When choosing an acting instructor in Jacksonville, I knew I wanted to find someone who had real experience and was currently a working actor themselves. I found a few places in town that "taught" acting classes, but most of the people who were teaching the classes either weren't actual actors or hadn't been in the business in decades and were now "retired". I was so happy to find Creative Veins because their instructors are actual working professional actors. I knew after my first phone call that they would be able to help me achieve my acting goals which included getting signed with a reputable agency. My instructor was Keary who is extremely knowledgeable, perceptive, and attentive to each and every student. He's passionate about acting and he clearly communicates his insights. This was by far the greatest classes I decided to go to. I took Keary's 'intro to Acting' class, I didn't go because I want to be famous one day, I went because I need a confidence booster. And let me tell you that it definitely was, I was able to finally get comfortable in front of 6+ people, I didn't feel (as) nervous as I did when I first walked in. In one exercise he had us do he ONLY talked to me, told me how I could visibly relax just by closing my eyes and feeling were my tension laid dormant. It was as if i were the only one there, no one was staring at me in that moment, I didn't feel as scared, and was able to finish the exercise with ease. But most of all, there was no sugar coating, he didn't say it would be easy, because it's not. He has acting experience, he should know. But why would anything you want in life be easy? If you want a career in acting with person who gets it, who's funny and charismatic, and most of all: relatable I highly suggest taking an acting class with Keary. Screenwriting for Film, Television, and the Web Class...It's crazy, but this class has changed my life. Not just in the way that I write, but in the way that I listen, the way I communicate, the way I consume media now, the way I appreciate some media more and some media less now. It's made me observe every day life a lot differently and I feel more "in-tune" with how connected everything and everyone is. More than anything though, this class has humbled me. It's made me realize how inept I was at screenwriting. I'm not suddenly perfect at it by any means, but I'm a world and a half better than I was. It's also made me realize how dangerous it is to be so obliviously ignorant OR how wasteful it is to listen to the advice of those who are just as unskilled. I feel 10,000 % more confident in my writing; (especially in my current screenplay), than I ever have about any body of writing I've ever written. I'm sad this class will be ending soon as every class has had so many eureka moments for me, but I'm incredibly excited for how much I've grown so far. 5 classes down and just 3 to go. What a blast! I reached out to Rebecca to schedule a private improv class as a team-building event for my real-estate brokerage. We had a mix of experience levels and an even greater mix of anxiety-levels about doing improv. Rebecca planned the perfect event for us! I recently went to a craft night here. We made some cool stuff and I got to drink wine. The instructor was super pretty and very helpful. It was a great girl night out! I can't wait to do another craft night with my mom. I think she would really dig this place. Plus, I saw they have acting classes. Maybe I will muster up some courage and take a class or two!
