Sunday River Goers Take Note!…read more As new dog dads... what can I say? From my initial phone call to Cathy & staff regarding daycare for our 4mo old golden retriever to our sort of last minute decision to board him for a night, EVERYTHING about BBK was smooth, easy and comfortable! Not to mention our little guy Griffin was absolutely loving life. They clearly are playing and having a blast as his GPS collar was showing lots of activity throughout his stay! We dropped off (early as well) and regardless of my apprehension they were friendly at 755am, greeted Griff and led him immediately out to play! Without shame, he had a bag packed with toys, towels, food, bowls, treats etc and upon pickup everything was there and in great shape! I think the quote was "hes got luggage" :) Leaving after the first 48 hours, Griff whimpered as he didnt want to leave- not knowing he was headed back the next day. The staff was friendly, knew him by the end and made us feel completely comfortable to enjoy our ski trip. WITHOUT hesitation we would recommend Cathy & Staff at Barker Brook and hope we can see them on our next trip to Sunday River!

"We" had an exceptional experience at Bethel Animal Hospital! While camping @ nearby Hastings…read moresite, our dog developed a noticeable nail infection that she could not leave alone (licking constantly). Since we were 100 miles away from regular vet, the search was on for "someone" to help us and our distressed pup. The folks at BAH were most caring, helpful and concerned. They "fit us in" to the schedule to assess, provided antibiotic and cone collar. Dr. Sullivan along with Buffy and Jean at the front desk were both welcoming and understanding of our situation. No question, BAH would be our choice if we lived locally. Thank you so much to the entire staff...WELL DONE!

My dog was brought in for a limp and despite asking if it could be tick borne, they said it was…read moreunlikely and assumed a CCL tear. They strongly encouraged an X Ray and skipped over blood work. The X Ray showed inflammation (which wasn't mind blowing, considering the limp) and said he'd eventually need an $7-8k surgery. We were sent home with pain/anti inflammatories. My dog's limp improved but he steadily began to lose weight -- we assumed this was due to a food change and he's always been lean/a picky eater. Last week it became obvious that he was ill and I called Bethel at 10am -- I was told they'd call back. I have that evidence on my phone but there was no note of it in my dog's records; I never got a call back, so I try again around 4. They told me my dog might not make it through the weekend and I needed the ER vet that night, and confirmed over the phone that it sounded like organ failure or cancer. We were devastated. After four hours waiting at the ER, and BLOOD WORK, which should have been a routine procedure to begin with at Bethel, he was diagnosed with anaplasmosis -- a TICK BORNE illness. I have spent more than $1000 for what should have been a quick and affordable diagnosis, and my dog suffered for weeks unnecessarily. I am so disappointed in this oversight. The staff are very kind and clearly care about animals. I appreciate them -- my issue lies with the veterinarian.

Despite having a successful adoption for a cat a few years back, we felt we were treated poorly…read morethis time when trying to adopt a dog recently. It was a Boxer, and we have owned several .Actually showed one in Obedience. Own our own home, and semi retired, with excellent vet references. Had 2 successful visits, but when we brought our Pom puppy, she was not friendly and unwilling to play. She gets car sick so was out of sorts already. Second visit was a little better. So thats 5 times we had already been there. We were told we could " come as often as it would take by a staffer names Robyn. The 6th visit we were told the dog was in"medical quarantine" and they'd let us know when we could come again. They never did and his pic was removed several days later. We were sad, but hoped he had gotten a good family. That hope was dashed yesterday when we actually ran into the new adopter, a disheveled young man with no teeth. We are stunned, and wondering how this fellow, who cant afford dental work, can afford a pure bred dog susceptible to cancer and Degenerative Myeolpathy. Our hearts break for this beautiful dog. My hubs actually also passed him on the North/South road because the dog had his head out the car window. Vermont plates so I hope he was thoroughly vetted. We've adopted from other rescues, but will pass on Conway in the future. We felt dismissed and disrespected.
