The owner is a gentleman and a scholar. This place is super clean and super chill. And the "by appointment" system works well. My son never has to wait more than 5 minutes before he is seated. My son has been coming here to this barbershop for a little over year now, and we have no need to look elsewhere. They all cut very nice. Hair cut was 40. WAY OVER PRICED for what I got. I have had far better haircuts in the past. Nothing special but a over priced fancy looking let down(store looks fancy, not my hair). And I really dislike the haircut. This haircut is no different if I asked a friend to buzz around my head. Uneven side burns. And when someone says "don't take anything off the top". Its best not to cut half the length of their hair. I wear glasses and can't really see what the barber is doing while I get a haircut. So I have to trust him for the most part to follow what I said. But this barber did not understand English so the other barbers had to translate. Clearly something got lost in translation because this is not what I wanted. Once my haircut was done and I put on my glasses on. They saw in my face I disliked the haircut. But that didn't stop them from charging me 35 for a hair cut I could get for under 10. No one even asked me how I liked it because they all knew it was a crappy haircut. I did tip my barber 5, only because I don't think the blame was only with him. The other staff members should of translated better. In the end if I went up to the corner and it was 10 bucks. I would of said to myself: "get what you pay for" and not bothered with the review. Manny is my favorite barber, hands down. His work is careful and detailed- today he used 3-4 different clippers and a straight razor on me for a killer fade. I look GOOD. Crew is walk-in only, which is fine, but because there is only 1 barber it poses a problem when you have a busy schedule and your potential customers come in 2 times in as many days (one of those occasions being 8:30 am on a Sunday, after being advised to come in that time) only to have 4 people in front of you already. So I came here to get a haircut from a place that's much closer to where I live. I tend to get my haircuts from Long Island City around the same price as this place ($35). The haircuts are more on the higher side of prices compared to your average barber shop so expect the barber to have more experience on his belt. From my experience with these higher end barbershops, things tend to go very well. Anyways, I decided to give this place a try and I kinda regret doing so. Looks: The front of store and the inside of store looks nice. When you sit on the barber chair and take a closer look, you can see that the shelfs, towels and certain areas on the wall to be dirty with hair and grime left over after a couple of days? Not sure. I do expect some hair to be here or there, but it was a bit more than usual. Barber: The barber who attended me was a European guy. When we first greeted one another, it was bleh. The guy seemed a bit lazy to me and mostly accounts as to why I'm giving this place a low review. I'm not picky and I'm very forgivable about certain situations but if you disappoint me too many times, it'll leave me sour. Anyways the greeting was bad. He was sitting, got up and walked to the chair. Most barbers I've met tend to give me a friendly greeting or hand shake the moment we met. Anyways, sat down and finally said hey. Asked me what I want and I told him what I tend to like. Asked him for his opinion and he just told me the same thing I told him. Was hoping he'll have a more out of the box thinking. Hair cut time came and he proceeded to cut my hair. Boy was that painful. The pain from getting both sides of my hair pulled lasted for quite a bit after the haircut was done. He did ask me if it hurts, I told him it did. He didn't really make any effort to fix the machine much. Just did things a bit slower. Small pains from there on out, just decided to deal with it. Haircut felt rushed. The conversation between us was small but i enjoy small talk. Nothing bad there though it was bleh. It felt like he was talking down to me as if I wasn't worthy for him. What annoyed me the most about my time with him was the gum popping. Boy was that annoying. Pop Pop Pop. Jeez, have some courtesy. Some find that irritating when done near someone ear. I don't know but the whole experience with this guy was pretty bleh. The guy next to me was much better than the one I had. This place is nice and all, but i felt like I got the short end of the stick and got the guy who just left me sour. The haircut was bleh as I told him not to cut at a certain area due to my hairline. I wanted something corrected but after going through all of this, I just wanted to get out. Payed the lady at the counter. I found it funny looking at her phone and seeing a video of herself vaping. Music was a bit on the heavy side. Overall, I had plenty of haircuts at ($35) that went lovely. But this felt more of a ($15) experience because of the pain I endured, the gum chewing, getting a weird bleh vibe from the barber and his laziness into making things better. read more

The setting is a retro environment but nothing is retro when it comes to the haircuts unless your aiming for it.
