Thanks to Ron W., I was able to attend a sneak peak preview of Raleigh's newest VIP space, The…read moreVoodoo Room. The extra secret, private room is located upstairs in The Big Easy, down a back hallway through an ominous door labeled "staff only". This isn't a space that you can just walk into (now that you know where it's located), rather it's a private venue space, charging $300/6 hours on Fridays and Saturdays with a $500 minimum bar tab and $100/6 hours Sunday-Thursday with a $300 minimum bar tab. The small space includes a New Orleans voodoo theme complete with voodoo dolls and bare breasted fortune tellers (in photos). Your party is invited to enjoy the velvet couches and hairs artfully placed around the room and has access to a private bar (and bartender). I love the back wall, with photo windows viewing Salisbury Street and a huge wooden bench seat. Rebecca and her husband Steve, the owners of The Big Easy, created this space to throw a rocking New Years Eve party, and they're inviting locals to use it during the year. Rebecca hired a fortune teller for our VIP night, but options are practically unlimited for what you want to bring in (bachelorette party strippers?!) The room is pricy to rent, but the intention is to get in a "classier" group of people that will keep the space up (however, there's definitely room for a dance party in the room, think old Bee Hive tightness). The best part: that VIP feeling as you are personally led up to the room by a manager, it was VERY speakeasy and secretive!

Best example right here: - Not once did I have to get up from my couples table and ask for anything. They made sure others came to us while we enjoyed our meals. Throughout the entire process she was able to provide extremely valuable advice and expertise. She had a mastery of the wedding profession beyond what we knew was possible. We learned quickly how much we didn't know about the planning process, but Kaisey always had the masterful ability to guide us down the right path. She was incredibly organized and easy to get ahold of. The support she provided to both the wedding and us as a couple was phenomenal. We truly valued her role in the wedding not just as a talented professional, but as a overall great person - when the wedding was all wrapped up we both agreed that working with Kaisey was something we'd miss. We can honestly say that the wedding planning process was fun and with minimal stress, largely thanks to Kaisey. Couldn't have done it without her - eternally grateful!

A Southern Soiree - Beautiful setup for wedding reception!

Spark Notes Version - I HIGHLY recommend working with A Southern Soiree! They will make your…read morewedding day magical. Extended Version: I was married at The Carolina Inn in May and I had the absolute privilege of working with Gina from A Southern Soiree. When you book a ceremony at The Carolina Inn, they include day-of coordination with one of the area wedding planning companies as a part of the package (amazing deal - everyone should get married at The Carolina Inn). Having seen A Southern Soiree in TONS of blogs and websites, I asked right away if I could work with them for my wedding. I ended up working with Gina, and based on my contract with the venue, assumed that we would just meet a couple of times to cover the basics and that Gina would primarily just be there to support the actual wedding day. I could not have been more wrong, in all the right ways! Gina was an absolute dream to work with and well exceeded my expectations throughout the wedding planning vision. She helped so much throughout the planning process. She was also professional, quick to respond to emails, had great ideas for my wedding day, and has such a great personality - I had so much fun at all of our meetings! When the day of the rehearsal dinner came, I had everything packed in my car and drove over to the venue, starting to feel overwhelmed with pre-wedding stress. As soon as I parked my car at the valet, Gina and her assistant were there coordinating getting my car unloaded. I gave Gina a rundown on what I had in all the boxes and where it needed to go, and she took over from there. There was no stressing out about setting out favors, making sure programs made it to the ceremony, etc. because Gina had it 100% taken care of. At the rehearsal dinner I was feeling overwhelmed, and Gina's assistant stood there with a glass of water for me the whole time just in case I needed it. They wanted to do whatever they could to make sure they day was stress free and that everything was wonderful. Gina and her assistant were like magical wedding planning fairies the day of the wedding making sure that everything was executed flawlessly. Before the wedding, people told me to mentally prepare myself for "something" going wrong, but when the wedding day came...nothing went wrong. Literally, everything was perfect, and I'm sure it was because I was so fortunate to have A Southern Soiree there to cover all the details. Even my father-in-law the day after the wedding could NOT stop talking about how amazing Gina and her assistant were. He was still in a state of disbelief over how they were able to pull everything off so perfectly. You can't go wrong choosing them as your event planning company and I would definitely recommend them to all of my friends and family.

Alyssa's support was incredible- from addressing emails promptly to arranging an extra in-person meeting. My daughter Nanny and I had complete peace of mind with her overseeing everything!! Alyssa excelled in coordinating with vendors and creating a timeline for my daughter's special day!

Great service. Great location. Great accommodations…read more We stayed here while in town for the Raleigh Relays. I grew up near Raleigh but this North Hills is much different from my childhood. This location has such a cool vibe; it's located in the middle of some of the cutest walkable upscale shopping. Think Rolex, Restoration Hardware and the like. Our room was clean and well appointed, even with a tv in the bathroom mirror. The closet is one of the largest I've had in a hotel room. Despite our room overlooking the walkable shopping area, it was super quiet. Parking is super easy with a free underground deck. Staff was friendly at every encounter. Definitely check this spot out!

I have to give this a 1 star due to the receipt of a bogus $350 smoking fee which effectively doubled my price of staying here for a single night. To address this from the start, I am not a smoker and have never made a habit of doing such. I raised a claim with the hotel and they refused to accept my explanation and would only offer a partial refund. I didn't even learn of the charge until a week later when I requested the bill after reviewing my credit card statement. The hotel staff did not mention it at the time of check out. When I challenged the charge, I was given a "report" from an automated sensor that stated the particulate matter in the room was greater than the accepted limits at the time of the report. It immediately ruled out beauty products such as hairspray or other items and does not acknowledge the possibility of false positives. My report was quoted as 9-10:30pm; during said time both my girlfriend and I showered (leaving a ton of steam in the air) and she did her hair with a hair dryer / other hair & texturing sprays. She also did her nails at that time. From my research it's clear that there are numerous instances of these leading to false positives with these sensors. It's a shame that the hotel uses them to prey on guests for additional revenue. I appreciate the intent of these sensors as I would not enjoy my room smelling like smoke, but, in the event that these are activated I would strongly encourage a human confirmation to avoid situations where guests are being charged for things they did not do.
