Our child has only had excellent teachers, and our family has always thought highly of the school district. This is the first school year we have been disappointed in OMS. We can all agree that there will always be teachers that students and parents are not 100% fond of, but this year was different. The number of parents and students complaining about the English I class on a specific team is mindboggling. The students and parents talk to one another, so everyone knows the difference between one English I class and another at OMS and NGC. The parents know one English I class is more demanding and harder than the rest. We know parents complained to the district last year, and the solution was moving those students to a different team, which is why many parents decided not to go to the district this year -- no hope for change. We also know that moving students to a different team was a solution for some students again this year. While the assistant principal has been very active in trying to help with all the complaints, for which all the students and parents are thankful, the principal's lack of action and empathy is a major concern. If a concern is brought to the principal's attention, he quickly dismisses the complaint and offers no solutions or ways to help. It does not matter if 1 or 1,000 students complain about the same issue; he will not stick up for the person(s) on the other end but will always make excuses for what you are trying to bring to his attention. There is a quick answer or reason for EVERYTHING! Do not go to the principal expecting any resolution for problems because he simply does not care and will do nothing. There is no "let me look into this" and get back to you; the conversation is done! This issue extends beyond the current students at OMS. It is about the students who endured a similar experience last year and will face the same challenges after current students leave. The problem is more than just moving kids from one team to another; it is about the quality of education and the learning environment at OMS. If the district truly values the students at OMS, they must thoroughly evaluate the English I course and the teacher. The school's reputation, particularly with 8th grade, is rapidly deteriorating and will only worsen if nothing is done.

I regularly return to my former campus for…read morefootball games and other sporting events, fraternity functions, and College of Engineering volunteer opportunities. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (CHARLOTTE) is a public research university and part of the University of North Carolina System. It is classified as an R1 "Very High Research Activity" institution, reflecting its significant research output and doctoral education. In Fall 2025, CHARLOTTE enrolled over 32,000 students -- approximately 26,200 undergraduates and nearly 6,000 graduate students -- making it one of the largest and fastest-growing universities in the state. CHARLOTTE offers a broad range of academic programs across multiple disciplines, with around 79 undergraduate majors spanning arts and sciences, engineering, business, computing, and others, along with more than 150 graduate and professional programs. During the Fall 2025 season, I attended every home football game, including tailgates hosted by the SigEp NC Nu Alumni and Volunteer Corporation. I also attended a men's soccer match -- and what a season it was. The CHARLOTTE 49ers finished 8-4-4, captured the regular-season conference title, and earned the No. 1 seed in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. They advanced to the semifinals, where a dramatic nil-nil match against FIU was decided by penalty kicks, with Charlotte narrowly defeated 11-10. In December, I volunteered at the William States Lee College of Engineering Senior Design Expo, held at the James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center (SAC), which includes the 9,000-seat Dale F. Halton Arena. I've attended basketball games at Halton Arena for years, but I had no idea how impressive and versatile the rest of the facility is. I helped check in alumni, business leaders, and academic staff for lunch, which was hosted in a beautiful suite of rooms on the third floor. Meanwhile, senior engineering students displayed their projects on the main arena floor. It is an outstanding venue for academic and professional events. Greek life plays an important role at UNC CHARLOTTE, contributing to leadership development, service, and campus engagement. The university is home to a wide range of fraternities and sororities representing social, professional, and service-based organizations. These chapters are deeply involved in philanthropy, community service, and student leadership across campus. The strength and professionalism of Charlotte's Greek community reflect the university's broader emphasis on character, service, and lifelong connection referred to by the university as the "Gold Standard." Sigma Phi Epsilon has a strong alumni presence at CHARLOTTE (Sig Ep NC Nu), and we also have student Brothers actively chartering a chapter on campus. We recently held an executive workshop in one of the meeting rooms in the Student Union. Sig Ep's Balanced Man program is unique to Greek organizations and will benefit the university and student Brothers. Like many of Charlotte's academic, athletic, and student facilities, the Student Union is impressive -- modern, well-designed, and comparable to professional conference centers I've experienced throughout my career. It was perfect for the Sig Ep Executive Workshop. UNC CHARLOTTE continues to grow and achieve excellence, just as the City of Charlotte itself has emerged as a premier urban and economic center. The university proudly brands itself as "Charlotte's University," and that identity truly fits. The William States Lee College of Engineering, in particular, has gained national visibility, climbing steadily in U.S. News & World Report rankings. Its graduate programs in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering rank among the top 100 nationwide. The college is also home to one of the nation's most highly regarded motorsports engineering programs -- a perfect fit for the Charlotte region. A truly great university in a great city!

Probably one of the most disturbing things you could ever hear in your life…read more I am trying to donate to Kidney UNC Chapel Hill - after calling them multiple times and finally getting a response from the transplant department from a lady named Teresa. She said she would start the process.. A week later I called and said what is going on. I haven't heard back from you. There's probably people that need a kidney and she told me the lady that does all the paperwork for insurance is on vacation. It might be a little while.. I asked her how can you tell the people that are waiting for a kidney, we have a donor however the person who can save your life is on vacation.. I guess this is how people in North Carolina are... So sad .

It is so hard for me to write about this school. My youngest child was traumatized here and has not…read morehealed. We were only at Covenant Day School briefly a couple of years ago. It has taken time to reveal the extent of the damage to his heart. We put a lot of hope in this being the perfect school for our 4 kids. Great leadership - my favorite celebrity pastor on the Board. The best theology. Challenging academics. Strong community. We could not find a school like this anywhere else. What could go wrong? The kids. The kids here know exactly how to appear as Christians and give right answers and charm adults to win the coveted "Best Christian" awards. But they step on each other to elevate themselves rather than lending a hand to lift each other up. It is a very competitive place in sports and academics and cut-throat socially. It is NOT a wholesome place. These kids are on their phones absorbing and propagating the exact same messages you are hoping to pay for a Christian school to get away from. There are family names at this school and their kids could get away with murder and they know it. If your child is one of their hapless victims, the school would just tell you to pursue Matthew 18 and say reassuringly, "Sin is everywhere." The bullying among the kids is the worst I have ever seen or heard of. It absolutely totally broke our 5th grader and he was only there for a few months. He had been very sheltered his whole life at a small Christian private school, so when he got to this school, the boys in his grade quickly took advantage of that for their own entertainment and mocked, degraded and brutalized him until he believed them - that he was indeed a gay a** pu***. This actually may be the most expensive private school you ever send your kid to, because the messages he absorbed here about himself and the therapy he needs now are exorbitant...there is no end in sight and we are praying for God to do a miracle in his life. But the kids would not be empowered to be the way they are without the adults at this school enabling them. All the adults smile and pretend like everything is fine because they are horrified at the idea of confronting one another or offending any of the "important families." They are all cowardly people-pleasing addicts who care more about maintaining their own spot-in-the-pecking-order than putting that at risk to protect and defend a child who desperately needs a hero. I can't not write a review because I sure wish we'd been warned before entrusting this place with my children.

Union County schools are probably some of the best in the area. They do a decent job of balancing class sizes and recruiting good teaching talent. I also like the fact that all the Porter Ridge schools (elementary,middle and high) are all grouped together locally in the same 'campus' or general area.
