I hired Matthew to handle my divorce through a pre paid legal plan. I felt as if I was at the bottom of his priority list. Although Matthew was a nice guy, and seemed to know what he was talking about, he is extremely hard to get in touch with and never answers the phone. It takes days sometimes weeks to get an email response..I had to redo several documents because they were time sensitive and by the time he got to them, they were outdated. read more

I retained Mr. Crider after fully disclosing the details of my case. After years of doing next to nothing he has requested to separate from me because he said I misinformed him about the State of CA. communications. I did not mislead him. He took a lot of money to fill out a few pieces of paper & once he decided he was not interested in helping me anymore (or that he had taken enough $) he left me high & dry. Don't fall for him telling you he feels there is a lot he can do to help. He told me he was sure he could get me a DNA test but was unsuccessful & once he ran across any conflict in the case he dismissed me entirely. He lies about the results he can get you. Mr. Crider helped us with a guardianship of my elderly parents. Pros: The guardianship was done correct. Cons. I reviewed all my bills and slowly his fees went up without informing me in writing as per our contract. Made him correct that, but shouldn't have had to. I asked once he used my retainer in full, to not do any more work and accumulate more charges without speaking to me first. Didn't do it. We had a court date, I flew in, spent time, money, flight, hotel, rental car, etc. just to get to court and find out that he didn't file certain standard forms, so it was postponed. When brought to his attention that he wasted my time and money not doing his job, he back pedaled and didn't even offer to deduct anything from my bill or reimburse me for his mistake. Didn't even apologized, just had, in my opinion, excuses. Also waited several (9 months) months before sending bills, even when asked for them. Then sent a bills with charges from a year ago, that he didn't put on the proper monthly bill. How do remember if he did something a year ago. Should have been on the appropriate months billing. Also had random charges called "administrative" when asked for back up on that early on, didn't get it. When i finally received the final bill and had him make all the changes, I said I would pay it once i received the corrected version of the bill. He said, oh just pay the amount we agreed upon even though the bill doesn't reflect that. I said no. Just lazy work. We are a family crisis and felt he took advantage of the situation to some degree. I hired Matthew Crider to handle my divorce case -- very easy and amicable; my ex and I were in perfect agreement about what we wanted. It seems getting divorced is a long process under the best circumstances, but because of Crider's mishandling of my case it took nearly TWO YEARS for the divorce to be finalized. Crider is personable and clearly very knowledgeable. But he dropped the ball countless times. Maybe it was because I paid him in part through legal insurance via my company, but he simply did not give adequate attention to the case. Documents were lost, names were misspelled, and most of all he was unbelievably difficult to get in touch with. If you're working with legal insurance (and even if you're not), I suggest finding a different lawyer. read more

Recently married fairly late in life (60), Matthew Crider helped us create a trust, will, and final wishes documents to ensure that our (small) estate is protected from probate and appropriately distributed, and that our final wishes would be carried out ( a big relief for our families). Matthew Crider was my attorney for a conservator case. He had facts wrong on multiple occasions, costing extra money, I felt he inadequately represented me, so much so that I went to another attorney two months before I finally fired him to get a second opinion. That attorney said that his work was so so, but that other attorney also told me that there were forms filed with incomplete info, that I should take a different path than the one I was on with Matthew, among other things. I stayed with Mathew, thinking we were almost finished, but told him that we needed to change paths. After over 8000 dollars and nowhere near resolution, Matthew suggested we just go with the courts recommendation because he didn't see how we could win. My new attorney is going back and fixing what Matthew did wrong. Matthew offered to write off my bill if I would take down a bad review from another website. When I refused his offer, he asked me if I was ready for a slander lawsuit. He's a terrible lawyer and a complete waste of good money. My new attorney is half the price. read more
