Mark the know it all pale face Claims to know more about the Lakota than the Lakota themselves. I was with my two daughters and for me it was interesting to hear what he said But it was a 90% one-way street I got in about 9% and my UCLA daughter got in about 1% mostly just went on stream of consciousness nonstop his life story, his parents life story and other things but he's like a crank professor who says the same stuff over and over. Ironically I was trying to help them out and being gracious because he charged me $250 for this filthy dump and he said he was new at Airbnb and I'm a super host so I was giving him tips on how to change the pricing and getting the place cleaned up he also tried to charge us $36 for our breakfast after he started cooking it! he actually entered the unit without knocking and started the breakfast early in the morning and then told me that it was gonna cost us money. also he he gets quite political.

The location is perfect for nature hikes, stargazing, and peaceful relaxation. After staying with them, driving through the more tourist oriented parts of the state (Custer, Mount Rushmore, and Crazy Horse) was a real dissappointment due to its falseness and lack of connection to the real scenic beauty of the place. The Odd Duck Inn is a wonderful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city and to refresh one's self in a relaxed environment.

This also goes by Love Hotels at Badlands OYO…read more Prepaid for a discounted reservation at the Love Hotels at Badlands National Park at Kadoka SD. When I arrived, I was charged an extra $7, the discounted amount that was not waived for prepay. I then checked into my room only to find hair covering the bottom of the pillow cases. I asked for new bedding which they said they had none available, so I was offered another room. The second room was infested with flies, as in I had half a dozen flies crawling on my body within a few minutes of sitting down and turning on the tv. The front desk clerk said that was probably the case with all the rooms, so I checked out. The clerk gave me the number to call to request a refund. I called that number 5 different times. Each time they documented my complaint, and I received a form mail stating a refund would not be issued. The last two of the five calls I spoke to a supervisor. When the first supervisor reviewed my complaint, I was told that I left because the AC didn't work. The second supervisor told me I left because the room wasn't clean. I asked to speak to someone above him, which he said there was no one above him that could handle a claim. I asked for callbacks and not form mails, but got form mails. I have since disputed the charges on my credit card. I never received nor is there a place on their website to leave a review. But make sure to read the reviews of this hotel before booking, and my suggestion would be to go elsewhere. Top to bottom the whole experience was extremely substandard.

We were given a room with a very well functioning heater and a less than functional air conditioner while it is 95 and up outside with the dew point at the same number. We were given a second room with a much better air conditioner. They had breakfast in the morning which was nice! Very friendly and hospitable staff. They're working hard. When they open officially, it'll be nice!

And the cabin we had was cozy and nice & clean. One of the best national park overnights we've had. The main building has a nice giftshop, a small shop (booze sold here), and a just ok restaurant (tiny - boring menu). Great location in the Badlands. Killer views just a short hike from the cabins. There are nighttime ranger talks, also a quick walk from the cabins. We really enjoyed the astronomy presentation. The rangers had a green laser they were able to point out different constellations. We even saw the International Space Station go overhead. The staff we interacted with was very kind.

The cabins are ok but suffer from some deficiencies. - Ours…read morehad two beds crammed in but the smaller one had no bedside light, so the person there required the main room light to read. The larger bed had two ridiculously weak wall lights but also one side lamp. - In-room coffee is one of the small gadgets that take pre-packaged coffee packets. But they only give you two, even for a six night stay. Given there's no daily room service, you're left coffee-less after one morning. We managed to score a few more from the maids/room service people doing room turnover outside but still had to go in to the lodge to ask for more. My advice? Bring a coffee maker from home. - The rooms are basically motel rooms, so you get a mini fridge, microwave, the aforementioned small coffee maker, a nonfunctional TV (we didn't care about that) and weak sometimes nonfunctional wifi. The lodge/cafe has functional wifi. - Some other issues: front door screen wouldn't latch so unless we wanted flies in the room, we had to keep the main door closed. Flies are a problem here. The back door had no screen door at all. Windows were cranky/non-functional. - There we're no instructions on the various remotes. One controls the heat (and possibly AC, not sure); the other controls the main room light and fan. But the light/fan also has wall switches so you might find yourself pushing buttons on the remote to no effect or flipping wall switches uselessly trying to get the light to come on. Didn't need to fiddle with the TV remote. - The alarm clock kept alarming and we couldn't figure out how to cancel the alarm setting, even after going online to read the manual. Ended up unplugging it which also meant losing the USB ports. We always bring extension cords and power strips so that wasn't a big issue. Even with all those problems, the cabins are still nice and are conveniently located within the park. The main building (which I guess is the 'lodge' even though it has no rooms itself) is close by and has essentials as well as one of the better National Park gift shops I've been to. Restaurant is nothing great but it's there too (separate Yelp page for it).
