The Short: Great breakfast at an affordable price…read more The Long: I got a take-away coffee from this business yesterday and it was fantastic. Based on this, we decided to avoid trying one of the cursed Rumba Resort Restaurants of doom below us and head a block away for something a little more genuine. We weren't disappointed with Chilli Jam Cafe. On the order today was the Big Breakfast ($12.95) with a substitution of extra mushies for beans (no extra charge), John's Breakfast ($9.95) with a substitution of avocado for tomato, Fresh Orange Juice ($6), and some coffees. The Big Brekky is a measure I use to judge a cafe. I was really wanting to try the Lambs Fry brekky (which is apparently something customers come in specially for), but I was gagging for some eggy action for brekky, and had to go Big. The poached eggs were a little on the underdone side, but that just means you can smash your toast into them and get that flavour going. The sausage was a pork and herb offering, and it was not one of those fine paste meat varieties: it actually had some really nice texture to it. Next time I would substitute another one of these in and opt out of something else next time, because you can never get enough sausage. ;) John's Brekky was a smaller version of the Big Brekky, but was most definitely plentiful and delicious. My wife opted for Scrambled Eggs (because she can't stand "snotty" eggs in general), and was pleased with her choice: they were well cooked and seasoned. The avocado substituted in was fresh, and was a lovely accompaniment spread on the toast. We both opted for multigrain bread which was slathered in butter and was delicious on it's own. But when you mashed it around into the various offerings on the plate, it was even better. The Fresh OJ was served in a Mason Jar, and was pretty big for $6. I could have easily done another. It's really tempting to come back here again for lunch, because the lure of the specials board really did read well. You can also do this thing were you pre-order your lunch for the next day and get a discount for doing so.

Seeking good coffee on a Sunday morning in Golden Beach we thought we would head to this well…read morereviewed cafe and restaurant. We did have high hopes for a reasonable meal and a good coffee based on what we had read from other peoples reviews. Unfortunately we weren't overly impressed. Moorings wasn't terrible, but it really didn't live up to the rave reviews that had built up our expectations. First up we ordered coffees. My soy milk was overheated and not very nice to taste. I think part of this may have also been the brand of milk that they use which is So Good. I am more of a Vitasoy or Bonsoy girl for my coffees. The coffee flavour itself was very weak and not something that I would write home about. Mr G had a single piccolo and the coffee was so badly burnt and the milk overheated that he burnt his tongue on the froth. After being ignored for a while the owner noticed that he had pushed it to the side and came and offered to make another one. It was an improvement on the first, but still not great. We also ate brunch whilst we were there, which was corn fritters served with salsa and the option of bacon for him and ham for me. The food was good, but was slightly different to what we were expecting. The corn fritters were little more like corn muffins or pancakes but they were still decent athough nothing to rave about. All in all Moorings is in a lovely location near the beachfront in Golden Beach. I would be curious to try another meal and perhaps sample from the selection of European beers on the menu, but other than that I wouldn't be in a rush to go back.

We have had lunch on several occasions. Great view of the passage, nice breeze and the menu choices…read moreare excellent. Several good , all reasonably priced . Top marks from me.
