I've been seeking a church for some time now and kept being drawn to Crossroads by way of television promos and checking out their website. I went to the Dayton church for Easter service hoping to find what I was looking for. The building was open and spacious and everyone was very welcoming. I thoroughly enjoyed the music and was blessed to be able to see quite a number of people get baptized. Once the actual service started, I noticed the minister I was watching on the large screens was nowhere on stage which I thought odd. When he would make an amusing comment, it sounded like a laugh track...it wasn't coming from within the building. When the service was over, I asked one of the volunteers if the Dayton ministers ever actually gave a sermon since clearly what I saw that morning was streaming. She told me rarely do the local ministers actually preach, it's almost always a streaming service from their Cincinnati location. I emailed the church later and they confirmed they typically use a service recorded either Saturday night or early Sunday morning and that's what they use for other services. I felt like I'd been hoodwinked. I've watched their services online and you would never know it wasn't an actual live event in the Dayton church. Nowhere on their website do they explain this either. I can't quite put my finger on why this bothers me but I've had an extremely bad experience years ago with another church and it just felt like this was all a slight of hands situation...enjoy the benefits of having a large congregation but not have a hands on minister who knows his flock and ministers to them. This obviously doesn't bother the people attending the service but for me, it was disappointing to say the least. read more
