We enjoyed driving across this bridge to soak in the creeky sounds of the old wood beams. This is one of the few bridges that you can drive across and is located near several other bridges. This particular bridge was built in 1856 by Henry Wolfe. On drier days, there is a rough road that runs parallel to the bridge across the river. It was rushing with water after a long rain during our visit so we crossed the bridge twice in our car.
Step back in time take a stroll across history. Located across a small stream down a gravel road. Makes a nice stop to stretch your legs or take a dip in the stream read more

The Crooks Covered Bridge is lovely, surrounded by corn fields in a picturesque setting. The bridge crosses little Raccoon Creek and was built by Henry Wolfe in 1856, making it the oldest bridge on the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival Tour. The bridge seems to be in remarkably good shape for its age. According to the Parke County map the bridge is passable by car, but there were many nail pops throughout the bridge deck, so we only crossed by foot. A modern raised road crosses creek next to the bridge for use when the creek is low. The gravel roads are narrow approaching the bridge. There is space to park and walk around the bridge. I love how the reflection of the bridge in the water. read more
The Crooks covered bridge is situated on CR225E (Crooks Bridge Road), a few hundred yards to the east of Bridgeton Road. The approach is on a well maintained gravel surface. Constructed in 1856 by Henry Wolfe to span Little Raccoon Creek, it is one of the two oldest surviving bridges in Parke County. Wolfe actually built 11 covered bridges in 5 counties between 1838 and 1860, but only 4 survive. This is a really nice example of the Single Span Burr Arch Truss design, which you can examine up close, and photograph from the modern bypass road just to the east of the bridge. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. #12 on the Parke County Covered Bridge Map. read more

At the time of writing this, the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival is about to start which showcases their multiple covered bridges in a colorful Fall setting. This bridge is one of the county's oldest dating back to 1856 (rebuilt in 1867). Remarkably, it is still in service though at greatly reduced speeds and the county has put in a small bypass to the east alongside the bridge to reduce heavy traffic. The bridge has the standard red and white colors with black lettering on the faces of the building. The length of the bridge is about 155' with a span of 133' across the Little Raccoon Creek. The bridge is a Burr Arch-truss structure with windows for viewing the creek from inside the bridge. This is the northern most of the three bridges in close proximity to each other along both the Red and Black Trail Tours. To find this one from Rockville, take Bridgeton Road south east about 3.5 miles. Where Bridgeton takes a right turn to head south, make a left turn to cross Molasses Creek via Wimmer Road (122). Take Wimmer east about a half mile to Crooks Bridge Road. You can pull over there without too much trouble to get out and look around the bridge. Great angles for taking photos are all around the bridge which sits higher that road level to protect it from flooding. Review #3164 read more
