nachos

We'd recommend a shorter cruise with a different operator and stick to a snack like chips and a drink (skip the meal). We were really looking forward to this boat tour but had mixed feelings afterward. We had done this some years ago and really enjoyed it. And other recent boat tours of other cities gave us a nice lay of the land. Some of Montreal's most interesting sights are not along the water way and our experience with the food/service on this cruise left us feeling taken advantage of. We purchased our tickets at the window for the 11:30am first cruise of the day. We boarded and headed straight to the top floor, 2 flights up. We underestimated how sunny and hot it would be for the 1.5h cruise and wished we done one of the other shorter 1h cruises. Last time it had been later in the afternoon and we'd had a peaceful happy hour. Now to the truly bad part of the cruise - we were in a good mood and decided we'd have an overpriced lunch on the cruise. The waiter was really sleazy. When we ordered, he asked us if we'd like to make it a meal. There was no paper menu or prices. We said yes without realizing that there is no meal, not really. There was no discount for adding chips and a drink. When the waiter brought us the food, there were chips in the food baskets and then extra bags of chips. He immediately made some excuse about grabbing extra chips for us. Guess he was counting on us not to call him on it or ask if we were going to be charged extra. He must have realized we were in a good mood and wanted to have a good time so he also offered a side of bacon on the nachos and it was a totally overpriced unnecessary side. But again - no menu, no idea. We are not usually this gullible but who would have thought that after paying C$110 for the cruise that the waiter and/or the company would be looking to overcharge as much as they could. To make matters worse, the food just wasn't that good. The nachos were covered in a nasty jar salsa and jalapenos with broken teeny chips hidden in the center of the pile. We really hope that the tour agency reads this, weren't involved in the shady "make it a meal" and ensures they hire more honest waiters. Given this experience, we would definitely not take this cruise again with AML. The only reason we're leaving 2 stars instead of 1 star is because the boat tour is worth taking.

Excellent service. They had table service for food and drinks which was a nice bonus. I just wish I had known in advance so I hadn't eaten lunch before boarding. Your guys was easy to hear and very knowledgeable. Lovely cruise.

It was a very enjoyable experience. The waiting room was clean and air-conditioned, which felt great on a hot day. The staff were friendly and welcoming. While the drinks onboard were a bit pricey, the overall experience was fantastic.

I'd say the pilot of the boat showed condescending behaviour every now and then. The whale watching experience was diminished by the fact that they didn't take the boat where other boats were so close to the whales. Not a 5 star worthy experience. If in future there's another operator close by, I'd choose them than this company.

This is a large 3 floored smooth boat cruise to get a view of the city. They serve drinks and food on the boat and have a disco for kids under 12 towards the end of the cruise. They are part of the montreal city pass if you happen to get one. I suggest you call ahead of time because when we went to the counter to buy tickrts for the 11:30 am cruise, they were not open to the public because a school group reserved the boat. They only have 2 cruises - 11:30 and 2pm. We then went the next day and at first I thought that the boat was half full, and when they told us that there's a child disco at the front of the boat (adults are not allowed in that area), my son thought he would be dancing alone, but to my surprise, there was a lower floor reserved for a school group and a lot of children were dancing in that restricted area. I really enjoyed the boat ride. There was a live person speaking in french about the famous landmarks and buildings as we passed it. Both upstairs and downstrairs had tables for 4. The third floor was open so it was a bit windy, so the loud drunk group next to us spilled their drinks and had their cups fly off the table, but it at least didn't hit us. Staff was very courteous, especially to my two kids when they decided to sit on the second floor without us. She took good care of them as they ordered food and virgin drinks while we were upstairs.

I booked this cruise through Marriott Tours & Activities. Score for getting Bonvoy points while enjoying a lovely Saturday afternoon cruise. The cruise was scheduled for 11:30 am, but I arrived at 10:50 am to be safe and they let me right on the ship, which I appreciated. The cruise was scheduled to leave at 11:30, but really left at 11:40 am, with a few last-minute passengers jumping onboard at the very last minute. Tip, if you want a drink, don't sit in the lovely adirondack chairs. Despite having menus out, the servers never came by during the entire trip. Some things to keep in mind, bring sunscreen since you can be outside on the water over two hours. Keep in mind that the cruise can be windy and ladies, think about what you are wearing. I didn't want to get out of my seat in a knee-length dress due to my fear of exposing everything. If I did this cruise again, I would 100 percent wear pants or shorts, but I made it work as did many others. During the cruise the top deck will get crowded and people will grab your chair the second you get up to take a picture even with your stuff still there. Rather than getting annoyed by this, we took the opportunity to explore the rest of the ship. Another level had seats both outside and inside. The inside has face painting for the kids, the bar (drinks $10 -12 CAD), air conditioning, chairs and couches. It also has a dance floor, which wasn't used during this trip. Additionally, another floor looked like it served drinks and meals, but our tickets didn't give us access there. The narration of this trip is live and is offered in both English and French, but the narration is a bit limited and is only offered for about 20 minutes during the trip, but it's enough. The boat is slow moving and had plenty of options to sit both inside and out. I didn't see anyone bothered by the speed or lite waves. Since we left the dock a bit late, we came in late, allowing for a full 1.5 hours on the water. This cruise offers hundreds of picture taking and selfie opportunities. Come with your camera fully charged! Trip date: 7/13/19 Trip value: 5 stars Not cleanliness: 4 stars, with some painting needed and spider webs cleared Staff: 4 stars only due to lack of service to the adirondack chairs Would I take this cruise again? Of course, but with more sunscreen and while wearing pants!

I experienced the fireworks dinner cruise package on July 26, it was something I booked a couple months in advance for my birthday weekend. I highly recommend any kind of cruise for a special occasion. AML does brunch, dinner, overnights or simple sightseeing cruises and this was a very fun, original idea. The boarding time on my ticket was for 6:45 but I arrived around 5 pm to get a window table since it's first come first serve. Because there was a line forming well before departure, they let us in around 6. AML cruises seem to cater to an older crowd, probably because of the price point, there were mostly middle aged/retired folks on board. We are a couple in our mid twenties and were the youngest people there! The buffet dinner I chose was already ready for us once we got seated, food was as described on the menu, I really liked the sliced beef and veal tortellini- drinks are not included, soda or juice was 3.50$ with no refills and you'd have to tip on top of that. Maybe because we weren't paying for any extras, the service was slow - our server was inattentive to our needs and we constantly had to flag her down for water refills. Our dining room was on the bottom level of the Louis Jolliet ship, loved the huge windows and ambiance lights, everything was decorated nicely. We had some great views and just cruising on the river was a very relaxing/romantic setting. The floor is designed at a slant though so it can be uncomfortable depending on where you are sitting. You are free to leave your table and get some air on the upper decks but there is no guarantee that you will get the same spot when you come back as servers clear the table and re-set it. If you want more action, one of the decks had a dance floor, bar and DJ. I recommend leaving for no more than half hour periods or so and leave an article of clothing or something on the table to signal that it is occupied. Once the fireworks come along, everyone is gathered on the top deck, there are some comfy sofas and seats to lounge on - get there the earlier the better because it does get packed. Tip: when going down the exterior stairs on the ship, best to walk sideways, they are extremely steep and narrow, I ended up scraping the back of my ankles on the gritty sandpaper non-slip strips. Ouch! In all, if you like beautiful settings, a little glitz and glamour of going away on a 4 hour dinner cruise- this is for you.

Go to the bow for your place to see Montreal. Not very much information. I did not learn anything. One side Is industrial fills with containers and travel lift. Other side is more natural pretty. I would skip it in favor of a walk along the water. Expensive waste of time. Have a bistro on board that sells wine cocktails and nibbles.

I was planning on surprising my wife with a nice romantic dinner. She had an accident a few years ago and has lasting daily symptoms from her brain injury and loud restaurants are very difficult for her. Noise cancelling headphones help her, but it just extends the period of time before she is exhausted by a little bit. When I found these dome experiences, it was perfect, we could go out to eat without the background noise in an amazing setting! Arrived on Saturday and they could not find our reservations, I had downloaded the tickets from TripAdvisor. Initially, he tried to tell me it was for the boat restaurant, but the tickets clearly said dome experience. He called the owner and after a bit, the owner told him we cancelled. We did not cancel, nor does TripAdvisor allow any cancellations of this particular experience. I was extremely disappointed, but what we saw while we were there waiting softened the blow a bit. Upon getting back to our hotel later, I logged into my credit card account, and did indeed see a refund for the tour 4 days after we booked, but we never received any email notification on that, and had no idea. Assuming they aren't synced up properly, and possibly overbooked between their website and the 3rd party site. Now back to what we saw while there... When we arrived, we were slightly early, so we boarded the boat, and went downstairs to use the restroom, which is the main dining area. There was a large rack that held plates of food (over a dozen) in the main hallway, all uncovered, and less than 5' from the Men's room door. While in the restroom, there was a small home type soap dispenser that was completely empty, and upon my wife completing her visit to the ladies room, she mentioned the same thing for the women's room. Got a very bad vibe of the cleanliness of the entire operation, and in reading reviews for the boat experience (which is the same food as the dome), many review complained about poor tasting food, hair in food, etc. Certainly, if they had plates of food yet to be served out in the full open near the men's room, I can only imagine what we're not seeing behind the scenes. Ended up walking back to Old Town and going to the Keg steakhouse. My wife didn't last long there, and it was not the experience we wanted, but the food was excellent. I'm hoping that the place gets a visit from health inspectors, as the issue that we saw alone had to be a code violation and nobody bothering with soap in the bathrooms, which were the only bathrooms there, so the employees use them too. If you do end up going, I imagine the domes are incredible, just maybe bring your own food! (Kidding of course, they would not allow)

Wow. Jet boating with Saute-Moutons was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Montreal. I…read morehighly recommend it, but it's not for everyone. It's thrilling, it's exhilarating, and sometimes, it's even scary. This is like a roller coaster ride on the water. And you will get completely soaked, from head to toe, over and over. If getting repeatedly hit and completely doused with large volumes of cold water is not your idea of fun, then do not go on this ride and stop reading now. However, if you're looking for a little excitement in your life and want something different to do, this definitely fits the bill. If you're concerned about safety, our guide pointed out upfront that Saute-Moutons has not had a single fatality since opening for business in 1983. What to expect is pretty simple: 1. You show up to the docks/Saute-Moutons 45 minutes prior to departure. You check in, sit through a tutorial, and review safety procedures. 2. You check your bags/belongings at a counter into a secure room. You change into clothes for the ride. 3. Clothes: Wear a swimsuit or anything you don't mind getting completely soaked. Bring a towel and a complete change of clothes, including footwear in case you decide to wear your own footwear on the boat. Saute-Moutons provides low-quality sandals with strapped-in heels that you can use, included with your ticket price. The water is cold and you will be traveling at high speeds so you will get cold. Saute-Moutons provides sweaters (fleece pullovers). Don't be afraid to layer up. You then put a jumpsuit on. Then you put a poncho on. After that, it's the life vest. Even though you have all of these layers, make no mistake, every crevasse of your body will get wet. Do not bring any loose objects with you onto the boat. You risk losing it. There are pouches on the back of each seat where you can store items such as waterproof cameras, but I don't recommend bringing much else. The water comes in at quite a force and it will easily knock off things like glasses/sunglasses and loose footwear. You might even considering bringing spare contacts because if you're not careful, the force of the water could knock the contacts off your eyeballs. 4. Once everyone is checked in, briefed, and dressed, they are loaded onto an aluminum boat. Ours had two 700 horsepower engines (1,400 horsepower total). Powerful. We made our way south down the St Lawrence River, around Nuns' Island, to the Lachine Rapids. Along the way, our guide narrated and gave us a river tour of Montreal. 5. The fun happens at the Lachine Rapids. Basically, the captain of the boat goes around in circles, in the rapids, trying to smash the front and sides of the boat into huge oncoming waves. You'll go up waves, down waves, and crash directly into them. The captain times a lot of the hits and most of them are huge, dramatic, and downright jolting. To get an idea of what I'm describing, just search YouTube for videos of Saute-Moutons. I must note the videos do not completely do what you actually feel in person justice. Sitting in the boat at rest, the water can get as high up as your belly/chest. The boat gets filled with water (it later drains out). Prepare to get water from the St Lawrence River in pretty much every orifice of your body except for, probably, those in your nether regions, which should be protected by at least two or three layers. I sat on the far right side of the boat (starboard). The first wave the captain smashed into us struck the right side of the boat first. I can only describe it as a rude awakening. It was literally like a roomful of cold water crashed into me from above and from the side. Whoosh. I got a direct hit of water into my right ear. The first hit set the tone for the rest of the ride. People were laughing hysterically, including myself, at how crazy the whole situation was and what we had gotten ourselves into. During the ride on the rapids, the guide (one of two Saute Moutons employees on board) continues to commentate. Our guide also took photos and videos of us with a GoPro. That media was available later on Saute Moutons' website. At one point, he handed us a shampoo bottle and had us pass it around. We literally washed our hair during the ride. 6. The ride lasted about an hour. We made our way back to the docks, all soaked, some cold. They have changing rooms so you can change into a new set of clothes. Consider bringing a large waterproof bag to put your wet swimsuit/clothes in. Todd "the Legend" was our guide (I think that is what he wanted us to call him). He was hilarious. It appears he's been doing this for years and multiple times per day. I'm not sure where he gets his energy from and how he's able to be "on" all the time. Not only is he informative, but he's very friendly and entertaining. He's like a comedian. Prices vary depending on season. We paid about $70 Canadian each after all was said and done. That included tax and tip. I thought it was worth it.

I got tickets for this though the GoVieuxPort.com website as part of the Nautical Getaway package…read moreand it was worth every penny (especially at a 40% discount)! I had a guest from out of town so we brought her with us for the ride. Even my 70 year old mom joined in though she was quite nervous about the experience. However, the ride was way safer and more fun than expected. We got there 45 min early and they play old promo videos to keep you entertained while you wait. You can definitely take this time to go to the bathroom/drink water and even strip down to your swimwear (whatever you're wearing on the boat). Presentation really starts at the 30 min mark. They go over the trip details and send everyone off to check their bags and get their sandals (if needed). NOTE: if you want to sit up front in the boat, you'll have to hustle to be first to check your bags and suit up and run over to the boat because those are the coveted seats!! We were slow so we ended up sitting in the last row. It's still a good experience, especially with my mom on board but I felt it was just a touch on the tamer side than what I wanted. Being this close to the Lachine rapids is such a thrill!! The pale turquoise waves look awesomely beautiful and fast! The curls that the waves made were absolutely stunning!! For me it was really a visual treat. We went on a hot day and our departure was at 5pm so the water had the whole day to warm up and was a tepid 23°C in August. When you hit a good wave, the water floods and drains out the back of the boat so after a huge wave crashed on the boat, we had water right up to our knees!!! I think we must've done 5 loops of going up and coming down the rapids and then it was a very speedy ride back to the Old Port. You'll appreciate the free hair drying portion of the ride as the wind whips your hair dry! The staff were helpful, funny, warm and personable. The owner Jack made you feel super welcomed. In fact, he asked us if it was our first time, he joked why did we wait so long to come see him! Here's my recommendations, if it's not 30°C out, you may feel a touch chilly in the 15 min speed ride to and from the rapids, especially after getting wet! Wearing a poncho keeps you warm and your hair almost dry because it comes with a hood. Even if it's your first time, try to sit at least 3 rows from the back because during the ride out, the engine is loud so you won't here anything the tour guide is saying even on the speakerphone. Also, you'll get a more immersive (literally) experience!! Be the first one out to the pier if you want front row seats. At the back, we still got totally soaked but we weren't really baptized in the river like those in the front rows. Sometimes we saw waves but they never reached the back of the boat. I brought my goggles cause I wore contacts but they fogged up a bit so I couldn't see how awesome the waves were but I put them up in between rounds. The water isn't a spray... More like a pounding so it can knock things loose. Bring a hair tie to keep your hair out of your face. Take the 5pm ride if you want a warm water experience. It was hot out but the sun wasn't overbearing. When the water filled the boat it was nice and tepid. If you can bring a waterproof GoPro to capture the waves cresting as the boat prepares to dive into the waves, it's the most epic thing ever! Alternatively you "can" bring your phone and during the ride back to the Old Port our tour guide offered to take pics and videos on people's phones. Great experience and if you're from Montreal, you gotta try it at least once!

They need more signage for sure. I walked all over trying to find it. Its actually in a small tent on the street. However that being said its not very popular and we were able to walk on (after purchasing tickets) on a Saturday for the next ride. The tour guide was OK. It was both in French and English. Overall I'm glad we did this! Magnifique! Viator Tour…read more Omg, I had the pleasure to do this Walking ‍ Food Tour w/ Dominique. She's great @ her job & has a whimsical personality. Everyone loved her bc she made us all feel Welcomed. There's a pop quiz in the beginning, hahahaha, Nah! I'm joking! She will ask, where ur from, so don't 4get, Lol We went to "The Famous Bagel shop" & a few other shops along our route. All restauranteurs were friendly to us. Most of us didn't speak Parla Vous Francais, but that was ok, bc they speak fluent English in the downtown area. Not , so much outside of downtown, if u venture out. We met @ The Famous Guillame breakfast nook & I bought a Guillame yellow tote bag which came in handy later @ other stores. I threw everything I bought; into this hefty bag. Ok, bk to the walking food tour. It was cold , but bc Dominique was so professional & organized, we didn't have time to feel cold we bounced flawlessly from restaurant to restaurant in ease. She told stories about each restaurant as we ate. U don't have time to get bored bc she keeps u moving. So, don't diddle dally, Lol I'm not sure , if you'll met @ the same spot as we did, but nonetheless; you'll like it. What's funny , i thought i was gonna meet ppl from around the world in our group, but it was mostly ppl from the U. S. A. All East coast at that, bc we don't like to stay home hahaha the world is our oyster . Far north were ppl from Maine, Alaska, Boston, NYC, & Long Island ain't that Special? Hahahaha! So, we felt @ home & the cold didn't bother us bc Montréal weather is like all those States or actually Maine , Alaska & Boston r the coldest probably colder than Montreal. If u wear the right coat or Parker jacket you'll be fine. I'd definitely, do this Tour again. What was nice is now I may do one in NYC when I return. The only difference is I'll have to hold my breath; pass all the Urine smells from the homeless on the streets; yuck Oh, I 4got, she doesn't like u talking bad about where ur from even if it's true. Lol Viator Tours is the way 2 go. I recommend, Dominique she's very attentive including everyone. Even if u come solo, bc some friends or spouses don't like to do the same things. U won't feel lonely or out of place most of us talked w/ each other& had fun. Our Tour was during the Hockey Tournament & Valentine's weekend. It was nice! Book a tour what do u have to lose?
