There are 3 classrooms, one for Crossfit type workouts, 1 for spin classes and 1 for all the rest. Then there are the cardio, weight and stretching areas and there is a sauna too. The thing that won me over was the blue lighting in the yoga studio with the sounds of the waves in the distance on very windy days. The instructors have been great and there are heaps of classes throughout the day. I also love the equipment they have. To compare it to the other gyms, it is more expensive but way better. I have been to Plus Fitness in Alexandria and the CBD. The CBD has great classes (Alexandria has none to my knowledge) but it is quite small and the equipment is not great. I also went to a gym in Marrickville that was taken over by fitness playground so no point in mentioning it as I am sure it must be different now. In conclusion, you get what you pay for here. Hint, look for someone trying to get out of their membership on Gumtree or wait for a promotion to avoid the sign up fee.

The girl at the front was really nice and asked if I was just visiting (which would be a $20 standard day pass) or if I was looking. I said looking and she said that I could try the gym for free, but a towel was required. I didn't have one but they sold them for $7. But horrible but not the cheapest. The facilities are really nice - there are "quickie" stations where you can do a 30 minute workout that included 8 minutes of cardio and then about 10 weight stations with a minute timer. There were also virtual spin classes where you just plug your headphones into the speaker and then ride along. All equipment is pretty nice and new. Overall a good gym with more reasonably priced memberships.

Everything else about this gym is great the reception staff are friendly and very helpful and always serves you with a smile. The equipment are modern and well kept and they are easy to use. The gym is very quiet after 9am and before 6pm and as well as on the weekends these are the best times to use this is you don't want to see the big crowds and the show offs. I pay $29.90 a fortnight which gives me access to any club across Australia. It's conveniently located inside Westfielf Sydney where you can grab a quick healthy meal after your workout as we need food before and after a workout.

The atmosphere in the gym is great, don't feel out of place, like some gyms I have been too. Doesn't get very busy like some gyms and I've never had to wait for any equipment I have wanted to use. Fast forward to now, you're required to pay what they call it a "Casual Pass" for $20 AUD. Upon entry, I was required to complete an online app on the Covid Service NSW website for contact tracing purposes, then pay the front desk before entering. The front desk lad gave me the password for free WiFi since my mobile was only running on 2G lol. I immediately noticed a major renovation starting with the ground level. There is a whole new Eatery where you can not only you can enjoy juices & shakes, but breakfast, lunch or dinner! The weight training area was a little to crowded and claustrophobic in my opinion, probably because space was made for the Eatery. Most of the LF Machines have remained the same, except they've added several Olympic power lifting platforms. I know it's summer season, but for some reason the air con was absolutely not working. There was a portable A/C unit tucked away in one corner, but not cooling down the room at all. Face masks aren't required, most people were not wearing one, nor did I seem to notice members using a towel, or wiping down equipment/benches at least after usage. Cardio was moved to the 2nd Floor, there are TV's mounted to the walls, and each machine has a personal monitor. I was trying to bluetooth my wireless to the monitor, but needed a standard earphone instead. The two areas I don't frequent are the Boxing Gym and the All Functional Training Studio. All classes are free for members, so that's a plus! On the top floor, there use to be a few machines, but now it's the Mind & Body Studio used for Yoga classes. I normally bring a hand towel from the hotel, but I think this gym provides for members. Locker Room is split Men's and Woman's area, also got a renovation. The place is very well kept because there was a custodian working that day, and there's tons of alcohol wipes all through out. All in all, I like City Gym because it's very convenient to the hotel, most of the members are friendly, and it's a very serious training gym, not your typical commercial gym. Hours of trade have gotten better, open 24 hours Mon-Fri! Check-in on Yelp to get either a Vanilla or Chocolate Spartan Protein Shake!

I bought a 10-pass, which is about $8 cheaper, per visit, than paying a guest fee. The gym itself is nice. It leans more towards classes and weight training than cardio, so if it's just a ton of cardio machines you're after, this might not be the place. That said, you can at least usually always find a free cardio machine, if that's what you want. They have a great range of classes. They always have a 6am class but then the next classes are usually around 9. Is it just me that thinks it's weird that there aren't many 7 or 8am classes. Like most there there's just an empty time slot. Odd. The staff are very friendly, especially at the front desk.

Wanted to take a break from…read morestudying and attended their Les Mill Body Attack, and then the Les Mills Body Balance class on a Wednesday night between 6:15pm-8:15pm. All good, got to experience the new releases for both classes last week, as at the time of writing this. Really helpful staff. Internet access and a cafeteria greet you, with a great swimming pool facility. No time to swim, just get ready for the classes. There are an abundance of locker facilities, and ample space to hang up your clothes prior to taking a shower unlike the other Fitness First gyms. Then why only three stars? Firstly, the classes were way too crowded, especially Body Balance. The Body Combat class in the main group exercise room were delayed, and hence my Body Attack class was delayed making me late for Body Balance in the mind-body studio which is a minutes walk. Never mind. With a platinum club you pay platinum prices, even if you do not use all of the facilities. Casual visits are $28 a pop, even though I did achieve my fitness goals on this occasion. However, if you come with a friend or family member who is a member of this gym, or of all Fitness First clubs, you get in for $22. Tried to download the free pass you can use on your first visit to come here, and I received server errors. I like Fitness First, yet I will give the George St Platinum club a try. Great, yet the platinum clubs are still overrated having tried this one and their one at Bondi Junction a while ago.

The gym is kitted out with all the latest tech gadgets (and who doesn't love a gadget) - my fav being the cardio machines (treadmill, elliptical etc). Apart from having a mammoth touch screen showing Foxtel, Internet (yes one could yelp whilst working up a sweat), mobile connection, workouts etc it also syncs with a smartphone app that records your workout specs - crazy stuff !! There are 2 levels - the entrance being predominately cardio, weighted machines and a core/ab workout area and a couple of showers. Walk downstairs, and you'll find the free weight area and a heap more unisex showers and change rooms. There are female change rooms though that include hairdryers and straighteners. So now, theres no excuse to NOT get a workout in during the day ... best excuse ever to go out and have that boozy lunch !!

I was able to try the gym out beforehand and the size of the gym might seem small from the outside, but was large with two floors for any workout you needed. There's studio space and open area for training in addition to many cardio machines, weight racks, and free weights. Sean, the manager, is extremely friendly and helpful getting you started on the right foot. Was fortunate to find a great gym and a 30 day membership while on holiday. Definitely recommend this place for locals and travelers.
