I went in roughly 20 minutes before they were closing to exchange a pair of shoes. While in there a…read moregentleman came in and was trying to be forceful with the sales associate about using the bathroom. Saying he wanted to buy a pair of shoes but he had to wash his hands first. The associate was very accommodating to the man and explained they don't have a public one and told him where he could find one. The man got kind of irritable and asked her if she would grab the shoes he would like to buy and she again was above and beyond helpful, even though he was being aggressive to her. He started having a conversation with himself and complaining about everything and she again was above and beyond pleasant and helpful. At one point he openly said he often has conversations with himself and while trying to help him she would let him finish his conversation with himself and did not interrupt him. He made me nervous from a short distance with his aggressiveness and his demanding behavior towards her. He ended up leaving without any shoes, he kept getting louder about getting converse for ten dollars somewhere else almost like he was trying to get her to lower the price and she still kept calm and pleasant while helping him. Cassandra and Sonya were the names of the associates that had been helping me, other customers as well as the difficult man. They both looked high and low for the shoes I had been looking for and were not giving up. It ended up being a couple minutes after six when I had found a pair and not once did they try to rush me so they could close, they were both trying to be helpful and as pleasant as could be.

In the market for a new Hoyt target compound after being away from the sport for several decades…read more Made a phone call before driving over and while they did not have the exact model I'm hoping to buy in stock the gentleman who answered the phone was courteous, welcoming, answered my questions before encouraging me to drop by. Arriving at the shop I found a densely packed pro-shop that tended toward hunting rigs (which is not a bad thing....it's just a reasonably well stocked shop in need of a bigger space that is stocking what the market demands) and a multi-lane indoor 20 yard target range. The man behind the counter was with another customer but greeted me promptly and indicated he would not be long. (If I had a penny for every gun/hunting shop that completely ignored me upon entry.......so this was a welcome turn.) Noticing there was another customer in the store a gentleman who had been on the line shooting set his bow down, and introduced himself as the owner and shook my hand. He too was extremely helpful, answered my questions and offered some qualified advice after learning the "target/competition" direction I was leaning toward. Basically I got a very good vibe from the owner and his staff and was assured if I purchased my bow through them I would receive a full compliment of expert tuning and fitting services as well as 2 months free access to the shooting lanes. I feel confident that I found the best full service pro shop in the Northeast Region. Lots of places can sell you a new rig but most leave you high and dry when it comes to providing expert assistance with fitting and tuning. Super glad I dropped by Big Al's. Next step is a short appointment with the owner to check a few key measurements (draw length etc.) before we place my special order for a left hand 2018 Hoyt Prevail. If my first impression was typical of their service I'm looking forward to doing business with them. (I'll provide updates once we get the bow in and I have a chance to work with them on fit and tuning.)

They've got a retail part and shooting/target section. The staff were all great. Clearly experienced and knowledgable. No attitude, I never felt dumb or like I was asking a stupid question. And they were really good about helping me find what I was looking for, not trying to upsell me on everything. Overall, got what I was looking for, felt really comfortable, and am glad theyre not that far away.

I've never been treated with anything but respect at this store. Mike, Jamie, and the other men and…read morewomen who work here are knowledgeable, friendly, and respectful. They never try to swindle or oversell. They will pull apart every shirt in that store for you to try on if you asked them to with a smile. These folks are professional. Is it different than the old "John Farley's", yes of course it is, it's under new ownership. I had not been shopping at J.F. for an incredibly long time, so I was not a yeas-long customer before they closed as many were, but I've had really great experiences at both. J.F. was a bit larger, and seemed to concentrate more on tailored suits and tuxedos than off-the-rack sport wear, outer, and casual, but Farley's still does tailored suits and still uses some of the same manufacturers. This means that if I need to replace a pair of pants on my charcoal suit which I bought at J.F. four or five years ago, I can. they have a lot of variety and carry a wide range of sizes across all of their brands, and they know which brands run small and which run large and will tell you! I'm a big, somewhat strangely proportioned dude, and yet just about every time I go here I manage to find something that I can wear comfortably. I remember on time we were talking about different manufacturers sizing and to prove the point they had me try on a Peter Millar XXL shirt and a Rodd & Gunn XXL. Millar fits me quite well, still a tad snug in the shoulders but fine. The Rodd and Gunn however wouldn't even come close to buttoning, there was about a 3 inch gap between the buttons and the holes! They predicted as much. So if you have a question about a brand, they will know the answer. They also carry 34 Heritage jeans, which are one of the only brand of jeans I wear for general use. The bottom line is that this is a top notch shop with top notch employees. It may not be quite as formal as J.F. and the below reviewer's situation is unfortunate, but when a business closes, gift certificates are no longer valid. It's a risk one takes with buying/giving them. If J.F. had sold the gift certificates after they had planned to close, they should have informed the person buying them that they needed to be used by a certain date and wrote that on the certificate. You can't really expect a store to give away free merchandise because someone sat on a gift for a long time or the former store failed to inform the purchaser of a potential close. I also know for a fact that John Farley informed people of their closing far in advance because every time iId go in to buy something for months before closing I was reminded at check-out.
