When there's a White Sox game this station is jam packed. As for the flip side, if there's not a game it's pretty quiet around here. There's also other ways to get to the stadium, but this is the most convenient and fastest usually. Among the things going on around here, there's nothing that tops a White Sox game. It serves the Red Line. The station is located in the middle of the Dan Ryan Expressway, so it's noisy. A benefit from being outdoors is the fresh air. There's not a bad smell. It's a pretty long station, stretching between 33rd and 35th so you have to give yourself plenty of time to get in and out. This is a much better way of getting to a game instead of using gas and paying outrageous parking prices, so you have more money for outrageous concession prices. Getting to the White Sox games is convenient from here. It's among a few public transportation options, along with the L station on the Green Line, and Metra. These plentiful choices means it's usually not a long wait for trains.

The Western Avenue station is my favorite because it is on a boulevard and that's a pretty tough location to beat! This station seems to get quite a bit of light on sunnier days. I think it has a more comfortable feel to it than the Kedzie and Ashland stations. Those stations feel "tucked away" to me - - and not in a cozy-feel type of way. This station has the usual escalator/stairways along with an elevator. I deducted a star because that elevator was out - of - order for about a month last year. Also, it was out another time and no one bothered to put a sign on the platform elevator door--wasted minutes waiting for an elevator that was not working! I have since found out that you can sign up for alerts regarding the elevators--it's nice to know in advance if they aren't working. The first couple of times that I added money to my CTA card on the Ventra vending machines, I asked the CTA attendants for assistance. Both times they were very kind and did not make me feel like I was bothering them. Sometimes people in this sort of job can do that! Luckily, not the case here. They were pleasant, helpful and willing to assist. There is a Dunkin Donuts in this station, which could be a plus, however, according to the current reviews on this DD Yelp business page, it could also be a disappointment. There are connections to four bus routes at this station : #35 (31st/35th Street), #39 (Pershing Road), #50 (Damen Avenue) and #62 (Archer Avenue). This is close to Chinatown and McCormick Place. Good place if looking for a station not as busy. It serves the Green Line. This is a great alternative to the Chinatown station a few blocks west. Not only is it less busy. Observe how nice this station is. Modern and has ample room in the lower area to hang out when it's cold. The upper platform is pretty clean mostly. Busiest on weekends because of McCormick Place having events. It still can be less busy than in Chinatown so it's a good alternative to head a few blocks out to here instead. The trains come a few times each hour and usually are on time.

According to the train schedule, waits for trains are usually 7-8 minutes for most of the day. Chinatown is a neighborhood that is split into two parts, as one part contains Chinatown Square, while the other part contains the main Chinatown neighborhood. The station is located in an eastern location between these two areas that is equidistant to both. The elevated train platform also has a nice view of the Chinatown area including the neighborhood library and the Chinatown gate. On the street, the station entrance is close to the Nine Dragon Wall, which is a nice piece of Chinese art. I recommend this station if you are trying to get to Chinatown as trains are frequent and because it operates at all times of the day. There is no need to take a car if you are a tourist unless you are buying some heavy relic or coming from out of town.

The location is probably the only thing worth mentioning too much about it, but this is a pretty okay station. Best thing about this for sure is the location convenient to Chinatown. It serves the Red Line. This is literally right there. Just walk west past the parking lot and you're at tons of restaurants. There's a big parking lot for those who drive here, that's $2 for 3 hours, but it has limited space. Get here by the L instead, and actually save even more and help the environment. There's also pretty cool views of the architecture from here. Get to Chinatown the cheapest and fastest. It's better than parking because there's no need to drive and there's no time limits. The trains always come often.

When I lived in South Bend, Indiana, I would often fly out of Midway because it was cheaper than flying out of South Bend. This meant I would have to get to Chicago somehow, and that somehow was usually the very old-school South Shore Line. The easiest thing for me to do would have been for me to take the South Shore to the end of the line, walk a block to a Loop El station, and catch the Orange Line to Midway. But I liked to pretend it was easy to save money, so I would get off at this station, walk too far to the El station, climb some serious stairs with my bag, and feel happy that I saved $3 or so. I'm sure this station is convenient if you're not going all the way to the Loop, but if you're trying to save money like I was, it's not worth it. Honestly. For as large a station as this is, the platform sure is desolate, and getting to it requires climbing some steps. I never felt unsafe when I was here, but I was usually here in the daytime, and I can see how someone would consider this station unsafe because of its remoteness from the closest busy street and its lack of safe exits.
