This is literally the best-curated kid's store I've ever been to. A ton of books, including a lot I hadn't seen in stores before before but that were classics or classic-adjacent. Cute clothes, cute toys, just everything you could ask for. And the layout of the shop is so good too!! Lots of great little clusters of related items. One nice bonus is like, yeah, it's not cheap kid's stuff, but you also have a million books at list price to choose from. So if you're burnt out on KPT prices, you can get great souvenirs at the same price you'd pay at home. Honestly 10/10, no notes, I would definitely come back if I was ever in the state (even if I were just going to Portland).

This girl was asked personal/illegal questions about her disability/purpose of her service dog. According to American law: A person accompanied by and engaged in the raising or training of a service dog, including a hearing, guide or assistance dog, shall have the same rights, privileges and responsibilities as those afforded to an individual with a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act, 42 U.S.C. sections 12101 et seq. Very disappointed to see establishments behaving this way and not taking the rights of humans/animals seriously. It is one of our essential destination spots! It seems new owners purchased the store during or just after COVID because its definitely different these past few years in a very good way! Before COVID, it was fun and had kind of the same stuff each year, but to be honest, it could have probably used a really good spring cleaning and more current toys. Since COVID however, the store seems anew. It is clean and bright, organized and stocked with stuff my kids know about that I have no clue about...lol But they love it and want it. After a long day doing what the adults want, it has become a goal for them to visit the store as a reward for good behavior. I have read the previous reviews and have to say that I read many reviews about everywhere I go and I don't know if I believe all that was written by the previous posters. The "specific" details and outrageousness seems sensationalistic and quite creative using much of the poster's imaginations. Their words seem sort of "Karen-ish" and quite vulture-esque. I am sure the factual details outlaying whatever event took place are less outlandish and a very good explanation is probably due. I think the interpretation of these posters might be heavily biased in whatever event took place with this girl and her dog. I am sure and sorry that there seems to have been much confusion. I only say this because each and every time my family has been in this store, it has been enjoyable and fun, very much due to the staff, the music and the overall feeling of the store. The man behind the counter and his staff have always been very sweet, respectful of everyone and professional. He has a great sense of humor and knows a lot about the town and the building. His staff seem happy and respect him. After visiting every year, I will also go on record saying that he is one of the only shopkeeps around the port that seems actually nice and engaging with his customers and also seems to genuinely listen and care. He even remembered all of us and our previous topics of conversation an entire year later! The other shopkeeps around the port seem rude, impatient and distracted...but if you come each year, you almost expect their brisk attitudes as part of the charm of the town. I say go in and experience this great store for yourself and draw your own conclusions. Five stars from this family!

What's even crazier, is that during said events, you're never pressured to buy anything. How do they make a profit? I'm not sure either. Seriously though, the place is super welcoming and patient with nerds of all types. Whether you're dipping your toes into nerd culture or want to dive in face first, they've had an answer and anecdote for nearly every geeky genre that has ever pique a nerd's interest.
