have known Craig since 1980 when he just started his practice. I was trying to get an appointment with a well known Chiropractor in the area but he was simply too busy to accept new patients. He suggested that I call his chiropractor, Craig O'Connell, so I did and he has never disappointed me. My husband was going to Yale for a back injury injury that seemed to be getting worse despite painful injections and pills. They said his only option was surgery that would require a year to recover from and restrict his to lifting no more that 25 lbs. He was only 24! I did some research and decided to try a Chiropractor. Craig examined him, took x-rays and said he couldn't repair the damage but he thought he could treat the symptoms, relieve his pain and help him manage the injury. He said he wanted to see him 3 times a week for 8 weeks, but, in 6 visits he would know if he could help him. Craig is a therapeutic Chiropractor, he doesn't do hard adjustments unless you ask and he puts emphasis on Prevention. How the way you move and stand can affect you, especially in jobs that require standing, lifting and repetitive motions. After 4 weeks he reduced the visits to twice a week, by the end of 6 weeks Mark was a different person with no pain and almost full range of motion. He went back for "touchups" whenever he felt that he overdid it but this was light years away from what he expected and we are both grateful. I have had some back stress and a painful, traumatic injury from work but Craig was always there when I called for help and ergonomic suggestions to help me at work. He is a kind, generous man who is dedicated to his practice and his patients. I honestly cannot say enough good things about him and I dread his retirement which I hope is a long way off. read more

Dr. O'Connell has helped me recover from many injuries and put me back to work several times. He has been one of the few medical professionals to earn my complete trust. I have been seeing him as needed since 1987. I am currently seeing him for an injury acquired at a Physical Therapy facility. They injured my back treating my foot. Their remedial treatment of my back was not consistent nor especially helpful so I ended up back with Dr. O'Connell. One part of his comprehensive and personal treatment is taking the time to acquaint himself with his patients and learn the particulars about them that may affect their treatment and recovery. You will never find yourself hooked up to a machine and left alone staring at the ceiling. He will change your life if you let him and teach you how to remain healthy and avoid future visits. One look at the photo Bethany chose to represent herself to the world pretty much tells me what I need to know about her. I have always rather appreciated the fact that unlike most doctors, Dr. O'Connell would not expect me to come up with the cash before being treated or even seated every time I needed to see him, but would bill me for what my insurance did not cover, and basically allow me to pay at my convenience. There is good reason the Doctor does not need to advertise his business. read more

Quack! I sought this guy out because he went to Palmer- if you're from where I am you know what I'm talking about. If not, don't worry about it because he was not worth seeking out! I went here time and again within the span of a few months for some acute back pain I was experiencing. On numerous occasions I offered to pay my copay, and each time I got the same response, "we'll bill your insurance, and if there's a balance we'll send you a bill." They said they had no way of knowing my charges until they submitted to my insurance. I continued on with my appointments, which consisted mostly of Dr. O'Connell going on and on about the wonders of chiropractics (dude, you don't have to sell me, I'm here, aren't I?) and telling me stories about his life. My back pain subsided, and I must say it's still better. However, I encountered another kind of pain when I received a bill for over $300! I wrote them a letter and received one back saying that it's my plan and they have to charge me the copays and I should know, blah, blah, blah. I knew I had a copay, that's why I kept trying to pay it! I called my insurance and they said that he was under no obligation to charge the copay for each and every visit and that this is common ploy. Long story short, I paid more going to this guy with insurance than I have going to other DCs with no insurance. read more

I don't think this review is very fair. Of course a chiropractor is going to charge you a copay for each visit; if you went to a general practitioner twice in one year, you'd better be sure he'd charge you a copay twice. Anyone who has been through any kind of therapy knows that. I was a patient of Dr. O'Connell's several years ago after a car accident; he was always respectful, kind and...most of all...he helped me through an episode of some pretty intense back pain. There should be more like him. read more

Dr. O'Connell has been my chiropractor for years. He does only what I need, and he does it well. When he was away once, I went to another chiropractor, who wanted to have me come in multiple times for weeks, when I needed a simple adjustment, such as Dr. O'connell does. Another time, when he was away, I went to a new local doctor, who was fine, but her treatment did not have the same lasting effect that Dr. O'Connell's did. So I was happy when Dr. O'Connell returned. Finally, I just want to say that when my back was very bad, after hurting it on a backyard project, and it was taking longer than usual to heal, Dr. O'Connell came up with an unusual treatment, having me walk in my local Y pool, and that eventually got me back to the running I love. He is a man of great integrity. read more

The woman who complained about the payment method is unkind. That was an issue with the insurance set-up, not the provider of the service. I've found Dr. O'Connell to be helpful in easing my back problem, but also in giving advice on how to better live my life - ways of walking, sitting, using the computer, etc. He uses stories to help explain and demonstrate his advice. His service seems to be good value. read more

Please disregard Bethany's review, she obviously doesn't understand how insurance works. Dr. O'Connell helped me get back to normal during a time when my back /sciatic pain was so bad I could barely walk. He's an honest guy who not only assisted in recovering, but he taught me some things I can do to prevent re-injury. He is one of the only chiropractors I've seen that did not try to sell me on continuous visits, he try's to get you better and get you out. As far as costs, I paid roughly $400 for 10-12 visits with a high deductible plan, which is nothing compared to most places. read more

Dr. O'Connell is a very skillful and experienced practitioner whose methods are scientifically based, and highly successful. His approach is primarily to correct everyday postural bad habits that predispose to chronic back and neck problems. He also performs treatments designed to relieve muscle spasm and improve range of motion. He does not engage in risky manipulations. I experienced dramatic improvement of a serious problem within one month. But more important was the longer-term prevention of recurrence from removing the offending behaviors. I am a medical professional and highly recommend Dr. O'Connell's approach, which I believe is likely to have better outcome than surgery for the vast majority of patients. read more

I rarely write reviews but I was prompted to write this one because of the unfavorable and unfair one posted earlier. I have gone to Dr. O'Connell off and on for the past 10 years and he is definitely NOT a quack. He is a terrific educator and always helps me understand how to sit, stand, and walk differently to reduce the stress and strain on my back and neck. What impresses me most is that he is committed to getting you well and out of his care within a relatively short period of time (I had one chiropractor in Houston schedule me for 1 year of appointments when I first came in). Dr. O'Connell is respectful and keeps up to date in his field. I have referred two friends and both of them were impressed as well. As someone who has gone to several different chiropractors over the years, he is the most caring and competent one I have had. Dr. O'Connell has no control over the co-pay which is determined by your insurance coverage. All it takes is a phone call to your insurance company to find out what your benefits are regarding chiropractic care. read more
