidently recommend Phil Matthews Home Inspections to any buyer, seller, or investor looking for honest, high-quality service.

During my recent experience, I found the inspector to be knowledgeable in conversation. Specifically, the report stated that step flashing was not used on any vertical surface above the roof line. This finding was unexpected to the roofer, who returned to address the issue and discovered that step flashing was present on every vertical surface above the roofline. When this discrepancy was brought to the inspector's attention, the response was unfortunately unprofessional, including name-calling and other inappropriate remarks. Such conduct is not conducive to resolving concerns and does not meet the standards expected in professional interactions. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this inspector to others.
