I get there towards the end of the day sometimes and see some of their cleaning regime and it's beyond thorough, and I don't even see what goes on beyond the scenes! They take the children on wonderful field trips! Just last week they baked cookies and brought them to the local fire department down the street. I have seen them leave for some of the field trips and the adult/teacher to child ratio is perfect. They seem to be right on par with every code I have researched and go above and beyond to make it a fun, safe, and clean learning environment for our kiddos! It is so nerve racking making the right choice of where to send our children for schools, and I believe wholeheartedly that A+ is the right decision for my family and many others! It is the most affordable daycare I have ever encountered and their hours are from 7:30-5:30. I went to this non-profit center and food bank Wednesday, April 3, 2019. This building is located…read morenext to a school. They have small parking a lot (no handicapped spaces, by the way), which was full because one car was not parked correctly and took up two spaces. I saw someone else access the place by pulling by the center using the school parking, but there is a sign it is only for school personnel during the day, so I was weary of that. Instead, I parked on the street, which was a little difficult, since there are like literally 10 feet piles of snow still in South Lake Tahoe, even though it was April! WTF? I used to live in the snow-belt of upstate New York, and by April there was only a little bit of snow. When I went in, the office was empty, as they were having a meeting in the backroom. A lower-ranking worker, who was outside bringing in the pallets of food, was nice, telling me to go to the back room, and also apologizing for blocking the entry way. He also sneaked me extra bread at the end. The other employee who came out of the meeting was super friendly, and showed me what to do. It is very informal there. There was no line. You just walk in and you can take one pre-made bag of commodities, and whatever bread and other items they have on the shelf by the kitchen. There are no forms or verifications required. Their website said they only had USDA commodities (food) beginning on the second Friday of the month until they run out, but I guess they must have changed that. In the office there were all kinds of brochures about other services offered in the community. This location also offers English language classes, parenting classes, and a clothing bank, and runs a used book store called The Bookworks, at the mall in South Lake Tahoe. It's incredible that the college allowed such an awesome course to be installed on their premises. The college itself also looks like a great place to further your education, who wouldn't want to be here looking out at such a wonderful landscape. If your looking for a great hike and a course that will test every shot this is the one to put on your list. Way to go Sierra College!

Now that I finally got my associate's degree (through a 1 1/2 year petition process entirely…read moreinstigated by me, now 22 credits shy of my B.A. and just short of threatening a human protest with my hands shackled to Gov. Jerry Brown's doorknob at the Capitol) I can write my review. Pros: -Like all colleges in the California Community College system, you cannot beat the financial deal here. Something like $42 a credit. -There are great teachers here who genuinely care about their students and coursework/intellectual integrity. This is nothing short of a miracle considering 98% of the instructors are underpaid, part-time employees with NO benefits. -It is a great place to have a "soft start" if you've been out of school for a while. -If you are in the Tahoe basin, can't beat the commute. Right off I-80. -Super friendly administrative support at the front desk. Those ladies run the place and my hats off to them. -Teachers are often also practitioners in their field. -Relaxed vibe. Very relaxed. -$30 parking permit. Seriously. Cons: -Only 10% of community college students are able to transfer to a BA degree-granting program. -Some of your classmates will be on the 10-year plan, if you get my drift, where CC enrollment is a lifestyle choice (hence the recent kibosh of unlimited credits on financial aid w/ out penalty). -Some of your classmates may have been recently released from a mental hospital, halfway house, or related venue. Proceed with caution. -You may have to swallow hard and receive workshop critiques from entitled high school students who have no compunction saying, "Your writing sucks." -Some of your classmates who are older and have kids, medical appointments, work, etc. (Read: EXCUSES) will expect you to be their "note bitch." DON'T DO IT! -Don't expect stellar academic counseling. I became my own counselor, transfer coordinator, and captain of my own ship after almost capsizing from the non-advice I received at Sierra College and will end up with 27 credits beyond the minimum needed for my BA degree program. -Building is freezing cold in winter and has NO hot water in sinks and bathrooms get filthy by the end of the day since they put maintenance staff on limited hours. To conclude, if you don't mind slogging through some mire and bootstrapping your way to an education, have at it. As they say, nothing is free, so don't be fooled by the low prices. You will pay for your education here, but for all my bitching I'm grateful for SC and what I learned here, in and out of the classroom.
