As a self conscious overweight male, the prospect of starting something like crossfit was daunting…read more I had never worked out on anything other than a treadmill or elliptical and I had two real concerns: Could I handle the workout? Would I feel judged if I couldn't handle the workout? From the very first class I learned that everyone there is at different fitness levels. I couldn't handle the workout as prescribed, but the coaches at Artisan work with you at your level and give you scaled (modified) motions so you can work up to more advanced techniques. I could handle that workout. What truly sold me on Artisan however was how comfortable I felt working out there. I have never felt like I didn't belong, that I was embarrassing myself, or that I was being judged. The coaches, to their credit, have a real knack for emboldening thier members with a positive attitude, and that alone is worth the price of admission. Add to that the care coaches take to adjust your form on a personal level, and a culture of family. Simply put, if I move away from Dothan, I'm going to have my work cut out for me replacing Artisan.

I have done…read moreCrossFit classes before but specifically wanted some personal attention on my weightlifting form. I was willing to pay extra for that attention. CrossFit Menawa advertises personal coaching on their website, so I did not think it would be the problem it became. I e-mailed CrossFit Menawa and they told me to come by and talk to Craig, the owner, about it. I dropped by several times on different days but Craig was never there. Staff would tell me to come back at a day and time Craig would be in, I would return then, and he still wouldn't be there. Then, even after I told the staff there I was only interested in some personal weightlifting coaching, not CrossFit classes, the staff still attempted to pressure me into the regular CrossFit classes. All I got was classic CrossFit sales pitch, which is fine, but is not why I was there. I don't know how attentive the staff can be if they ignore what you say and pressure you into something else. I would avoid this gym between it's absent owner, dismissive staff, and obvious bait and switch sales techniques.

NGL when I saw the website…read moreI was a little intimidated even though I've been doing crossfit for a few years (better yesterday...though lol). However, the first class I had with Nathan was incredible. This place is not only an excellent facility--spcaious, clean, lots of equipment, circulation--but the coaches...it's the coaches for me. My technique in squats, snatches, kipping pull-ups and even rowing improved tremendously. I can't say enough about Nathan, Autumn, and Aubrey. They really break down the movements to help you improve all-around. It's also a gym for everyone--age, fitness level, etc. There are three tailored levels for each workout, which for me is very helpful as I'm often in the middle. The classes weren't too crowded, either, but I'd bet it can get quite busy during the semester. I was proud to call this place home for over 2 months and will definitely be returning whenever I'm in town!

Previously there was no one there to help me. I am a 73 year-old lady and need advice on what machines i need to use for strength and cardio per my physician. Amon has been an awesome help in directing me to the correct machines and helping me set them up for my size and showing me how to use them correctly.
