My goal for this year has been to try new things and have new experiences. And as someone who loves…read moreto create, work with my hands, get messy and fill my home with things that I made, a potter course was a no brainer! Blue Skies Pottery has been on my radar for a while. I no longer live in Hoboken, but still really wanted to try my hand at their wheel course! For 2 hours, you get to done an apron, and learn from one of their very kind and patient instructors. We first made a bowl but mine somehow did not make it to the actual bowl stage. I was encouraged by the intructor saying that going too far is what pottery is all about. Why play it safe when you can just mush it back into a big ball and start over. So try 2 was for a vase! Sure it's short and swirly and imperfect but I personally love it and it now holds all of my make up brushes proudly. Their beginners course is $75 for a two hour lesson. You can choose to fire your piece or pieces for an additional $15 a piece. So really the wonky vase you think looks silly is actually a $90 ceramic masterpiece... You pick them up a month later and marvel at the fact that this was just a blob of clay 30 days prior. I'm now soooo excited to try one of the 6 week courses and get better and better, but really just mostly love the idea of working with my hands uninterrupted each week. Thanks for a wonderful experience!!

Each class holds a maximum of 8 people (please don't be late). This was always something I wanted to do ever since I saw the film, Ghost. Sue makes it a point to know everyone's name from the start but she gave me a special one...mom, because I came with my 21 year old son. Lol. She kept the entire class laughing throughout by getting to know each of us personally. I really enjoyed the group we were with. I already knew that I wanted to make a bowl so I can display it in my home. I wound up with a little dish instead. On my 2nd attempt I was like okay, you got this, you can make a bowl. I must have put too much pressure on the clay while going too fast on the pedal. Sue shouts out...look at mom go, she made another good looking plate. I guess I can use it as a jewelry dish. The pieces need time to dry. Choose the colors you want on the wall and they will glaze it for you. You pick up the finished pieces in 4 weeks. Please check out their website for prices. This was an introduction session but they also have weekly classes. I thought it was so sweet of Sue to ask if I had fun. I replied...I sure did because YOU made it fun for all of us!!! I highly recommend this activity if you've never done it before. I found it very therapeutic. You will also have the softest skin ever after you wash the clay off your hands. I had a blast. This place is located in Hoboken, NJ, hometown of Frank Sinatra. It's full of tree lined streets, cafes, and amazing restaurants. So come make a day out of it.

I'm…read moremore than happy that I chose to go here, as it has provided me access to great internship programs and allowed me to quickly build my resumé. Of course Stevens isn't perfect, no school is. If you're wasting your time looking for perfection, you'll never be satisfied. As I have found from my time at Stevens, I have been provided a good amount of knowledge and skills to build upon based on what I want to do as a career. In terms of location, it is hard to beat. Well, at least if you like an urban campus. New York City is right across the river, and public transportation is very easy to use. For a couple bucks, you can hop onto the 126 bus to Port Authority and hang out in Times Square, or catch the NY Waterway Ferry to Pier 76 from 14th Street. In the end, it's all about what you make of it. Yes, I'm paying student loans. No, it's not crippling debt, and I am not worried about finding a well-paying job that will help me take care of the expenses. Many of the classes are challenging, but for an engineering curriculum, I expected nothing less. Overall, it's been a great experience, and I'm extremely happy with my decision to go here.

Our instructor guided us through the process with care and attention while also really allowing room for our own personalization and hands-on creating. So often, with other companies that offer creative classes, you wind up standing and watching more than you are actually participating, and the end result doesn't feel like something you yourself made or even quite understand the process behind making. Other times, you wind up with a product that may have been fun to make, but it's not something you will ever use or display. Happy to say that this was definitely NOT the case for A Glass Act -- you get to make your creation, every step of the way, from start to finish; and the instructors are very generous with their extensive knowledge of glassworks. I look forward to taking more classes (there's so many awesome ones listed to choose from!) and would highly recommend A Glass Act to others - it's a fun and fascinating process with truly beautiful results that you'll be happy to display (in your home and on Instagram!)

This is a wonderful place to have a date night!…read more My date and I learned how to paint alongside other people who signed up for the class. There were only 10 participants (including ourselves), so it was not too rowdy at all. You're expected to bring your own wine and snacks for the event because it will last up to four hours (6-9pm) but time goes by quickly when you're having fun. There will be music playing while you paint and you're free to talk, so don't stress about this being taking super seriously. The painting is taken step-by-step and the instructor was a very patient young woman. She encouraged us to ask questions and request help if needed. She who knew her craft, but never looked down on us if we weren't painting exactly to the original material. After all, art is subjective. By the end of the event, you'll be able to take your painting home so it's encouraged to leave your signature. I felt incredibly proud of my work and it's a great conversation topic to go on about for the rest of the night. I would come back over and over again, as long as I have a partner with me. It's more fun with someone you know.

Local event resources were hyping up an evening comedy show at a new spot called "The Collective"…read more The tickets for the show were available in various packages, some of which included a "custom hat", which was very mysterious to us. Hats seemed like an odd counterpart to a night of humor, but we also had not heard of The Collective and were not sure what type of business it was. Thanks to a sidewalk placard, we were able to locate the business on the second floor of a smaller, remodeled building. The sign called out the hat crafting, which was particularly helpful in catching our eyes, though we were still not sure what to find when we made our way upstairs. My companion was recovering from surgery and was happy to see that the modernized building included a small elevator so that he could avoid the narrow staircase. When we arrived at The Collective, we were created by incredibly nice folks! We were introduced to the owners, Gary and Grace, a young couple that created one of the most unique and creative spaces in town! Gary took us on a tour, where we saw an art gallery with pieces from various local artists, a room selling vintage rock t-shirts and records, a custom hat designing studio (trucker's and cowboy-ish styles), a candle-making facility and display area, and much more. The team was really optimizing their location by offering a variety of after-hours classes and events, all of which were BYOB. The first of which was the comedy performance, which was held in the main room, where a variety of mismatched seating and a small stage were located. The troupe was led by Matt, while the show was MCed by Grace (a different woman than the owner). The two of them were outstanding, as was every other comedian in the hour and half-long show. We had been to a good number of similar local acts and been very let down by the lack of laughter generated. However, that show was had us cackling out loud! We truly enjoyed our time at The Collective and all of the friendly people that we met there; we could not have asked for a better evening! I hope to attend some of their future events as well.

I was pleasantly surprised because those messages were very relevant for me. Then we moved to the warm and beautiful room for the Reiki session. You feel at peace as soon as you walk in. She used crystals, music, chimes, and aromatherapy. My emotional and physical reaction throughout the session felt like a breakthrough. Since our session, I feel unblocked.
