The staff are happy to make suggestions for the right frame for your work, and the results are always highly professional: beautiful bespoke frames with carefully selected backing paper and hanging kit included. I like the fact that the staff are not afraid to make suggestions: We came in with a limited edition print we wanted to put in a black frame and the guys in store gently suggested that this would completely dominate and ruin the artwork. They recommended a pale frame we never would have chosen ourselves. but I'm very glad the did as the finished product is beautiful and it was immediately obvious that a dark frame would have ruined the look of the print. FS&M is not cheap: we paid £70 for framing a smallish print, but it's definitely worth it for the quality of the service and the finished product. Also for the convenience of the location!

This place had reasonably priced items by smaller artists that made it very approachable. I bought a piece for like 400, which in the scheme of something hanging on your walls for decades isn't too bad. I visited a bunch of other galleries that were stuffy and had very expensive stuff. This gallery has a lot of things that regular, "non-art", people would buy and hang on their wall. I researched a few of the artists in there and they all seemed like fairly new artists that were getting their feet wet, so it feels good to support them.

On the other hand, that's why I'm in a good position to review them. They haven't let me down yet! They are decent framers (working with acid-free materials as standard) and relatively inexpensive, especially for the location. Framing does cost money, but if you want to display something special then sticking it in a clip frame is not the best idea you'll ever have. Give them as much time as you can, especially if you want to order unusual mouldings or want oversize glass or mountboard or special UV-resistant glass. If the presentation is taking place later that afternoon it might be possible to pull a rabbit out of a hat (I've known it done), but you shouldn't count on it.

Mr Isaac is an antiquarian print specialist, selling a variety of fine and decorative prints at various different price points to suit most budgets. However he also has a framing workshop and it is this that I am reviewing here. I went to David with a very tricky framing project-I have an antique European carpet fragment that I wanted framed in such a way that the knotting on the back could still be seen without the need to unframe it. As a result, my frame has UV filter glazing back and front and the frame had to be built up to take the extra weight and to cope with the thickness of the piece of carpet itself. After some head-scratching, the firm took on the challenge and completed the job to a very high standard in just a few weeks. The price was also surprisingly reasonable-an 8th of the price of one quote I received from another firm and still around 30% less than most others. I had had the chance to see some of the firm's frames in the past as they exhibit their prints at several London antiques fairs and had been impressed with them. They had also come highly recommended by a furniture dealer who uses them for any framing jobs he has. I'm extremely glad I chose Isaac and Ede for this job and will ask them for any further framing I may require in the future as they were a joy to deal with.
