Mostly I am frustrated by poor prep work and lack of transparency of what was and was not possible. Within months of the paint job, doors began peeling as well as moulding around the doorways. There were some areas where wall repair was required. Small spots but still noticeable to the naked eye. During the walk through, confidence was on full display that those areas would be repaired, prepped and painted. Those areas were never properly repaired. The original flaws are still visible. Some of the "repairs" also fell apart within several months. I don't expect the paint to look the same four years down the line and expect to touch it up. However, the issues I describe above were within mere months of the job. Even with my doors not being high end quality, the contractor should thoroughly explain the limitations of their abilities. I have been lowkey simmering for several years on these issues. While communication was perfectly fine, lack of execution, lack of attention to detail, over confidence and lack of honest appraisal of one's abilities is simply too much to overlook. If you have straightforward painting, I would recommend them. If you have anything above simple repainting, I'd caution you to stay away. Especially if the surfaces need quality prep and skill in repairing. I would have been perfectly fine having someone with those abilities repair or prep but that was not the information I was given during the quote. I was told no problem and that everything would be done perfectly.

After a handful of calls, Osker from West-Cal asked if he could come by same-day, and he surveyed the work. He was extremely personable and a pleasure to talk to. After some back and forth on what work needed to be done (my wife and I couldn't decide between the whole house or the partial paint job), Osker got us on the schedule ahead of our move in date! It was a big project (3400 sqft house), and as such there were some minor delays, causing them to finish work on our move in date. I can't fault them -- we were getting last-minute turn around -- but it turned out to be a great opportunity to see how the team works. We were in the house when the team did some finishing touches and a few second-coats on trim. Their work was meticulous: You could see them painting extremely carefully, and working hard to make the paint job exact. We loved seeing this. It was clear they took great care in their work. The project manager, Ulysses, was wonderful to work with. He clearly cared about our satisfaction, and also made sure his team did a great job. We contacted Trico, and they quoted a $3,500 minimum, which given the process of painting cabinets, I understand. However, when I explained the situation and asked for an email stating the minimum, they said it would be "unethical to charge that to another contractor" and refused the job. The other contractor told me they understood entirely, so what exactly is unethical? My takeaway is that Trico is there for the big jobs and has zero interest in anything else, which is disappointing as customer that paid for one of those big jobs. EDIT: In response to the owner's reply below, I want to be clear that I'm not trying to misrepresent anything here. I was trying to hire Trico to repair the cabinets. They refused the job only after they learned I'd be reimbursed by another contractor, which I truly just don't understand.
