I do not usually write these type of reviews but I believe if this can keep someone from making a life altering, ignorant decision, it is worth it. Let me begin by saying there are a lot of genuine, kind hearted people at Crown College. Many of my teachers genuinely had a heart for their students and wanted them to succeed. I am from Knoxville and so is all of my family. Crown college is in a convenient location for someone who lives here. A few years ago, I began my journey for a degree in elementary education. I was attending an out of state school because of its credentials and accreditations. I soon learned that Crown College became accredited and through discussion with a Crown advisor, I made the decision to transfer to their college. Through discussion with this representative, I was given the impression that Crown now had all I needed to become a successful teacher. I was even told that Crown will help you find a job upon graduation. In my mind, this was a great opportunity for me. I went through the grueling years of college and the intensive work. To me it was worth it because, in the end, I would be able to obtain my dream job. I reached my final semester. I was completing a 40 hour internship, additional outside projects for the education program, three additional classes, and a full time job. It was grueling. I averaged 3-4 hours of sleep a night. In the end it would be worth it. In our very last semester, we had a meeting with all the student teachers. In this meeting, they told us that while crown was accredited, they were not licensed. While it is something they were and still are working on, we could not take our praxis or get our license through the crown college. If we wanted to obtain a license we could contact another institution and possibly take their masters program and then apply. I spoke with several other colleges and some do not even accept credits from crown. To take a program with them, I would need to start from scratch. I understand that it is a Christian college and most graduates want to teach in a Christian school. But even most of the Christian schools in my area do not consider teachers without a license. Because I graduated from crown I do not have a license and do not know how to get one. I have tried to seek council on what route I need to take if the road requires more work. No one has been able to help me, if I do not want to re-begin my bachelor's journey. My education degree is virtually useless and I cannot find a teaching position remotely close to where I live. A year and a half later, I still work for the job I started to get me through college until I could have a job I love. I am not a teacher. I understand Crown is a private institution and it is their prerogative to be as successful as they desire. But their duty to their students is to make them aware of what they will obtain through their institution. Ignorant college students are just that, ignorant. They come to college to learn success and how to obtain what they want to obtain. Through guidance is how they succeed. If you go on letting them believe your accreditation is the highest standard of what they need to succeed to the highest degree, they will believe you. They have come to you for more knowledge. I wish that someone had told me that accreditation and licensing are not the same and upon graduation from Crown a teaching position would be hard to find close to home. I have paid more than $80,000 to Crown college for a dream I know not how to obtain. Ignorance is bliss until you reach the outcome. read more
