And then…read morethere's Master Sandwich in Turin--where Paulo, a man who speaks six languages and somehow makes each one taste like bread and glory, presides over his counter like a god in an apron. This place isn't a shop. It's a shrine. You don't wander in--you make the pilgrimage. The air smells like toasted bread and cured meats, and somewhere behind it all is Paulo, building another small miracle with his hands. He's not slapping ingredients together; he's conducting an orchestra. The bread is percussion, the cheese is strings, the meat is brass, and the sauces... they're the slow, smoky notes that stay with you long after you've walked out the door. I came to Turin for just a few days. I left with the taste of this place burned into my memory like a favorite song. Two sandwiches--different beasts entirely--and Paulo wanted my honest verdict on both. That's not ego. That's the hunger of a man who knows the craft isn't just about being great once--it's about being great every damn time. The bread shatters just enough to let the fillings take over. The flavors aren't just balanced--they're in conversation with each other. And the sauces? They haunt you, the way a great meal should. If there's a heaven for sandwiches, Paulo is there already--smiling, knife in hand, sliding something across the counter that will ruin every other sandwich you've ever known.

The owner speaks Italian (of course), French, Spanish, and English, and when he's not serving the massive number of people strolling in, he's great to talk to. The sandwiches were only €6.5. And's they were so co l good, we came back the our last day in town to have one for the road. You can tell, they love to cook and love people. I hope to come back to Torino just for these sandwiches.

The service was not very well trained and our waitress, where friendly, struggled to take our order (she kept on getting distracted while trying to write down our order so it took longer than normal) and did not really check on us throughout the meal. The pizzas come in two different "styles" (napoletana and romana) but neither was tasty or worth remembering. I chose a pizza napoletana style and the crust was good, but lacked salt and the overall pizza did not have much flavor to it.

I had a few questions since Italian is not one of my languages and the server was great at explaining everything to me in English. I ordered the veal milanese which was served with arugula and cherry tomatoes. It was delicious. No fried taste, just veal with light breadcrumb flavor. I also ate asparagus with shaved parmesan, wow, cooked in some brown butter, it was great! The location is great on a sunny day to eat outside on the terrace.

We spoke a little Italian and while the staff was not overly friendly at first, they accommodated us nonetheless and were a pleasure by the end of our meal. We had the fried calamari to start which was delicious. Perfectly fried, not too much batter. Fresh. A good start. A spritz for the wife and I had a local IPA beer, both excellent. For mains we had a mushroom risotto (excellent), spaghetti al mare (seafood with mix of clams, mussels, octopus) (very good), and tagliatelle bolognese (excellent). To pay I had to go into the kitchen, which was odd but very Italian and cute looking back. Definitely would go back.

Yet given the proximity of this restaurant to major tourist attractions and the fact that an English menu was available, I was skeptical about the quality of our meal before it arrived. We followed the recommendations of our waiter and shared a calamari, shrimp, and octopus primo to start: it did not disappoint. All of the seafood was cooked perfectly and swimming (in the best way) in a wonderful sauce of garlic and olive oil. Continuing the theme, we ordered a plate of seafood risotto and seafood spaghetti. Many restaurants in northern Italy compete for the best risotto, and though it was not the "best," this risotto was quite good. It had the correct slightly al dente consistency and the flavor was that wholesome kind that you expect to find in local Italian cuisine. The spaghetti was served with a light and savory tomato sauce and piles of seafood on top of it. Although the flavors of each dish were quite different, they were both well accompanied by the spicy olive oil - that seemed to have been prepared in-house - which the waiter brought. The oil was genuinely hot and thus a welcome deviation from the regional norm. Several other patrons ordered an apple sorbet that was hand-spooned into glasses at the table, and we did the same. It was clear from the container in which it was served that the sorbet was made in the restaurant's own kitchen. The exquisite creaminess and popping-with-apple flavor of the sorbet deserves five stars. As a final disclaimer, the waiters were all kind, but the service itself was slow. Nevertheless, this pleasant surprise of a meal was excellent and I would recommend Spirito Santo for a leisurely lunch after browsing Torino's center.

Since I was working outside of the city I drove in and Parked on a nearby street. The downtown area is very walkable so after dinner I strolled around to check out the sights. Really love this city..absolutely gorgeous. The cafe has a nice covered patio and indoor seating area. I sat on the patio and started off with some nice wine from Piedmont. I started off with a typical veal appetizer (Vitello tonnato). It was different but really good! After that I had an amazing Tajarin pasta and then some tasty fried seafood. Oh boy was I full after all that..couldn't even do dessert. The service was very nice and prompt. They spoke decent English as well and were able to recomend typical Piedmontese dishes for me.

The MEZZI PACCHERI PASTA WITH CHEESE AND PEPPER CREAM AND LEMON ZEST was a close second. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauces were creamy and delicious.
