One of just a few traditional chippies in this most northern tip of the town, this fine takeaway really knows its, ahem, plaice. For here, you can still find a choice between, say, haddock and cod, instead of the not-so-thrilling listing of generic 'fish'. There's all the accoutrements of course, but nothing deviant enough to spoil the whole mood of white coats and vinegar.
Because of its Four Oaks spot, you may find you're paying just a bit more for what is threatening to become nationally known as 'chippy tea'. But it's almost worth it just for the bright, clean and old school feel compared to the express lane-checkout vibe of those places promising chips but presenting fries in a tray.
It has a decent residential catchment, but there should not be too much bother finding a parking spot, either immediately outside or at one of the neighbouring stores which help to create a seemingly growing Walsall Road commercial strip. Most of them are catering to a niche, but a general convenience store and a huge and popular pub are among the set. Worth making a special trip then?
