Our experience with CCSM has been the best in all respects. If you are looking for reasonable fees, CCSM checks this box. It is a non-profit that was established in the 70s in response to cuts to music education budget in our local public schools. Their main mission is to make music education accessible to as many people in the community as possible. Hence, their fees are very reasonable and much lower than music schools of similar caliber in the area. Since we're talking caliber, I have to say the school has an excellent faculty from a variety of musical fields. Many teachers have graduated from top music programs, performed with top orchestras, and/or produced generations of excellent musicians who are either professional musicians or just regular folk who really love music and continue to support the arts. My boys love their teachers, and they have different teachers even though they learn the same instruments. Since the chemistry between each student/teacher pair is important, you can trial with different teachers and figure out which teacher fits your child best. As for facilities/infrastructure, you won't find state of the art, fancy facilities (see point about it being a non-profit), but they are very good facilities and instruments, many of the pianos have been generously donated by families or the community. There are two formal recital halls, with a Steinway grand (paid for by donations), that allow students to have the opportunity to perform on an almost monthly basis. This helps them build confidence, develop performance skills and share their musical growth with their friends and family. CCSM actively contributes to the community through a scholarship fund that pays for students in financial difficulty to have lessons. There are a few big fundraisers for the scholarship fund held each year and all students are invited (never any pressure) to help raise funds for this, either through actual donations or performing at fundraising events. This helps the kids look beyond their own needs to the needs of others. Finally, since it is a community-based organization, there's a warm familial atmosphere at the school. There's no snooty arrogance you might get at other music schools. Everyone here is really friendly and supportive. This is an amazing school, it's no wonder that students travel all the way from Riverside or Orange Counties to have lessons here! If you're thinking about music lessons, you have to consider CCSM. I'm not sure how many studio rooms they have...I think about 25 or so, and they all have pianos. They have two performance halls, and have student recitals every month (usually several recitals - hour long recitals- every month). They have pros teaching every instrument. They want to celebrate your child (birthday, accomplishment, award, etc.) which is nice. As for the value, I think we're getting our time and money's worth. I think no matter where you go, time and money will be spent, but it's the quality and attentiveness that matters and so far I'm seeing that for my son.

She's been playing for about five years and plays viola in her high school's competitive Symphony. Because she also plays travel sports, finding time for lessons at a traditional music school can be difficult. We were so happy to find this studio locally in the Diamond Bar/Pomona area. Monica, the owner, is friendly and welcoming, and Mr. Chen, her viola teacher, is knowledgeable, encouraging, and supportive. He's been great at helping her continue developing her technique and confidence while preparing for the demands of Symphony. The studio is upstairs in a busy shopping center, and sometimes parking is an issue. Every time we come in there seem to be kids coming and going--which I take as a great sign! We've had a positive experience and definitely recommend them.

Five years ago, almost by chance, my son auditioned for a musical at Seed School of the Arts. That…read moreone audition became the beginning of a journey we never expected. It was here that he discovered his love for musical theater, and more importantly, met wonderful teachers and mentors like Mr. C and Principal Tong. Looking back after five years, I can truly say that Seed has played a very important part in his growth. What makes Seed special to me is that musical theater here is not simply taught in a classroom. The children learn by actually creating and performing show after show--rehearsing week after week, working with a cast, taking on different characters, and gradually learning how to sing, act, perform, communicate, and become more confident on stage. Writing this review today, I was actually surprised when I started thinking about how many productions he has already been part of. He began with a very small ensemble role in Desperate Princesses, then moved on to Showdown, a larger supporting role in Fairy Tale Network, and eventually a leading role in Little Shop of Horrors. Last year, with the training and support he received from Seed, he competed at MTCA and won first place nationally in monologue. When I look back at that little boy who walked into his first audition five years ago and compare him with the performer he is today, I feel incredibly grateful. None of these steps happened overnight. They came from years of rehearsals, performances, encouragement, opportunities, and teachers who believed in him and gave him room to grow. I have so many photos and memories from these past five years that it is impossible to share them all here. As a parent, I am simply very thankful that we happened to find Seed when we did. If your child loves singing, dancing, acting, or is simply curious about being on stage, I would highly recommend giving Seed a try. For our family, that first audition opened a door we never imagined, and we will always be grateful for where it has led.

The studio is always clean and quiet. Occasionally the parking spaces are full, so we end up parking on the opposite street, but usually we are able to find a spot in-front. Prices are very reasonable, and it is so easy to communicate with both Jody (studio owner) as well as Vanessa. The studio offers lessons for several instruments and voice lessons as well, but my daughter has only taken piano so far. My daughter loves her weekly lessons here and her teacher as well!

Amidst an extensive collection of lutes, balalaikas, sitars, and other instruments hanging from the wall are face masks from around the world. Tucked slightly away are all sorts of mysterious instruments in their cases. Here's where you can find a harmonium, and it wouldn't surprise me if there was a theremin in their inventory.
