I was alone, and didn't have anyone greet me or come ask me my name. I came early and even hung around at the end to see if there were any circles of people my age or just women or people in general to talk to, and no one made eye contact or tried to find out who I was so I felt pretty bummed. But also it was just a first visit so I guess I can't make a full judgement unless I were to give it a few chances. But overall, it's worth checking out.

He gave a lot of Greek language understanding, which I appreciated. The needs of improvement. Once I got into the auditorium, it was well less than half full when music started. That is perhaps a peeve of mine. As a member, you know when it starts - be ready, be prepared. I'm a pretty outgoing guy, but no one spoke to me once in the building - No One. I sat down behind some folks, aside of others - No One spoke at all. My cologne isnt so bad as to cause no one to sit close or even speak. It was Palm Sunday, Jesus' Triumphal Entry of Christ to Jerusalem. The first song had absolutely NO "umph" or excitement to kick off a worship service - none, and it didn't get much better from there. I'd say less than half the worshipers were singing at all. We have an amazing savior to praise - to relish in worship. Not the case on my visit here. The pastor, though sticking with the text - John 5 - and giving the Greek words - gave almost no illustrations, stories or application. I'm happy about your recent trip to the holy land, but please tell me how it helps here in N Atl. Perhaps as a former pastor, having gone to conferences all over the country, I'm a tough critic. As i continue my search i doubt i will be back. I am looking for exciting spirit filled worship, contagious Christianity. The church is very welcoming and safe for children of all ages which is a nice plus for parents. I appreciate how this church is very involved in the lives of the youth in this community which is very respectable. There are many rooms for classes of all kinds here and the church is well set up. Their main sanctuary is spacious and well lit for worship and meetings. Their is an outdoor play area which is perfect for children and picnics which is also a nice plus. I think this church is a blessing to the community and all that attend here. 5 yelp stars and a bravo for all that they do for the city. Thank you.

My children went to Duluth First UMC preschool before there was a kindergarten, and it was awesome…read morethen! Now my grandson goes there and loves it!! He hates the days he doesn't got to school! When he was in the toddler class, he had Miss Tammy and Miss Ashley and they were so fabulous it gave him a great start! Then he had Miss Donna and Miss Carrie for the twos. What a great year that was!!! They planned so many great activities that there was no time to be bored!! Loads of age appropriate crafts and games! Miss Trish and Miss Laurie for the threes, continued greatness!! Now Miss Connie and Miss Jodie for the fours. Another awesome year!! This group of students is mostly very active boys, and all the teachers have risen to the challenge of dealing with loads of energy, and have managed to get them ready for kindergarten, and we're all still smiling and laughing!! I recently visited St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Church and had a wonderful experience…read more I had called the church's number listed on Assembly of Canonical Bishops on the Friday before I visited, and the priest, Fr Bohdan, answered. I had asked him if they offered any weekday services here, and he said only on Sundays, which is understandable. He told me to come visit and pray with them that following Sunday. From the moment I arrived, Fr. Bohdan was incredibly welcoming and made me feel right at home as a visitor. St Andrew's itself has a strong Ukrainian heritage and many members are immigrants or have close ties to Ukraine, which gave the community a very authentic and vibrant feel. The church building is absolutely beautiful. The iconography, architecture, and reverent atmosphere immediately draw your attention toward worship. The Divine Liturgy was both solemn and uplifting, with beautiful chanting throughout the service. One thing I especially appreciated as an English-speaking visitor was Fr. Bohdan's effort to make the service accessible. While much of the liturgy was prayed in Ukrainian, he also served significant portions in English, including many of the prayers led by the clergy, the Scripture readings, and even the sermon. He preached the homily in both Ukrainian and English so that everyone present could follow along, which was a thoughtful gesture that made me feel truly welcomed, especially on the Sunday of the Paralytic, which is when I had attended. If you are curious about Orthodox Christianity, don't be intimidated by the fact that this is a Ukrainian parish. The community was warm and hospitable, and there was a genuine effort to include visitors. Whether you are a baptized Orthodox Christian, an inquirer into the faith, or simply interested in experiencing a traditional Christian service, St. Andrew's is well worth a visit.

Adult services are held at 9:15 am, 11:15 am, and 4:30 pm. The church is large, and on most Sundays, the 11:15 service has the largest attendance. It is best to get there early to give yourself time to find a seat and take a look around without feeling rushed. There are parking volunteers who will help you find easy parking. When you enter the building there are a number of guest services volunteers who can help you find the environments that you need to visit. If you are a first time guest, don't forget to stop by The Gallery after the service to learn more about the church. If you would like a smaller crowd, try attending the 4:30 service for a more intimate feel. The music is like attending a free concert every Sunday - nice perk! The messages are often timely, relevant and applicable for most people, whether they consider themselves Christian or not. All are truly welcome - there is no insider/outsider culture here. There are great environments for children and young people: Waumba Land is the environment for pre-K and younger children. In this environment, children are in small classrooms with structured activities during the service. The older pre-K children have their own large group environment in which they sing and dance and hear an engaging Bible story by talented volunteer worship leaders who keep the kids laughing and engaged. For the younger kids, the musicians visit their classrooms for singing and dancing, and the volunteers in the classrooms engage the kids in the Bible story. They kids typically make a craft that they can take home to remember what they learned, and trust me - they will be singing those catchy songs for days! My child currently attends Waumba Land, so that is the environment about which I am most familiar. Upstreet is the environment for elementary age children, and Transit is the environment for middle school students. Inside Out is for students in high school. Upstreet is available at all services. Transit is available in the mornings, and Inside Out meets in the evenings. All of the environments provide for large group and small group learning. Adults are encouraged to join community groups, which enables them to also experience a small group environment. The church believes that life is better in circles, rather than rows, and encourages people to connect to a small group in their area of Gwinnett. There are groups for singles and married couples, and they typically meet weekly throughout the county. You can connect to a community group online or through an event called Grouplink. My husband and I have been members of several groups throughout the years, and we highly recommend the experience. It is a great way to grow in your relationship with other people, with your community, and with God. Gwinnett Church has a hastag of its own: #ForGwinnett. That's because Gwinnett Church wants to be known for what it is for, and it is - you guessed it - For Gwinnett! There are many service opportunities available to support the good work being done throughout the county and beyond to help and serve those around us. Andy Stanley, the founder, had decided to create a church for people who don't like to go to church. His vision has become reality and he has opened multiple churches across Atlanta. It's incredible to see the amount of support and people that flood in the doors to hear the sermons every week and all the volunteers who gave up their time to make everything run as smoothly as possible from parking in the lot to leaving. They have a fantastic children's area and you are grouped according to what grade level you are. It's so terrific and my daughter actually enjoys going. They always do little activities that help teach them about how to be a Christian. My friend introduced me to this church a couple weeks ago and I was so happy to not have to park a mile away and I was able to find a seat relatively easy. The sermons literally move me. They are so fantastic and come from the heart. Listening to people's experiences helps me remember to be thankful for what I have and want to help others. If you miss a sermon, they can be found online because they record them. It's so wonderful to have that option because sometimes you might not be able to make it for whatever reason. They are opening up another sermon time for the month of August because they are growing. The additional service will be held at 12:45 PM. If you are a new member, you can stop by the new member area and get a really nice mug and get introduced to some of the staff there. They also have some complimentary bites for breakfast. Today they were passing out free donuts! I have to admit I really miss listening to Andy Stanley but the sermons I have heard here are also very good. And I can always catch Andy online!

St. James is a very loving parish that made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in. I…read moreinitially visited for a Wednesday evening Vespers service because I knew their deacon through my grandparents, who had once been his neighbors, and I had wanted to visit the parish for some time. Elaine greeted me when I first arrived, and several other parishioners also introduced themselves and made an effort to welcome me. I later returned for Divine Liturgy and had an equally positive experience. Fr. Steven, Deacon Anthony, and the entire parish community were warm, friendly, and happy to answer questions. St. James is clearly bursting at the seams with new members, which says a great deal about the health and welcoming spirit of the parish. The services are beautiful and reverent, the preaching is thoughtful, and there is a genuine sense of community among the parishioners. Whether you are already Orthodox, interested in learning more about the Orthodox Christian faith, or simply visiting, St. James is a wonderful parish to experience.
