I was the best man in my friend's wedding over the weekend and let me tell you, I wish I could go back! It was so fantastic that my girlfriend said she wants to hire the same wedding planner... Create Events. Throughout the day the team was on point. Two of the ladies checked on us before photos began. They also got us on the limo bus to where the ceremony was being held and made sure the bridal party was very well taken care of. Meanwhile one of the coordinators stayed with the bride and groom to do their photos and make sure everything went according to plan. When we arrived at the Thursday Club (ceremony location) there were two coordinators taking care of all the setup. It looked amazing and when the bride walked into the ceremony site she actually cried and said, "Oh my God! It's so beautiful!" I know this was something she and the groom were worried about because at the rehearsal they mentioned that they wanted all the red draping covered in white. Both the bride and groom were so happy to see how it turned out! I really thought Monica and her team couldn't out do the ceremony but then we got to the reception and wow! BEST PARTY EVER! The reception area was really decked out! They had a sushi station (which I ate a lot of), an Italian station and a meat carving station. All the food was awesome, the setup of everything looked great and the timing was perfect. We did our entrance, had dinner and got the party started. The bride and groom were so happy with everything. I don't think I've ever heard so many people say, "What an amazing wedding!" I attend a wedding for a friend and in March of 2016 and it was literally the best wedding I've ever been to. [ Wedding was 9/28/18 ]... a tad late on this review. But Monica, Brittany, and the rest of Create Events are honestly such great wedding planners- I would hire them any time! I only used them as 'day-of' coordinators, but they went far and beyond just the day-of. I planned my wedding from Chicago (wedding was in Carlsbad, CA), so it was quite stressful but I had most of my vendors already chosen. I just knew I needed help the day of because we had 250 guests and two locations. Monica and Brittany met with me two different times when I traveled to Carlsbad to meet with our venues/florists etc. Each time they were very professional and always on top of everything. Between then, I asked for advice on certain wedding decor and ideas and Monica responded very quickly and gave great advice. The day of our wedding Brittany was very efficient and so calm while directing everyone! She had 3 others with her due to our large group and multiple locations (ceremony and reception were at different venues). Our bridesmaids and groomsmen actually commented how great they were directing everyone and making sure everything ran smoothly. And trust me... My large family is crazy and loud. Monica was the day of coordinator for us in Del Mar and she and her team did an amazing job on our wedding. She was there the day before to prep, came early the day of with her two assistants, and made sure our wedding was executed to perfection. We are so very glad that Monica was our day-of. She made sure everything was set up, and when it wasn't, she did it or had it finished. Everything went better than expected and it was one of the best days of our life. Monica and her team set up our cake table, put up decorations, made sure everything was on time, and helped with clearing of tables and anything else we needed. At the last minute the venue manager didn't allow us to put wine bottles on the tables which we had planned long beforehand, so Monica and her assistants adjusted and handled it quickly. Weddings are stressful. I get it. That's why you hire a day of coordinator so things go really smoothly. And they did. Kind of. Ill start off with TL/DR for you guys to get the picture: She messed up the money box (!!!), the photo frame, and was kinda distant/moody with the bridal party. My BFF got married at a beautiful ceremony in Poway a few weeks ago. Now being part of the bridal party, I'm privy to most inner workings of the ceremony/ reception because I'm heavily involved in the background so I know what's up. I've also been a bridesmaid 5 times and been to countless weddings so I know the good, the bad, the everything. The day of coordinator is supposed to allow you to be stress free the day of your wedding and really just enjoy the moment with your family and friends. I think I actually felt MORE frazzled with Monica as our coordinator than I had if I had just done it myself. To add insult to injury, my bride was a very hands on bride so she had typed out a very detailed, thorough list of instructions for the coordinator to basically follow along. Wedding rehearsal was fine. She basically told us how to walk down an aisle. I've been walking for many years so that was cool and easy. Day of the wedding was where it all went to shit. The ceremony itself was fine. Cocktail hour starts, where is this chick? I have no idea I'm running around looking for her because no one knows do we sign this photo book? No it looks like that's a photo book we don't actually write on that do we? No we write on the glass photo frame thing. What? WHERE? That makes no sense when you clean it the ink will rub off. I dunno man. So basically half the wedding guests didn't sign anything and the memento that she was supposed to be able to keep forever looks wack. Everyone's confused and the bride and groom are off taking pictures so obviously people come up to the bridal party and we just look stupid. But this was supposed to be the way the bride and groom can look back and see exactly who was at the wedding. What if the bride loses her memory like in the Notebook and this photo frame was the only thing that can bring her back. THEN SHE AINT NEVER COMING BACK cause no one signed it. Alright its time for the wedding reception. We are supposed to walk in and dance. Ok cool, we ask the coordinators do we stand up there and dance until the bride and groom are announced or do we sit down? "Its whatever you want" Ok........... SO.... WHAT? Some of us will sit and some of us will dance like idiots with no coordination because we are not being instructed? I basically was like ok dudes and dudettes we stay out on the floor dancing until the bride and groom come out. And she's totally flippant like whatever "ok do it that way". THANKS THE HOUSE PLANT COULD ALSO HAVE GIVEN ME THESE INSTRUCTIONS. After dinner I hear the money box is missing. What the hell? I eventually found out the wedding coordinator doesn't know where it is and has been asking other people where it is. But she was in charge of it!!! Turns out one the best man realized no one knew where it was so he checked a side room (UNLOCKED), found the box and stowed it away in his car. Dude if I knew that this would've been taken so lightly and left behind unlocked doors I would've stolen that cash myself. I fully believe that Monica is a kind and caring individual who may have just been having an off day. I think this December wedding was the last of the year so she may have been a little bit over it or tired because she was a little distant with the bridal party, maybe we were annoying who knows. Your profession is to be around annoying girls and stressed out brides though so I expected a little bit more. The bride put a lot of time and effort into the day of instruction document and it seemed that the coordinator didn't really follow the instructions or refer to it, cause if she had I think some of these items could've been rectified. I forgave the flippant attitude about the wedding party dance because I think that can be chalked up to personal preference, but the photo frame and money box fiasco unfortunately brought my rating down to three stars. I think Monica would've been amazing if you're more of a hands off bride and you want someone to guide you through the day, BUT if you're putting in a lot of time and effort and actually writing things down to the last detail, it might cause you more frustration. read more

2.5 stars We got married on Dec 10th, 2016 and our wedding was the last one of the year for Monica. We met Monica and decided to book with her based on her pricing and her familiarity with our venue. We are a very organized, hands-on couple and did a lot of DIY decor. We sent Monica our timeline and everything she asked us to send a week before to ensure everything was feasible based on her experience and got a few suggestions from her. But that was included in the contract to help assist with the timeline if needed, so that wasn't out of the ordinary. Monica was strictly our day of-coordinator, aside from answering a few questions, we really didn't bother her much. We only needed a day-of coordinator so ultimately we were fine with that. We pretty much planned our own wedding from start to finish. We met with Monica a second time for a final details with our venue coordinator. Our venue coordinator had all of our notes, as well as our color coded timeline. However, Monica didn't know that it was color coded b/c her printer ran out of ink. Things happen...we get it. But if she had actually looked over our notes briefly before printing, she would know that all that colored portions of pertinent info were missing in her notes. It just never seemed like she was all in or very prepared. We felt uneasy, but figured we sent it the night before and maybe she was too busy to see it, so we gave her the benefit of the doubt. However, on rehearsal day, she continued to be surprised at things, making us wonder how closely she looked at our notes. A few days before our wedding, a couple vendors emailed us asking for our timeline and we emailed Monica to ask her about it. Monica did not respond to her emails very often, even with it being the week of our wedding. We had to personally text her to ask as it got closer to our wedding date. The overall communication was poor and it kind of left us a tad bit unsettled heading into the final days. During cocktail hour, she was instructing our guests and officiant to put things away, when they are supposed to be enjoying themselves at our wedding. Our guests are not her staff and should not be taking care of those kind of things when she has an assistant with her. On top of it all, she had no idea where our card box was during the reception. We made sure during our final meeting with Monica to let her know that our card box needed to be in the locked room provided by our venue, because there was going to be money for our honeymoon fund in that box. Not only was the room unlocked, someone went into the room during our reception and took the box without any problems! Luckily everything turned out okay b/c that someone was our best man. But imagine, if it didn't turn out okay. What if it was some one else? What then? As someone who should be overseeing everything, Monica should have known where things were at all times, especially something THAT important. The storage room had all of our personal belongings in there and if it couldn't be locked, we should've been notified. It's disappointing to hear that during the reception, Monica had to frantically go around asking where the box was located. Our wedding party/family were not happy with how she approached them and accused people of taking it because it was gone under her watch. Perhaps, our biggest disappointment with Monica/her assistant was in regards to our "guest book" photo frame. Instead of having a traditional guestbook, we had a photo frame with a small picture of us in the middle and a surrounding blank area for guests to sign. As with most picture frames, the glass pane for the frame was included, which we left on to keep the signing area clean during transport/storage. We specifically wrote in our notes for Monica/her assistant to take the glass off for guests to sign. However, the glass was not removed and some of our guests ended up signing on the glass, and unfortunately, to clean/wipe down the frame may smear/erase their messages to us now. Monica did offer to scan the glass on matted paper after, however, only a hand full of our guests signed our photo frame. This was very disappointing for us b/c mementos like these are things we can't have back or have a do-over for. Some things are really just given one chance to have. Overall, Monica will keep you on track based on time. She did have everything cleaned up and ready to go by night's end. But if you are looking for someone who is organized, energetic and involved, then you may want to look elsewhere. Based on the other Yelp reviews we read prior to our wedding, we were excited to meet with Monica and work with Create Events. However, the great reviews led us to expect a bit more than what we received. The lack of attention-to-detail and absence of enthusiasm made it difficult to review her any higher than 2.5 stars. I would give Create Events more than 5 stars if that was an option. Monica and her team are so amazing and we are so thankful for them. I will be honest I was a little skeptical of the idea of hiring a wedding coordinator, but hiring Monica and her team was the best decision we could have made. Hiring Monica was the best thing I could have done for our wedding. First - I was against hiring a coordinator. My husband was the one that wanted one. I figured, I could do everything on my own with the help of friends. If anyone thinks that a coordinator isn't beneficial - THINK AGAIN! Hiring Monica made me, my friends and family be able to enjoy our big day. We hired her for "Day Of" but we were able to meet with her multiple times (of course, if she doesn't know what's going on, how can she do her job?) Initial Meeting: She came prepared with her paperwork of standard questions to ask, got to know us. I loved the fact that she came prepared with questions. Walk Through: She actually followed up with me to schedule a walk through. Setting up a time with her was very easy. Also, she had experience working with our venue (Del Mar Powerhouse), which is why we chose her. The venue is very... let's say, picky, about what you can do so the fact that she knew their rules was really really nice. Final Meeting: She even met with us in person about a week and a half before our big day to go over our timeline, all setup, vendors, etc. Rehersal: She conducted our rehearsal the day before and grabbed all our decor, since we couldn't store them at the venue. Day Of: She was onsite promptly at 12 PM to set EVERYTHING up. I'm a pretty detailed person but it looked fabulous (she wouldn't even let me peek until it was all ready). She stayed and made sure everything was cleaned up so I got my full deposit back from the venue. Would I hire Monica again? Definitely. Without her, I probably would've gone bridezilla or literally broke down in tears. Just a piece of advice to people out there: She can't read your mind so COMMUNICATE with her! The more descriptive you are, the better she will be able to execute your day. I made all my documents on GoogleDocs and shared them with her so she would always have immediate access to my documents as I'm updating them (also reduces the need to email and going, "did I send that to her?"). read more

I hired Monica for the Day of Coordinator for 10/13/12. As plans began to be final I would include her on them. I asked for her opinion about the line up and she gave me her input. I sent her emails as to what was going to happen . Anything going on I made sure she knew it. After the ceremony the guests were to be escorted off the lawn and up to the 3rd floor to the cocktail hour. Monica or her 2 assistants were no where to be found. My guests were standing there not really knowing what to do. I the Mother of the Bride, had to start walking them across the lawn. Luckily one of the hotel ushers were there to continue it. My daughter had off site pictures after the ceremony/ before reception time. They were to be back by 6:15, Monica or one of her (2) assistants should have been there at curb side to usher them to holding area to make the grand entrance. My daughter had to call me and ask what do we do. She was put in charge to do the DIY of a candy station. It took her assistants 2 1/2 hrs to complete it. They never replenished the See's candy as instructed. That was in the instructions. I also witnessed myself, her assistant eating the candy. I was told by others who were working the wedding during the set up time, that Monica and her 2 assistants were in a little room all talking about classes and college stuff. I also didn't have a gift table at the wedding ceremony , Monica should have communicated that to the hotel events coordinator and had one put up. Instead the water station was a make shift gift table. My daughter asked her to help put her train up for her gown before the grand entrance and Monica said she didn't know how to do it or even pin a boutonniere to one of the groomsmen. My husband and I decided to do a destination wedding, and if you have been through it, you probably understand how chaotic, stressful, and overwhelming it can be (I guess all weddings can be that way huh? :)). With that being said, it was the BEST decision. San Diego is amazing of course. I honestly don't know what I would have done without Monica. I did my research online for coordinators (was told it would be helpful), and landed on Monica with Create Events. From her first response back to me I knew she was the perfect fit. Monica was extremely genuine, sweet, attentive, involved, super responsive, energetic, and all around wonderful! Monica helped plan and coordinate a rather large gathering for my family and friends back in December of 2012. She helped me select the venue, followed through with vendors and even supervised setup of the decor. Monica oversaw the entire event, making sure food was served promptly, drinks were always flowing, and cleanup was done on time. I'm so happy we hired Monica and Create Events! It was one of our best wedding planning decisions. My husband and I got married April in Cabo San Lucas. We booked the venue sight unseen and were very nervous about planning a wedding in another country. Monica took care of everything! We met with her 4-5 times and discussed our vision, budget, ideas and the day/weekends schedule. If it was not for her we would not have done a first look which I'm so happy we did! Once we got to Cabo I was able to completely relax. Monica and Morgan worked with the resort to set everything up and did a walk through of the site. We were able to spend the time with our friends and family who had traveled verses worrying about the little things. They definitely went the extra mile. Morgan brought me a drink during our first look and I loved it so much that when the bartenders at the wedding didn't know how to make it she went and asked the upstairs bar tender what was in the drink so the downstairs bar tenders could make it for me all night. Monica from Create Events was our amazing day-of coordinator for our June wedding and hiring her was one of the best decisions we made. As part of our contract with our wedding venue, my husband and I had to hire a professional coordinator. Initially, we weren't pleased about additional expenses and finding another vendor. However, once we met Monica and saw how professional and friendly she was and learned how much she did, we knew we had to hire her. Monica described her role as more of month-of coordination, but she did even more than that. She was available for all my questions and any advice I needed leading up to the wedding. She also helped me get organized and develop day-of timelines and make sure I had every detail covered. Throughout it all she was my advocate with vendors and the location, making sure what we wanted was most important. The day of the wedding, Monica and her team were on site hours early to make sure everything was in order and to be of help in any way they could. I felt such relief knowing she was there. She handled every problem and details I messed up on, like when my heel broke or when I forgot to include children's meals for the reception. Monica and her team solved every issue quickly and quietly, with smiles on their faces. I had nothing to worry about. At the end of the evening they had all my DIY elements, the cake, and gifts/cards packed up to help family members that were taking them. Monica's team really went above and beyond. On top of all their amazing work, Create Events' prices are so competitive; hiring her was really the easiest decision we made during wedding planning. I respect and appreciate Monica's philosophy that she wants to be every couple to be able to afford coordination services. Not only does Monica work incredibly hard, she makes it look effortless, she is always smiling, she is professional, and she is friendly and kind. I had the pleasure of having Monica help me plan my entire wedding. She is really the best.. she is easy to talk to and listened and completely nailed our vision of our wedding. She was so supportive during the entire wedding planning process. Her passion and knowledge of the industry really shows. Although Monica and her staff specialize in Wedding Coordination, she did me a big favor by planning, organizing and throwing a wonderful surprise party for my husband's 60th birthday. There were about 100 people in attendance and thanks to Monica it went off without a hitch. I overheard one man say it was the most fun he had had in years. Young and old alike loved the chocolate fountains and dessert table which followed a smorgasbord of Mediterranean cuisine. It may have cost me a little, but it was worth every penny. I hired Monica for my graduation party. Everything i wanted, she made it happen. She was able to get everything right down to the little details.
