We went by during their closed hours on a Christmas market weekend and voila, they were open! We…read morewere able to walk right in and get a table at 3pm which nobody eats at 3 so lucky us. The interior was very rustic and not a French country rustic or even a cabin, but more like a workshop. It was comfortably warm and very tight between the tables.
We perused the menu which is offered online in English as well as reviews and quickly surmised that we had to order these three dishes:
SOUPE A L'OIGNON GRATINEE ....... 10,50 €
CUISSE DE CANARD SUR LIT DE CHOUCROUTE ..... 24,90
BOUCHEE A LA REINE .... 22,90 €
Onionsoup, not French Onion soup because there can be no other in France! This version was very onion forward but I could taste butter. I was surprised that there wasn't any dark broth...just onions and what tasted like stuck from onions. The croutons were amazing with a baked sharp cheese of some sort. It was good if you like white onions.
Sauerkraut with Duck leg & Potatoes -Thus was spectacular as the duck skin was so flavorful and the meat was so rich, the sauerkraut really helps break up the rich flavors. The potatoes were good but a bit under-seasoned
Vol-au-vent Veal, chicken, mushrooms Creamsauce & Spaetzel was pretty good but a little one note. The mushrooms were cooked in a white wine that gave them an amazing flavor. The rest of the dish was mild in flavor. A very kid friendly dish.
Cute place with a view of the river if you're lucky enough to get those tables. Decent food and very friendly service.
