My fellow Yelpers (Lorn C. and Mikhail C.) decided to explore the Third Thursday event here as one…read moreof Lorn's friends was displaying her art that night. Lorn and I had been to this venue for the Yelpie awards and decided to return as we were impressed with the artwork the first time we came. Third Thursdays is a free event each month and it displays the works of various artists. Also, if you park at the Plaza parking lot on Court Avenue just a few blocks away, your parking ticket is validated, and you only pay $4. We got there around 6:30pm and the place was already packed. We got a drink at the cafe and a shout out to Miles for being a fun server and a good conversationist. We then proceeded to see all the art displays from photography to paintings to ink drawings. The main floor is much roomier as the second floor was quite crowded and tight given the separate rooms for the displays. But we still enjoyed ourselves and got to see the work of Lorn's friend, Grace Garvey, as well as other artists. The second floor's main room was dedicated to "Black & White" artist renderings and many of the displays were quite intriguing. The main floor had some excellent concert photographs that exuded the energy and passion of the performers as well as the crowds. This is definitely a fun free event to attend in downtown Orlando.

We were then able to go on our own and visit the displays. Pictures were allowed, which was wonderful because I didn't want to forget some of them and they were great inspiration. They had a great selection of art, including art by teens and it is FREE so what a great value. We've decided we'd like to go every so often to keep up with the displays.

There are quite a few pieces I have my eye on, but nothing I can afford at present. If you plan on making a purchase here, make sure you have a high limit on your credit card. The lowest price a giclee will run you is around $1500. If you're looking for an original piece, add a few more grand onto the price tag. The employees here are wonderful. They know each piece of art very well and can tell you all about the various artists. Also, unlike many places where high priced items are sold, the employees treat everyone with respect and they will actually give you the time of day!

My friends and I absolutely enjoyed ourselves here while celebrating my 35th birthday!…read more Our Painter/teacher was amazing! She was patient and stayed opened after hours to accommodate this special day for us. Unfortunately, my entire group didn't show as it was a 10 person minimum. I had peeked into Artroom several times finally last year I signed up for a class - the format was really nice ( adult oil ) first weeks all newbies were given a beginners project and Linda walked us through it in detail sharing wonderful tips that I did not even get from Valencia professors - no offense - most importantly her expertise in teaching and reading the class is incredible - she knows each student their capabilities strengths individually and coaches accordingly - giving honest constructive feedback in a very warm manner. People joke that it is a lot cheaper than therapy and works even better. After the initial project everyone works on a project they want and Linda coaches everyone individually on their projects finding bringing resources - recommending references. It is a group class so this level of individualism surprised me in a good way. My only regret is that I did not find artroom sooner

From the outside, the gallery building was impressive! it was a beautiful replica of an old, about 1200 A.D., traditional Norwegian stave church. The details on the exterior of the building were beautiful. The wood carvings and architectural detail are very interesting when viewed up close. I have passed by this gallery building many times and didn't realize that you can actually enter the gallery. This may be another "hidden gem" for guests at Epcot! There is a relatively short exhibit to walk through that mainly focuses on Norse Mythology specifically the Vikings. The exhibit mainly revolves around some of the main Viking Gods like Thor, Loki & Freyja. Since the exhibit is somewhat small, this exhibit can be walked through fairly quickly. However, the exhibit has been well built out. A large piece of the exhibit is centered around an array of carved figures, as well as several artifacts and exhibits explaining various aspects of Norse Mythology. This exhibit is certainly more educational then entertaining, however, I feel like it was a nice little "mini-museum" type experience within the larger park. One of the things I liked about it is that it's an opportunity to take a break from the crowds! It was cool inside, air conditioned, and gave me time to relax for a little while. Many guests make their way right over to Frozen Ever After next door, as a result, this area can get overlooked! I'm glad I took the time to check it out. It's a cool, low key experience that adds a little depth to the Norway Pavilion!

DON'T MISS THE CULTURAL STORY OF THE BUILDING…read more The Stave Church Gallery is housed in a very impressive looking building in the EPCOT Norway Pavilion. We were disappointed by what we saw inside the building - a single small room with a few artifacts (real or replicas?) with attached stories (ancient Viking myths or Disney movie plots?). Somehow Disney lost us here but during our short visit, we completely missed the story of the cultural significance of the Stave Church. We later learned that the word stave refers to an architectural style using vertical wood posts known as staves. Stave churches were medieval wood churches that date back to Norway 1100s and the EPCOT Stave Church Gallery is a replica of the Gol Stave Church that was built in the 1200s.

This is the Art of Disney store which you find off of Main Street USA in The Magic Kingdom…read more There's also one located in Epcot and another located at Downtown Disney. Beautiful pieces of Disney art are yours to be discovered here. Prices range from $-$$$$. Art is definitely not something you want to be carrying around with you all day in the Park. If staying at a Disney Resort, you can have your purchases sent there. If not staying at a Disney Resort, your purchases can be sent to the front of the Park and picked up on your way out at the end of the day. I have purchased art and picked it up at the end of the day and every piece is wrapped professionally and with care. You don't have to worry about anything tragic happening to the piece. They have classic Disney cartoons playing on a huge screen here. They have an area set up for the kiddies where they can color and draw. In addition to fine art pieces, you'll also find prints here, as well as books on how to draw Disney characters yourself, postcards, and many other interesting things pertaining to art. They also have Disney artists on hand who can draw your choice of a Disney character which is then placed on the face of a watch. It's expensive, but pretty cool. Oliver is one of these artists and he has been with Disney for right at 20 years. He's an exceptional artist and very friendly. I have spent many hours in this store sitting on the floor by Oliver's desk and chatting with him while I take in the a/c. Why? Well, Florida is damn hot in the summer time and when you are at The Magic Kingdom almost every day, you find where the best air conditioning is. Right by the artist's desk inside this Art of Disney store, there is a vent in the ceiling which blows some of the coolest, strongest air I have ever felt. So to keep from dying of heat stroke, I'd often come in here and plop down on the floor under the a/c for a while. So that's a fun fact for you and now you also know my secret of where to find the best a/c at MK! hehe =) Even if you aren't particularly interested in purchasing a piece of art, this is still a neat store to stop in and have a look around for a few minutes to oooohhhhh and ahhhhhh at some of the pieces they have on display!
